We're a two-man film crew and this year we've done a couple dozen client videos ranging from 15 second TV spots to 40 minute documentary-style videos. Having the right camera for any job is difficult but we've found this kit to be very effective for our use. Hopefully some of our fujifilm video kit will help you narrow down what you do and don't need for your own purposes and help you get the shots you need for your clients. Two Fujifilm X-T3 rigs and a small versatile X-T4 setup. Smallrig cages allow for modularity and with accessories from Atomos, Lanpart, Sennheiser, Rode, Beachtek, IndiProTools, Kondor Blue and many more, these setups can be perfectly customized for our needs during any shoot.

Hi guys, great video, thank you. Looks like I will be spending some time looking at the brands you mention. Love the "A"cam setup especially how you have set the follow focus wheel and the handle. You get a subscribe for this one! I’m in the process of setting up my first XT-4 so I appreciate the different setups. Two quick questions: your favorite lens if you could have just one, and do you generally shoot F-Log out to your Ninja on your A/B cams? Looking at those snowy shoots, I would imagine that recovery of the highs and lows would benefit from F-Log.

great questions. If I could have any one lens it'd be a 24-105 or fujifilm's 16-80mm. Having one lens that can shoot such a big range of focal lengths is a very handy feature for our run-and-gun style of shooting. Of course, given the freedom to have multiple lenses, I love the sigma 18-35 since it's a f/1.8 lens and then having a 70-200 f/2.8 lens for interview setups is really nice. But If I had to pick one, it would be the versatility of those standard zoom lenses like 24-105mm. Also, yes, we do shoto f-log always. For some time we committed to Eterna when shooting in controlled environments but we have since fully committed to f-log so all our footage is the same format.

@@MaineMountainMedia thanks for the response. I ended up getting the 16-55 2.8 as my starting lens for video. I also have the Fringer adaptor which will allow me to use all of my Nikon lenses. I still don't have my XT-4 as it seems to be on backorder everywhere, but I'm looking forward to using it. I have a full rig built with no camera in it, and it's very sad. I also have the DJI RS 2 Pro gimbal, so I'm really just going nuts waiting for the XT-4! I appreciate that you're shooting all the same format - consistency makes things easier. Thanks!

Amazing video and really nice setup! I'm thinking to moving from Sony A6400 to this camera but I have seen a lot of wobbling using IBIS that really affects the footage. What is your opinion regarding IBIS? Thanks for your sharing!

IBIS is a tool that certainly has it's problems, but in general I find it to be very helpful, and when it's wobbling too much, I can always turn off ibis. It's very helpful when I'm standing still, and less helpful if I'm moving.

Really like the shoulder rig. It looks nice and compact compared to the build you showed in earlier videos. How balanced is it on your shoulder?

Thanks! It is certainly a little more condensed than the old rig setup. If I'm honest, it's not as balanced as I'd like it to be, but moving the battery back even farther makes it feel a little clumsy. I do have a 150Wh battery brick that's heavier than the 98 in this video. The bigger battery does help balance it a bit better.

Nice video! and now I am starting to set-up my fujifilm xt3 rig, now using 14mm, 16-55/2.8 and coming 50-140. using 14/2.8 for gimbal now, it’s good to upgrade to xt4? or waiting xt5/xh2? anyway my handle was quite stable😊

I think the X-T4 is a great upgrade if you like to shoot small setups without a gimbal. Since you have the gimbal, i don't think you need to spend the money to upgrade...but of course, new cameras are always fun so don't let me talk you out of it!

I think if you need to shoot stills, the XT4 is worth it just for the mode switch lever. If I didn't shoot any photos, I would go with the XT3, especially since it's so cheap during sales.

