Honda's brand new pair of inline-four middleweight motorcycles - the CB650R & CBR650R - have just gone on sale in India. There's no denying that this 650cc pair from Honda is a bit too pricey for everyone's liking. But is there any way that the CB650R & CBR650R can justify their high price tags?
To find the answer, we spent a couple of days with the CB650R & CBR650R. We used them on our daily commute, took one of them to the hills for an 800km road trip, and then rode the pair through some of our favourite section of twisty roads to see if the CB650R & CBR650R can please the enthusiast.
Watch the full review to see what we think of the 2021 Honda CB650R & CBR650R.

Wow the pricing in India is interesting being more expensive than a Z900 and a lot more than a trident. I agree with your review and comparison on it being a friendly city bike with a bit of performance. I own one and love it.

In my opinion the cbr650r is the best bang for your buck in this class. Performance isn't overwhelming but then again, it is a 650. This machine will provide a decent amount of performance for the street. Its not a superbike but it does have better numbers than any 650 on the market. In the looks department, this bike is extremely beautiful. Honda did an amazing job with this model. Very aggressive looking. When it comes to quality, there may not be a better motorcycle brand on the market that provides superior quality. Honda hit it out of the park with this one.

@@anilkumar-yi8jl There is a 1L difference between two bikes. Even if the service is high for Kawasaki, it’s not justifiable for Honda to price it this high. Also Kawasaki 950cc while Honda is 650cc which is quite insane.

Im in the US. I have a 19 cbr650r and it is amazing. Has plenty of power at 94hp and way more than the rest in the class. Keeps up with my supersport buddys no problem up to low triple digits and is extremely smooth. Its a beautiful bike and everyone ask about it at bike meets. Loves to wheelie and cant beat honda realibitly. And that inline 4 is buttery smooth. Very easy going under 6k but wakes up quickly after 7k. Couldnt have been happier with my first bike.

You talk about pricing! You should also be talking about the total cost of ownership. I agree the z900 is more powerful and at the same price tag but what noone will tell you is how expensive the maintenance is and how is the waiting period on the spares. Honda does take that initial money for sure but the maintenance is not a pain in the but. Servicing first 3 times in 3.5k and later around 7k now tell me Kawasaki is easier to own. And by saying someone in their right mind would go for something extreme. 1st you're saying all the cbr650r owners are out of their mind which is a harsh judgment to pass 2nd you don't know anything about what a rider wants it all depends. So passing that comment was just a dumb move taklu I mean yeah people own kawasaki and are taking care of it but for me my machines are long term and I gotta factor in the total cost of ownership.

You won't mind paying extra in service costs if you're getting a bigger, more powerful and better equipped motorcycle. I have a couple of friends who have Z900/Z800 and they're happy with their bikes/after sales service. And it's not that Kawasaki service costs a bomb, it's around 7-9k. Plus, Kawasakis are as reliable as Honda if not more. I understand that Honda is cheaper to maintain, but you're comparing a 650cc with a 900cc motorcycle here. Compare apples to apples. Do you think compared to a Trident you can cover up that 1.5 lakh premium in maintenance costs alone? Not in one lifetime for sure! Also, last I checked, these bikes are available only at 7 locations, compared to Kawasaki's 30+ dealer network. I absolutely loved the CB650R, and it, along with the CB500X, was something that I was genuinely considering for myself. But the pricing of both has sadly killed it for many. Still think the CBR can be considered for once since it's the only fully faired inline-4, but other than that, it's better to look at all the aspects rather than having a one dimensional (service costs in this case) approach.
@lenfernz
@lenfernz 3 жыл бұрын
@@shivank_bhatt haha I'm not the one comparing z900 with the cbr650 it's the taklu guy who is. And also judging people and saying their not in their right mind if they're buying cbr! Now comments that on me and see how I reply. My cbr is 30 days out from the date of delivery. All I'm saying is the video and comparison is shit there's no base line and judging people based on his thinking is so dumb

@lenfernz 3 жыл бұрын
@@shivank_bhatt yea one dimensional is not cool. I thought about it for almost 2 years did my research and everything. Based on which country I am it makes more sense for a cbr and use all that power than to buy a bigger motorcycle and not be able to use the power. I mean I'll be getting alot of questions and people not agreeing with me. But I'm happy with my baby blade and none of taklus comment affect me lol

Lets do a basic cost saving analysis of the Honda vs Kawasaki - A Z900 will cost around 24k in the first year. Honda will cost around 9k in the first year. Henceforth Honda will cost you around 6k per service or 12k per year regardless if you do it at Honda or at a 3rd party service center. If you service your Kawasaki at a 3rd party service center you will also pay around 6k per service. So your only real savings are in the first year. Post that the Honda costs almost the same regarding consumables like brake pads, tyres, chainsets etc.

