Finally got a chance to do the 2021 Harley Davidson Softail Fat Bob 114 review. The first ride on the Sofail Fat Bob 114 (FXFBS) as a beginner rider was intimidating but I was able to get used to this bike quite early. Harley's Milwaukee 8 114 engine fits perfectly on the 2021 Softail Fat Bob and during the first ride review, I was surprised how different Fat Bob felt from Softail Slim and Softail Fat Boy on the highway and city rides. As a Sportster Iron 883 rider, this may be the perfect upgrade motorcycle!

I know this video is a yr old, as a Fat Bob owner, maybe adding my comment to your video will additionally help some that may be thinking about getting a Fat Bob. For some reason HD has the foot brake adjusted too low, if you owned the bike, that would be something that is easy to adjust, it would most definitely help with you getting cramps. Also, You may want to try holding the front brake when at a stop light, that way you can put both feet down. Beside that, I got used to the front controls pretty fast. The Fat Bob, is just a real comfortable bike to ride, and it is very smooth over the bumps, has plenty of torque and handles well. Such an awesome bike. I just don't get why or who at HD thought it to be a good Idea to install bronze and silver for the exhaust, the useless mirrors, and as u state, the gas tank location of the gauges. I installed black heat shields(sold on HD website) and Reinhart slip-ons, to solve the exhaust issue. Regarding making changes to the exhaust, you have to use the screaming eagle tune and keep ur catalyst to maintain your factory 2 yr warranty. I installed longer stemmed HD mirrors(also sold on HD website), which are exact match to the factory mirrors except that they extend out farther, which makes it easier to see behind you. My R1 , had the same issue, useless mirrors. Anyway, Thanks for the reviews.

oh wow - thank you for such detailed response and sharing your experience! After a year, this bike is still by far my favourite harley experience. I thought maybe the LRS would have taken the cake but after a short test ride on both the LRS and LRST, the fatbob is still my fav in terms of looks, ergo, and comfort!

When this bike came out it seemed so radical. But the odd thing is, this is one of the most comfortable Harleys made. That seat, those bars are for me as comfortable as anything out there.

I'm a complete beginner, took an msf course and got my license already. I ended up going to a harley dealer recently and was able to test ride some bikes like the 48 and a lot of the softail models. This bike here was the only one I had second thought about test riding because of the engine size but it was surprisingly easy to handle and comfortable as hell. So much so that I'm actually considering it as my first bike. Not looking for the fastest bike they have available but this one just felt so damn good to ride.

It is a lot $$$ for a first bike but if you can afford it and have the discipline to not override your skillset (especially on corners) - this bike is a keeper! One thing that is served true for me was that you get to learn more on how to ride technically on a smaller displaced motorcycle. Bigger bikes such as this is pure comfort and thrill which after riding for a year on my sportster, I am longing for.

I liked mine. 2018 114 Stage 2. Black powder coated the heat shield, and had Reinhart slip on mufflers. Loved the big front tire, it rolled over everything, loved the mono-shock suspension and the seat. Decent brakes. Hated the gauges on the tank, like you mentioned. It was fun for awhile, stylin is unique. Good review, once again. I suggest you trade up 😎

Mine is a 2011 and I did a hillbilly welding job on it by installing floorboards from a FatBoy. I still have the old pegs and didn't harm the actual bike mountings or anything but it did take a while to grind the edges from the boards along the bends. Now they are a neat 45 degrees at the outer edges.

Ya , I like this bikes also !! Another great review ! I am with you, would be better with black slip ons. For a first bike … I always recommend a used bike first, low expense and once you get some road confidence and the first couple drops out of the way… then start searching for “your” bike if riding is really for you. Have known several people that spend a ton on the first bike and then find out a few months later that riding is not for them. Cheers

I've put an additional 6K in performance upgrades into it and everywhere I go, I always have this goofy grin on my face!!! I'm stage II 123 HP and 147 Ftp torque. This is my first Harley and my first bike in 33 years!!! Last bike was a brand new 1991 GSXR 750 that I rode very foolishly. My Fat Bob has good around town manners but can still hit 80mph in third gear when I ask it to. I just took it on a 1000 mile trip with the addition of a few bags from Biltwell and Thrashin supply. Had zero issues except for the freakin bird to the face one morning. The bird and I are both fine!