Im so glad other people are pairing Sigma ART 18-35, with X-T3! :D Very impressive rigs! May I have some question? Do the Atomos worth the extra budget? With its cost, If I would sell my X-T3 and save the money from the Atomos, I would have the budget for a BMPCC4K body. And my other question is, what portrait/telephoto lens do you recommend in pair of the Sigma ART 18-35mm? Thank you in advance, and I already subscribed! :)

Great questions! I have to say the Atomos is a fantastic tool and if you plan to budget for a quality monitor (5 or 7inch) you'd do well to choose the Ninja rather than a SmallHD or something similar. That being said, the ProRes codec coming from the Atomos does help our workflow because we edit in Final Cut, but I do not think the final result is drastically improved with the Ninja. The files straight out of the camera is still 10bit and looks amazing. Having never shot with the Blackmagic, I can't say what it'd be like to use, but generally speaking, I don't think you'd gain much quality or workflow selling fuji and choosing BMPCC. In terms of lenses, we shoot a lot of canon glass because we already owned it from years of wedding photo, so we shoot the 24-105 a lot, or the canon 70-200 f/2.8 if we need the reach. Having shot with the sigma 50-100 f/1.8 once or twice, I loved that lens and I would probably buy that, but since we already own the canon glass, it's hard to justify. I also shoot my fujifilm 50-140mm very often! I can rely on the autofocus with that lens, but I hate manually focusing so if I plan to pull focus manually, it's canon glass all the way. Stoked for you guys that you got to tell Saddleback's reopening story!! Such a great mountain. Might be a dumb question but as someone who hasn't worked off a shoulder rig before: is it difficult to maintain a level horizon line in your frame from that position? The pad looks like it fits the contour of your shoulder nicely, but would sit as a bit of an angle.. so do you just keep it propped up to one side slightly while filming?

Thanks man it was really exciting to be back at the mountain! Working off a shoulder rig, I have to say I expected it to be hard to keep level considering I've always worked with the camera directly in front of me, but it didn't struggle much to keep it level. You're correct that it doesn't set perfectly flat on my shoulder when filming, but the pad is rounded enough that it still sits comfortably. I (Paul) am not very good at keeping level anyway but Spencer says he noticed a more level horizon from my shoulder rig than my handheld footage. It's really about getting the handle-arm to a comfortable length so that you right hand isn't working to hard, then it's easy to shoot from the shoulder. Hope that's helpful!

Sounds like you gaffed up the ports and connection points but just curious how weather rated you found the screens to be to the moisture in the air and whatnot

@@baileybeltramo5737, We have yet to film with the Ninja V while it is snowing, but we got out when it was 10 degrees and they worked well. A little laggy with the LCD but still recorded perfectly. A large battery is a must. The V-mount was absolutely necessary.

Cool to see you guys using both fuji and canon glass on Fuji cameras, do you find any advantage to using canon ? I am wondering if its worth getting a converter to use my EF 24-70 or if im better off sticking with fuji 18-55 ?

The real benefit to Canon lenses is that it's not focus-by-wire like the Fuji Lenses. We much prefer the physical manual focus from the canon lenses so it's a nicer experience for us. Resulting image generally looks the same or similar though so it's just about user preference.

Great video thank you for sharing! Has your B-cam ever had trouble with the Rode VideoMicro? I was looking into getting either a VideoMicro or VideoMic Go ii for my X-T4, but they both seem to require Plug-in power from the 3.5 jack, and according to Fuji, the X-T's don't have that so I'm worried it won't work. Right now I use the VideoMic NTG, but I'd like to have an option that doesn't use a battery.

TL;DR YES, you can use small 3.5mm such as the Video Micro with Fujifilm Cameras. This is a great question. I just checked the Fujifilm Manual and they say "Microphones that require plug-in power cannot be used. This is confusing and incorrect. I assume what they mean is microphones that require "phantom" power (+48v) like XLR microphones will not work. However, plug-in power (sometimes referred to as bias power) is around 3-5v and is required for small microphones such as the Rode Video Micro. Fujifilm X-T4 and nearly all modern mirrorless cameras do provide this small amount of power without changing any settings in the menu. I'm surprised to see a strange error like this in the manual. I've had great luck with the Video Micro for years, it's a nice microphone for the price and as you mentioned, it's simple. No need to remember to charge it or change batteries and it just works. I have no personal experience with the VideoMic Go II but audio samples I've heard sound nice and spec sheet shows that it also requires 2-5v so you should be all set with that mic too. Shooting on 3 fujis too, I guess, you guys made the very best of it. I‘m using an XH1, an XT3 and ab XT4. While my power supply is solved with my rig for the XT4, I am still struggling with batteries and wires. What do you think about the 16-55?

