The closest match I am yet to see in the field is between these two cars. It's really a tough call for consumers and it calls for interesting times. Who could have thought, 10 years ago, that we will be answering the question "which one is better between a GWM and a Chery product?

That Tiggo CVT won the best transmission in the world in 2019! It beat all the big guns i.e. Toyota, audi, you name them.

Thanks a lot Zee. We kick starting 2022 now🙂 A lot of manufactures are gonna have to rethink their costing strategies. Also the government might be at fault here depending on the kind of deals they give manufactures based on the kind of cars they bring. Remember the more a car is carrying the "luxury" tag the more its being taxed and thats passed on to us🤔

We took the automatic versions of both vehicles for test drives. The Jolion is very luxurious inside, but very sluggish to drive. The paddle shifters are also very sensitive and you can accidentally change the car to manual without even noticing and then you need to jump on the touch screen to change the mode back which is not great. The Chery was very nippy and responsive and you could tell why the CVT came out tops at the car awards. If you are mainly looking for a luxurious drive I'd say take the jolion, if you are looking for efficiency go for the Chery.

Compliments to you too Sebuwa. Great analysis you've made between the two cars. Having watched the two reviews you've made of the two cars and my thoughts after test driving the jolion, I agree the engine feels lil overworked and the "pull" of that Tiggo is impressive esp for a CVT. With regards to the exterior styling, Phil Simmons was just flexing on that Jolion. Tiggo is not bad itself but I am being subjective here and going with the Jolion. Great review, maybe you should now do the Cross Hybrid v H6 lux. They almost have the same selling price. Very interesting battle there on brand loyalty vs Value for money.

Thanks a lot Tshepo. Much appreciated. The Tiggo's CVT really feels to be a class above rivals. The H6 one will be quite a tough one looking at the corolla, last I checked the top spec Corolla was around R450 and the mid spec lux 2wd H6 was R454 (I think its R10K more now). H6 is also a class above the Corolla Cross the way I see it, remember its in the Rav4 class and Jolion is sitting with the Corolla. Its more likely than not that the H6 will just be an outright winner based on overall design (inside-out), size, comfort and superior power figures.

Great review. Drove both, overall Chery is a better drive and comfort, haval has better tech and interior layout. Ext Design: Chery tiggo looks like the Haval h6 exterior(which is more modern and aggressive) and executes interior quality. Haval Jolion design (love or hate). My preference is the Chery 4 SE for long term value, spec package and daily drive.

I drove both Jolion and Tiggo in manual and i found the Haval to be better, not sure about the automatic versions though!

Great Channel Sebuwa. For me, why I am more attracted to the Cross Hybrid XR is for 10gran, the comprehensive warranty goes to 10yr unlimited. I test drove the Cross Hybrid, now for the Haval Jolion/H6. The question i keep asking myself is, are we really going to keep the cross for 10yrs and how would the haval quality be 3/4yrs later.

Thanks a lot Sherwin. I was not aware that the Corolla Cross has 10yr warranty, my understanding was that they all come with a 3yr warranty as standard. If any dealership offers that extended warranty it would be great and these days people hardly keep cars for that long anyway, it used to be a pride point back in the days but not anymore. The quality of Haval has been questioned by many over the years, this is year 5 since they opened the doors in SA and those who bought them in 2017 are still having them and they are still running with normal car issues being experienced like other well-established brands.

@@sebuwam Hey Sebuwa. I see I didn't reply :-)..After much research and with the Hybrid delivery of approx 3 Months, we ended up going with the Subaru XV. Much more Premuim on the inside then the Cross. I am more amped because its AWD... The CVT on the Subaru is so much better than every other CVT I drove. It imitates a 7 speed gearbox so its doesn't go to 5000rpm and screams.

Hello thank you for your review. I am watching you from DC. I may move to Chile and was considering the Chinese car Jalion or tiigo 7 pro or Geely Cool Ray. Don’t you think a better comparison is Jalion vs Tiggo 7 pro? Need your advice on that one.

Hi, I think Tiggo 7pro is quite a step ahead of the Jolion due to it being in a different segment, it is more comparable to the Haval H6🤔

I think on test its not gonna give you true figures. I heared many mentioning between 8L/100km to 10L/100km in real life driving

More or less similar. Hard accelerations just chow fuel in here. I know they are easier to live with when you avoid hard accelerations frequently. They can even go as low as 7L/100km but driving them on short test drives brings about 10L/100km

Awesome video!! Really detailed. Maybe in the near future could you do Toyota Cross vs Haval Jolion? I have a feeling that the Haval would beat it in tech and probably performance BUT toyota had that peace of mind for reliability and is more fuel efficient. Your opinion on this would would be greatly appreciated

Thanks a lot Jordan. I did consider that when I did the Corolla Cross. I just found this to be a more fitting one due to origin relation. I will try and see if its necessary as I have already spoken a lot about the Jolion. I totally agree with you though, the Corolla will win the environment tag but it will be tough to beat the Jolion overall based on tech and specs.

The jolion has a DCT setting which creates an immersive audio experience. It's quite nice if you're mainly looking at sound...

Hi from what I know, they are currently in the neighbouring countries, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland. As for Mozambique and Lesotho, I think they are importing from SA🤔

Yeah, I am really not sure. Especially because the Jolion was introduced last year Internationally, that person would have to be on the road doing long distance trips daily to clock that much. Please check the "Haval Owners Group" on facebook, they will help you a great deal with a lot of information directly from owners

Yeah is too early indeed to cover 100K for such a new car even if it was used as a rental car. Expect such distance probably in the middle of the year or towards the end of the year.

@@demtumza From my understanding only Bidvest (Now Bluu car rental) has it in their fleet and having hired from them over the last 5 years, it's rare to see a car above 50 000km at car rental lots. Maybe the pandemic might have led them to a change in strategy but even Avis at the time was changing cars after a year.
