I put an Aussie Aluminum Alloy Bull Bar on my 1987 Suzuki Samari. Was running 30" tires and a 2" lift, doing 65 MPH down the road and a ten point white tail buck jumped out of the ditch. This thing weighed 200lbs dressed. My reaction time in those days was better then most and I was able to hit the brakes at impact couldn't bare to look at damage for a few minutes, thought my Sami was toast. The only damage, was the top horizonat bar was bent maybe a half an inch! At 1000 dollar price tag in those days, that was the best insurance possible. Weight was a factor with the Sami so I went with the Aluminum Alloy, advertised as "strong as Steel"! Enjoy your treks on the tube, trying to adapt my Sami to accomodate my bilateral amputation, slowly but slowly, LOL. Regards John R Monroe Hibbing, Minnesota

Hey Ronny This is a great series of videos! I'm learning a lot, even for my Ranger, as my first proper build. So far my only disappointment is the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform not being as capable as I expected and was advised it would be, as you outlined. I'll keep my platform for now and just be more careful when loading it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have done with your tyres and suspension as these are more of a priority upgrade for anyone than some of your other indicated modifications. Cheers mate

I have a 2019 Hilux with a ARB Sahara Bar single hoop. The hoop is only thin aluminium held in with two M8 or M10 bolts either side. The protection that it would offer would be minimal. I didn't want or need a full bull bar, we do minimal rural travel and I didn't really like the look without a hoop. Not a comparison as such but maybe some food for thought.

Nice video again! About the transfer case bash plate, I think those mounting points on the case looks pretty weak. Aren´t you worried it will just break off those instead? I figure the original one will give way, but still protect the cast housing with a bit tougher steel? Maybe you have some experience or stories about what and how things break underneath - would surely be an interesting episode ;)

Hey Ronnie, just a thought on your winch set up. Weight, Safety and everything in between, I am pretty much down to a soft shackle for all my attachments now and have removed my hook all-together. Basically I go direct from the thimbled eye on the winch Dyneema to my soft shackle to the point I'm loading, cant for the life of me see why I need another potential point of failure in the system (the hook). I have a short section of inch poly pipe with a v groove cut out for the thimble that locks against my fairlead to hold the thimble in place, just winch in and lock it away. Works a treat, keep up the good work bud

Hey Ronny as always thanks for your work. Quick question and recommendation, 40mm or 60mm ARB Summit steel bullbar? For a 78LC what would you suggest? I don’t intend to install flares on the LC78. I’m leaning towards 40mm due to weight. What is your recommendation regarding weight and strength difference stats. Thanks in advance and Happy Easter.

Great info Ronny, I’ll suggest double checking the weight of your bar. Had a steel TJM delivered to my home to install on my FJ. i was told it weighed 65kg. Bar arrived in box and the weight printed on the box was 100kg. I weighted every piece contained in the box and yep it all came to 100kg. I weighed the parts that came off my FJ to install the bar which came to 12kg. I added 88kgs before even installing the winch. Your weight of 65kg is bar only and not all the added bolts, support steel bracing etc etc

@@sonsam1966 it’s the outback T13 bar. My experience was back in 2014. Back then no weights were mentioned on their website and I could only get info of 65kgs by the salesperson. It was impossible to get accurate weights of bars back then by any manufacturer. For some reason they kept quiet on that area but we know why now. In 2017 I changed to an Xbox bar and halved the weight. Cheers

Another informative video Ronny. Can you advise what you done with the diff and gearbox breathers on the Hilux? The factory breather on rear diff is located on the diff housing and the gearbox/transfer are located on top of the bell housing, and did you manage to find where the breath for the front diff is located?

If the breather sits on the rear pumpkin, isn't that lower then the rated 700mm wading depth?
@arthurweier8044
@arthurweier8044 3 жыл бұрын
@@perpelle Hi pelleper, it is my understanding that the specified wading depth is set to prevent water ingress into the air box, the computer and other critical electric components, and maybe even the alternator and possibly any air vents. As the diff breather is effectively a one-way valve, no water (or air) should be able to get back through it. This can be an issue as when a hot diff is rapidly cool (like when do a water crossing or it gets splashed with lots of water) the air will reduce in volume and cause negative pressure inside the diff housing that will suck the diff breather closed. But as the negative pressure inside the diff will try to equalise with the outside atmospheric air pressure (or vice versa), it could end up sucking water, dust, mud in through the wheel bearings.

Love your vids mate. Ronny I get that you don't like the look of most aluminium bars but the Toyota aluminium bar is the best looking bar for that model car in my opinion (its well balanced compared to others) and you can have it painted black. It's winch compatible with the little number plate door. The product development budget is 20x more than all other after market bars so it's not unnecessarily over engineered, it has 90% the strength of steel, yet less than half the weight (not two thirds like you said) and of course its air bag compliant. It's designed to flex and fail before your chassis does which is a big thing if you don't want to crab walk forever after a kangaroo strike. It's also designed to act like a hull in water. The reason why I bought one is because being a bricky I've dropped many profiles over decades, steel and aluminium and the steel ones always bend on impact where as the aluminium ones flex and stay straight. I knew this flex was important so I went down that path and I was right. My bar has hit a good size roo (unfortunately hard enough to kill it) and it only dented (which was easy to hammer out). It acted like a tough spring, I suppose thats why Toyota promise you can drive on after a kangaroo strike. Thats my experience anyway.

Don’t go ARB they are shit. Get the TJM Outback bar. It has the in built recovery points so you don’t need to buy them separately and it doesn’t stick out so much as the ARB. Save yourself a $1000. Also another benefit is that most TJM stores will install any winch for you as long as it fits, ARB won’t touch any other brand. So you can go a kings winch if you want to save coin, or a warn, or a runva - choice is yours.

HI RONNY, I HAVE AN IMPORTANT COMMENT THAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO READ! Just like your issues with the roof rack, have you checked that you are under your front axle load rating with all that weight added to the front? Also is there enough weight left for the driver and a passenger? I know with that bar work that it protects the vehicle but it is quite an important point to mention non the less as insurance could be void if over the front axle load rating.

Q: Was the bumper cut-in the only option or do they offer a full replacement bar? The TJM Outback T13 bar includes rated recovery points and looks a lot better on later designed vehicles like yours because the design conforms to the angled or diamond-shaped grill. That model ARB bar is great but was originally designed for vehicles with a squarer, old school stance like the 79, Troopy etc. Love ARB, but it’s deffos time for them to up their game and release a bar for the 21st Century IMHO.