I've heard amazing things about the 16-55. Never had a chance to shoot with it since I have always used the 18-55 "kit" lens and it's very good for video. Never had a reason to "upgrade" to the bigger/faster non-IS lens. Power supply is certainly a constant struggle. I agree that the X-T4 is really impressive with it's new battery design!

The 16-55 is my go to zoom lens. It’s amazing, both for photos and video. the image quality is so great that it can replace a few primes.

The Fringer EF-FX pro adapter. It works with aperture control, autofocus, and image stabilization. I definitely recommend it.

Have you had any issues with the Smallrig HDMI clamp causing damage to the flaps? It worries me so much when I see my flaps bend almost 170 degrees out.

We have not had any issues. The flaps still work perfectly. I wish they were removable. They are very much in the way.

Yes sorry for not being clear in the video, We use the Fringer Pro fx-ef adapter and then use Canon EF mount lenses.

Hi I shoot wedding films with my xt3 and xt4 I wanted to know if you had any tips for me to avoid overheating rolling for longer periods of time. Also do you guys run timecode for multi cam? Last question I want a great shotgun mic I can use for run and gun audio any recommendations?

I think the best thing you can do if you hope to roll for a long time is get a Ninja V and record externally. We did this for years and it worked like a charm. As for timecode, we usually synced up timecodes in the Ninjas at the beginning of the day and that was close enough to nudge clips into place using audio waveforms.

Hey! Took myself last week viltrox ef-fx2 ... Works horribly, even after update the latest firmware ... I have fujifilm xt4 and a canon ef 24-105 usm ll lens. The ibis inside the camera does not work, as soon as I connect the adapter, the stabilization in the lens also does not work ... The stabilization is activated only by the tracking autofocus, if it loses the point, it immediately turns off the stabilization and the picture shakes ... In general, I'm renting it back ... Tell me plz, I considered myself a fringer, but it is without a lens and probably will not fit a full-frame lens ef 24-105? Or wich adapter you recommend? Idk what to do... the lens is very good, I don't want to sell it

We use the Fringer adapters and they work flawlessly. I attach my EF 24-105 all the time, AF and stabilization on the lens and in body work with XT-4. We manual focus almost 100% of the time so I can't speak to reliable AF.

Good question, we have a few that we cycle through these days depending on the scenario. In this video you're seeing the Hoya Variable ND. It's great because it ranges from 1.5-9 stops so can be used in so many scenarios. It does have a slight color shift that needs to be corrected but it's really not bad. And the price is very reasonable. B+W XS-Pro ND Vario is a great option but quite expensive and only from 2-5 stops. Best image quality though with no color shift to our eyes. The Polar Pro Basecamp Mattebox and VND is the one we use most commonly these days. Fantastic image quality and elegant design. It is expensive, large, and heavy in comparison to the other threaded filter options. Hope that's helpful!

And ...I just tested my Canon 24-105 with the Viltrox ef-fx. Do you have, or have you had, some issues with C-AF and with exposure? The ISO and Aperture seem to be linked in a way but I didn‘t find a setting to control it. I am overlooking something? Thanks!

We use the Fringer EF-Fx Pro adapter. I've never worked with the Viltrox version. With the Fringer, it's definitely a little lacking with with regard to autofocus but all other functions (exposue, IS, etc) seem to be equal to native glass.

@@peterujfalusi2764 A lot of third-party adapters have the option for firmware updates. We had some early glitches that were solved by plugging into the computer. Might want to try that with your viltrox adapter?

They are both great in their own way. Sigma is incredibly sharp, even wide open at f/1.8 which is a real treat for any indoor shooting. The range is more limited but it's a great wide-standard range so depending on the needs of the shoot and your style and preferences it might be all you need. It is a mechanical focusing system so it's very nice for manual focus as there's no latency between turning the ring and the focus changing. The 18-55 is an incredibly versatile lens. It is stabilized which can often come in handy, especially on the longer end near 55mm. autofocus is fantastic on that lens which is nice to have. Manually focusing this lens however is not a very pleasant experience, as It is focus-by-wire meaning the ring digitally tells the focus motor to move via the camera. No noticeable lag but a much less tactile and pleasant experience to use. and of course the elephant in the room, it's not only a slow aperture at 3.5-5.6 but it's also variable so you either have to shoot at 5.6 or darker, or you simply cannot zoom while recording as the exposure will change. I hope that's helpful!