Harley, either love em or not. I own 3 bikes, one of them is a 2015 Harley Super Low 1200T. I am searching now for used low mileage Harley 2020/21 Low Rider S to purchase. I test rode the LRS more than once and love that bike. The Fat Bob I rode once but do not care for the forward controls. Will have to check if the Fat Bob can be fitted with mid controls to consider it a choice. My other two bikes are a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7II Stone and a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure S. I like of what I see with the 2022 Yamaha XSR 900 but cannot find a dealer where one is ready for test rides. Yeah, I cannot afford more than 4 bikes, more like only 3 haha will have to trade or sell my Harley Super Low 1200T if I buy another HARLEY. Keeping the other two. My KTM is one of the best handling bikes I have owned. It is quick, plenty of power, cruises at Highway speeds very well and can go off road as well. It is, IMO, a cross between an Adventure and Sport Touring Motorcyle (with the Panniers off). My Motto Guzzi is a dependable fun bike but not so much for Interstate travel or very long distance travel. More of a city bike and/or for two lane country/rural roads. U could ride it all day but not on the Interstate type roads. ***One of the things I added to my Harley SL 1200T was a "Saddlemen" two up seat and what a difference it makes, super duper comfort.

The 3 big differences from the Sportster S and Fat Bob that I will look for to gage which one is the better choice are: wheelbase (4" difference); single vs dual disc brakes; and handlebar controls. But time will tell which I will like more!
@volkerdammann6308
@volkerdammann6308 2 жыл бұрын
@@KSMotoCafe Fair enough… The Fat Bob has dual discs in the front and a single in the back. Somewhere I’ve read that the blocks are manufactured by Bembo, though they show a HD logo. The FB‘s brakes work well by any standard and can be deployed safely with confidence. The handlebar is easily exchangeable, so can be adapted to a rider’s physique, or preference… I own a new 2021 FB and really like it. We’ll built, with good power (for a Harley…) and huge torque. Easy to ride, but not necessarily for beginners. To be honest, the tank size is not problem whatsoever, unless you want/need to carry 30l of gas with you - like on a BMW R1250 GSA, or the Ducati Multistrada Enduro. Way too much mass high up on the bike. On the FXFBS I am getting around 300KM from a tank. By the time it goes empty on a longer ride, it’s time for a break anyway… I have had my share in bikes in the past, incl. Triumph Daytona, BMW (multiple R and K models…), Ducati Multistrada, as well as a current 2020 Livewire. The 2021 FB is definitely up there with the best naked bikes.

Beginning riders… sorta depends on you… it’s probably best to start on an iron 883. But not mandatory… If you ride 500 miles on a 883 and use most of that mileage to learn techniques.. slow speed riding ..U-Turns figure 8 stopping and starting properly and learning to corner and proper clutch friction zone usage…. If you can take your Sportster and go pretty much anywhere a bike can go.. then you are probably ready for a bigger bike…. IMO

Just fyi, referring to the comment you made that every softail should have the dual disc brake, whether it’s one or two discs, the stopping power is the same. You mentioned the other models had a “weaker front brakes,” which is not true. Dual discs basically help reduce the heat, preventing break fade.
@KSMotoCafe
@KSMotoCafe 2 жыл бұрын
one disc with four piston calliper has less stopping power than a dual disc each with four piston calliper. Less Brake Fade also helps with shorter stopping distance. And you get less brake fade with more surface area of braking points from the rotor to the pads. The other models do have lower braking power than the fat bob. if you can prove me wrong, i will be sure to correct myself but i stand by what i said about the braking power

Question for you on the Fat Bob. Would you consider this bike for long rides? Maybe 150 miles? Loving my Iron 883 but it's not a bike you would want if you still want a decent relationship with your back.
@KSMotoCafe
@KSMotoCafe 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I would - the bike to this date was still the most comfortable for ergonomics and handling. I would put a windscreen to shave off the wind resistance if you choose to but definitely a good bike for long distance too (minus the smaller fuel tank)

@@KSMotoCafe Thanks. I'm going to try one out today and see if my last concern is going to be an issue. That last concern is the forward controls. I'm 5'7" and if that works out on this Fat Bob, I might be riding home with one as a second bike. Never giving up on my Sportster 883 though. It's not the most comfy of rides but I just can't let it go. ever.

