Ford wouldn't tow it (it was 25 miles and they only tow 20 miles). Ford wouldn't give a rental till they looked at it and they couldn't look at it for 2 months. Then after they rebuilt the transmission it only lasted another month before it needed to get rebuilt again. And then I went through the same issues as before. Thankfully I had aaa. Then when I got the car back again it only lasted 2 days before needing a new transmission pump as it leaked everywhere. Once again ford wouldn't look at it for another 2 months. I just bought a new Ford Ranger with the 2.3 engine. I hope it doesn't happen to me. I once bought a BMW M3 and they had a problem with the connecting rod bearings. The engines were self destructing without warning. The M3 forum I joined had some stories. Long story short they replaced the bearings and gave me an 100,000 mile warrantee on the engine. I ran the S*hit out of the engine and it never broke. I feel your pain. They should give you a new engine. It sounds like they will have to after seeing that spark plug. Good Luck my friend.

My son-in-law bought a First Edition and was super happy to buy his first new truck. Having passed on a Jeep Rubicon, he thought all was well. At about 4200 miles and in the middle of nowhere in Colorado, his Bronco went dead at 60mph. Luckily, he was able to get to the side of the road for safety. And yep, it wouldn't start. Unfortunately for him, it took 4hrs for a tow. After Ford diagnosed, it dropped a valve and destroyed internals in the engine. Ford took 3 days for someone to come out and take a look at it. They offered an engine replacement or buy back. He loved the truck so much that he went with the engine, but like you, fought for full replacement to include turbo system. It only has 5300 miles on it now, so its hard to tell if all is well. These 2.7s in Broncos are problematic whereas the F150 and FWD applications like the Lincoln Nautilus/Ford Edge Sport are pretty good.

Perfect shape, no rust, had aftermarket exhaust and rims. Real nice truck, had complete service record from the one owner who had all the work done at the dealer I got it from. Didn't even last 3 years with on 30k miles put on it, while continuing the routine service like clock work at the SAME DEALER. Whole truck started shakin one night, ford replaced all the plugs, and wires, did oil change for 1700. Drove fine for a few weeks and then did it again. Ford wanted to replace the oil sending unit, oil pump and suggested the cam phasers at the tune of 3k. Slept on it for the weekend and then got a call from the Ford master tech as he called himself, and just said to replace the engine. Ford has tons of complaints on those lariat engines. Replaced the engine for 8500, and to really top it off my new engine was a REDESIGN to avoid the issues the OG with the cam phasers apparently failing to get properly lubricated.

Ford had put fuel injection on the previous version of a V6, and the fuel injection caused heat that burnt out the rings. It sat in the dealership with the motor in the box (bed) for six months while Ford said they were developing new piston rings for the engines. It was a piece of junk, forever after it was rebuilt. It also used to freeze, and not start in the cold. It would have to be towed, and warmed up in a garage overnight to start. Best wishes, and I hope you get treated better than I did, in the 1980's.

The engine was built in July 2021 (exact build day was #214 of 365 days - as shown on sticker on motor's oil fill tube). So far, the affected motors were built on days 133-281 in 2021. The defective parts are bad valves, apparently a bad batch of valves were installed on these Bronco motors causing complete failure. Problem is you don't know when or if it will happen! I just pray it's not a trend that we are seeing here. WE received our 2 dr. Wildtrack with the 2.7, 3 weeks ago , we've managed to put 564 mile on the clock, with that said, it sit's as we text at the purchasing dealer waiting to be diagnosed. An engine warning light came on after a day trip to the local mountains, nothing serious, just some easy trail driving. Visiting the FORD PASS app on my phone, it says we have a fuel injector issue with the #2 & 3 cylinders. The app advises we do not aggressively throttle or high speed drive until it gets to a service facility. The service rep at the dealer said this will be the "Guiney" pig, as its the first Bronco in for service of any kind at this dealer. We were provided with a loaner, free of charge until we get our Bronco back. That was 2 days ago and we've yet to hear from the dealer. Not off to a "reliable vehicle" start and like I said, we're praying this is not a trend.

Generally when an engine fails at a very low mileage, Ford simply replaces the entire engine turbos and all if there's any evidence the turbos were affected. They often don't even require us to disassemble it any further than required to find the problem. If the problem is common, they'll make the necessary changes in the new engine. The 2.7 has been used in F150s for several years and is normally a great engine. Not sure what changed in the Bronco application.

After I started researching, I realized that it wasn't just one engine. Most of their engines have some sort of major failure point. The bronco is an offroading vehicle, it should be reliable. I visited the Ford dealer today. They want 30k more for a bronco than the wrangler competition. To even call the bronco a wrangler competitor is wrong. The bronco cannot offroad because of its weak tire rods and placement of the rear shocks. The jeep is a true off road vehicle, comes ready to conquer trails out of the box. The only off roading you're going to be doing with the bronco is on dirt roads with little to no rocks. I'm convinced that every single bronco you see on the road is owned by a sucker. You'd have to be completely out of your mind to want a bronco (that has a cheap and lose interior, not to mention inferior offroad components) when the jeep wrangler is available for 30k less.

I worked during my apprenticeship time at a location that "use to make" Ford valves and Ford front end parts. Like I say, Ford " use to make " these parts at this location. In fact, Ford made valves at this particular plant for better part of 80 years. Then this production line was moved. I recall the change over from this Old System of Valve Making and it took a fair number of employees on the Assembly Line crafting Valves. Then a New really fancy Production Machine was brought in. It was rather incredible watching this new machine punch out valve after valve, pretty close to perfect. But here is the thing, the New Valve Train Line cut the work place employees down 75% on this line. There was pretty much a "Loader Person" and Line Operator, and "Unloader Tow Motor Driver" taking product away. It was fast, high precision, and less workers. But then came the MBA Management Teams whom transferred this Production Line elsewhere. I rarely saw on the New Line, bad product coming off through Quality Control Management checking. So a super high quality product with minimal worker cost was transferred out of this location to WHERE? Now I'm hearing about BAD VALVES? Are you kidding me? Ford had the best of the best product coming off this Valve Line Assembly location, now this?

This is most likely an issue that occurred during the heat treating process. I cut gears at a Ford plant, and can say with almost 100% certainty that whatever company cooked the valves something went wrong. We cook half our gears in house, and half are done out. Every batch is checked with randomly selected parts for quality before the outside company sends them to us, or we assemble them. The majority of the issues come from the supplying company. Traceability is very difficult when it comes from suppliers. They probably do these in hundreds if not thousands of batches. Sounds like some one screwed up during this process, and didn't want to scrap however many valves they just manufactured. Remember these are small companies that are contracted by Ford to do the work on the cheap. Likely an isolated incident.