How does someone compare a Inline 4 to a twin or triple cylinder engine?
@KR-nl7ne
@KR-nl7ne 2 жыл бұрын
CBR 650 r and cb 650 are meant for beginner riders or riders who are just moving up from their 300 CCs or you CBR 500s. So if you compare it to a z900 it's definitely going to come short as the Kawasaki is for a more experienced rider. Within the 650 class this bike is probably the best- inline 4, amazing brakes and shocks and around 94bhp( I am from Australia and unlike the Indian market we get a few bhps more). So when you say the engine power is linear it's meant to do that so as to make it beginner friendly. But the amazing part about this machine is that as you get better at riding this bike would still keep you happy as it packs a lot of power for road use. The trident is a great bike but is a little underpowered as compared to the Honda. The pricing is unfair in the Indian market( it's so much better here) but the extra price is probably for the premium parts and for being best in class

@@callsigncrusader9877 yep, we don't have 97 octane in normal fuel stations power, speed and premium are all 91 octane but with additives which helps the engine remain clean and smooth. Since it's hard to find those fuel when you go on long rides it's ok to fill up normal fuel for that moment then when you return back home keep using power or speed. Unless you want to go with Indian oil's only 97 octane petrol which I'm sure not more than 4 outlets that too in metro cities. Cbr is good on Power too so chill..

Comments Add a public comment... Dervisher 1 week ago After spending this year riding on the 2021 CB650R and putting 7k on the on it in just shy of 4 months, you could say one likes the bike just a little bit. It's one of the most comfortable, neutral feeling, and responsive bikes that gives you the best of both worlds. An upright positioning similar to that of a dual-sport/mountain bike feel, yet reacts almost as fast as a dedicated sport bike. A simple shift of the hips will make the bike move where you want it, even at higher speeds. The sound is perfect stock if you enjoy that F1 high screaming sound of an inline four and yet maintains a nice quiet note at low rpm's saving you grief from your neighbours. The positioning of the exhaust seems more modern and tidy in comparison to it's larger big brother and the offset pipes on the right add a beefy aggressive look. The changes made with the Showa shocks are nice despite not allowing for adjustability (as was stated on some release reviews) and although it is nice as higher speeds, cracks, small pothole and even tarsnakes are noticeable at lower speeds which at times can take away from the otherwise smooth ride. Some may prefer the simplistic and stylish LCD display over the TFT seen on the 1000cc although each have advantages in certain lighting conditions. It would be nice to have had the option for an upgrade package that included switchable riding modes but at least the option for add the quickshifter is available. The classic round headlight on the 650cc vs the slanted back and horseshoe-shaped on the 1000cc black edition has a more classic look that might appeal to those trying to keep the bare bones "old-school" look while having some of the modern appeal thrown into the mix. The lighting itself is phenomenal and extremely bright with just the daytime runners on. The highbeams are on par with that of a xeon headlight in a car and will give you no issues on those dark dingy roads. The biggest disappointment (a small one at that) is the rear seat storage and lack of the promised usb-c charging port. The Americas never got one and even though it's a cheap add-on one can easily do yourselves, you'll be hard pressed to even fit a phone in there given the miniscule amount of space inside. The rear seat itself is a challenge itself as you need to apply pressure and keep it level as you push down, back and out. The design of the hooks makes it a pain until you figure out the moves to the dance. The bike can easily allow for day long rides provided you take breaks at least every two hours or so, anything over that straight will make you rear end pay the price. It's managed to hold up to a wide array of short road trips in Canada in various conditions and again has extremely smooth and responsive handling. Wind and heavy rainfall can be a bit tricky at times given the exposed nature of a naked bike but even if you're over six foot you can manage if you position yourself well and shift weight as needed to compensate. It has enough weight behind it to hold its ground but will also take some finesse to keep control in more extreme weather. The rear plate holder acts as a decent mud guard and has been an upgraded to metal combined with plastic louvers like those you'd find on the rear window of a old Mustang. It balances the bike adding length to the shorter body and makes for a nice contour to the rear wheel. As with most Honda's the second gear definitely needs a firm click and isn't something you can gently graze like some bikes. It's extremely easy to find neutral on this bike but also just as easy to toss it into a false neutral while shifting out of first if you're not assertive with it. You'll find reviews complain about brake and throttle responsiveness but this is coming from people that own and review bikes made for the track. Not something that's anyway realistic to find from a general street bike in this price point. A lot of comparisons are made to the Triumph Triple being better power and value for the price but again, it comes to style and feel preferences along with reliability. If you're looking for a bike that has character, good street responsiveness and a bare bones bike feel the 650R is the way to go.

"Just priced a little too high" seems to be Honda's entire marketting & pricing "strategy" for India. Sometimes I feel like they price themselves out of the segment just to show low sales numbers and the lack of viability of the big bike business. Almost feels like they want to be done with it and send the entire segment off to the chopping block and continue making scooters and just not bother....

Z900 might be cheaper than cb650 but, the maintenance, reliablity and the spare parts will will take a big chunk out of your wallet. Coming to trident, it feels cheap. The materials used feels like siting on a fibre or plastic. And the cb650 doesn’t heat up like trident. So imo, cb650r/cbr650r has still got it, Because of honda’s reliability, performance and service. And I think a person can spare 1 more lakh just to get the premium stuff.

How is this bike even acceptable in the slightest terms ? It has been launched at a whopping 9.7 lakhs, producing 80 odd horsepower. The zx6r has a price tag of 10.5 lakhs, with a 127 horsepower . It's a different segment, but how on earth do you make sense of a bike when it's competition is completely blowing it off the table. At this point, Honda is is just simply coming on hope and name, rather than a good product.

With the naked one , honda has jumped into shark infested waters with bleeding stomach. Bcoz of the price , the naked bike has to face tougher competition. On the other hand the sporty CBR650 R is not overpriced considering Ninja650 is a parallel twin where as the ZX-6R is much more expensive and a different segment altogether.