@@KSMotoCafe Well, I did get to try the Fat Bob and it was all you said it was. BUT, I also got to try the Low Rider S. And now, dilemma time. Which one to go for. I might go for which my wallet says "that one". But not sure if that's something I'll be saying further down the road.

wooo that is a good dilemma! LRS wins for long distance travellers since it has the 5G gas tank. The FB wins for slight performance and just being definitely different from other bikes. I had so many people asking what the FB was during my ride. Man that is a good problem to have! Let me know what you choose :)

So after riding most versions of softails and sportsters, I can confidently say that the softail fat bob is on the top of my list. But no, I didn't buy one because $$$ issues. HD keeps raising their prices (with no real upgrades) each year and the used market is really expensive as well. So I am just patiently waiting for the right time and while I wait, I am just learning how to DIY maintenance/mods on my Iron883

This is not a beginner bike. New riders make mistakes. New riders drop their bikes from time to time or worse. I would not want mistakes that are this costly. I will have one, in ~2 weeks, also one year exp on bikes as you, current honda hornet 600 from 2000y, I have no idea what to expect, but I can't explain the feelings. I must own it, and that's it.
@KSMotoCafe
@KSMotoCafe 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't ridden the Hornet but if it handles similar to the Ducati Monster, I can tell you these points: - FB will definitely feel heavier and difficult to handle. Take your time to get used to having forward controls because coming from mid/rear, it definitely will feel funky and over extended. Be sure to practice stop/go/slow manoeuvre/changing gears in the parking lot before heading out on the road. Expect to maybe even hate the handling at first but when you get used to it, it is a different feeling of riding. - throttle response will feel different and less responsive than the naked sport bikes but once she is moving, it will feel like a tank (in a good way) - stopping power is also very different and you need to get used to giving yourself more space/time to stop/slow down. When you get used to the timing and spacing - you will be unstoppable. - Harley has more metal parts than Hondas, so keep her in doors and there are areas prone to rust, so apply some grease on them In the end, the Fat Bob is the best handling and performing cruiser I have ridden to date. As mentioned in my review, it is the best all around cruiser motorcycle! Keep me posted on how your first ride goes with the FatBob!

@@KSMotoCafe okey got it day before yesterday, last one that came to the EU. As I said before, I doesn't had a chance to ride on it before, only on street bob, and I can say that's harder a lot on fatbob to get into curve, these tyres tried to put bike vertically after the counter. Bike is geniue new so I can't open gas on full until first 500 miles, but 3.5k rpm for now, and it's still a lot, can't wait to cross the limit until I can go max. What have I done on it before I put my ass on, change slipson to Rinehart, air filter to K&N and engine map, everything on dealer side. Bike looks pretty cool, I'm 6.10 and 230 lb, so at least it fits for me, and I doesn't looks like on pitbike. He is muscular and massive, moving around on parking spot is also a bit of challenge, but this is fun, this is what I expected, big chunk of bare metal and raw energy. What can I say, I love it. I will force him to laid on the curve, he will bow to me. Thanks once again for your review, I can confirm that riding on this bikes makes you smile and bring a lot of fun. And what's the most important, you are quite unique on the road with this bike, which is also nice. Can't wait to piss of everyone's sports bike asses on the street ;) Regards!

congrats again on the bike! I can understand exactly what you are talking about - especially about the challenge in a corner or during a slow turn but it gets easier once you get used to riding with forward controls and learn its balance. there are guys who rode 30 years and never dreamed of over 103 ci , now they have 114 at 32 years of riding. It’s not up to a one year rider who can ride 114ci Some guys have years of BMX and dirt bike experience but on the internet you are speaking to a broad audience. when you have been to 3 motorcycle funerals you now have the right to recommend beginner bikes . Lots of riders panic and put the front brake on simultaneously twisting the throttle with the thumb. The 883 can make it to the next red light and stop sign fine. Harley should make 96ci option. Leave something for your 60th birthday. no need to max out now.

$17k on a new toy as a first bike buyer? Doubt you'd be willing to take risks associated with learning to ride and practice due to value of the bike. 1st bikes get marked up as u progress.Def not a first rode. And tho it's very impressive, the bike is bloated with unnecessary power, little tech to justify overly expensive cost.

How many miles can be completed on the bob's tyres? My Bob's rear tires Dunlop D429 weared after completing 14ks..What are other good options? One issue m facibg is with the Speedo getting foggy after over 50 mile run.. Probably coz of the tremendous Heat it generates.. Otherwise the Machine is damn comfortable one can travel more than 600 miles nonstop (if one can control their instincts & get along with a Mature thought process)
@KSMotoCafe

well you should judge your tire wear based on its markings and not by the mileage. There should be an indicator of wear and tear in between the grooves. As for the meter fogging up, it means you got water in there and should get it looked at before warranty ends because water and electricity is never good! but I agree with you, still by far the far bob was my most comfortable, stylish, and performance based experience
