Hey, Brent. Been marathoning your vids the last two days and have learned so much! I'll admit, I've been a bit gun-shy about buying a Deere, due to the price. But as you've walked me through the features, I see all the little engineering touches that elevate them above the competition. Right now, it's between the Deere, Cub Cadet, and Simplicity on 3.5 acres. Now, I just need a set of sweet Western Equipment decals! 🤣 Keep up the great work!

Important note: I think the 4 wheel steer feature on this mower works well with outside curves but not so much inside curves. I believe you may need the 48” deck if the inside curve of a mulch bed or sidewalk needs the deck to reach it. I don’t think the 4 WS alone will make that happen for you on the 42” deck. My number one reason to select a 4 WS is to avoid coming back to trim. To test this simply spray paint or mark the travel of the tire path then note the 42” deck cannot reach the outer edge of the tire path. Correct me if I’m wrong. I almost made an expensive blunder selecting the X354. Perhaps this could be a topic on another video? Thx

Hi Bred,hope your well man,i got my X350R are all tuned up and working like a dream,what i noticed on the drive system for the mower deck belts is there are 2 drive systems there,with one coming of the drive pulley of the other,and one being a double sided v belt which of coarse just has v shaped pulleys in its drive chain but can drive both sides of the belt,the other is a standard v shaped belts with 2 tensioner pulleys with the flat side used against the tensioner pulleys of coarse,thought id mention this because this explains why you just cant get these 2 belts mixed up guys if you need to change your belts,im sure you would know this but to anyone whos not familiar just thought id point this out,also when you use your 3/8 wrench to take the tension of the crank pulley it must be done on the the left side of the mower when sitting on the tractor as this one comes of the crank pulley the tensioner on the right side is a separate belts piggy back of the crank pulley belts,great videos and catch you again.David uk England.

These are definitely worth the money to upgrade past the X300. You get the better transmission in these that will last many years. Trust me fellas it's worth every penny to upgrade past the K46 transmission in the x300 to the K58 in this model Every X series is worth it. Always buy the highest model you can afford. Higher model = better and better transmission strength. It's the most important part of a lawn mower or garden tractor.

Would like to see different deck widths against RIGHT turning edges such as curved landscaping and flower beds. Many 42” and smaller will leave large untrimmed edges simply because mower wheels will hit the edging because of the concave shapes.

Very professional and informative video, Brent. A few questions for you regarding the 4 wheel steering. 1) I have a extremely steep hill in my front yard. With my old LX277, I have to drive straight up and then back down the hill while cutting. Would the 4 wheel steer veer off from a straight line while backing down? 2) Does the 4 wheel steering require more maintenance than the traditional rear drive.? Thanks
@WesternEquipment
@WesternEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. To answer your questions: 1) It should not veer off as long as you are holding the wheel straight just as you would your LX277. 2) It will require two additional grease points at the rear as shown in the video at 19:27 in this video. Great questions and thanks for watching!

Great review, I have 2 X300 series JD's. Both 2011. Ones an X300 48" deck. The other is an X304 42" deck. Happy with both machines as they are smooth and have Kawasaki V twins. My issue is the garbage PLASTIC PULLEYS on the DRIVE belt tensioner that always burn out. The belt burns through the plastic pulley. Junk. Why not have stamped steel pulley or cast aluminum???? John Deere puts plastic pulleys on these premium ridding mowers? When they break I loose time and money?? Not happy. Stupid.... just to save a buck on each pully.

That is a good question. This model just does not offer one. I believe it is mostly due to the design of the rear axle. Thanks for watching!

Could you direct me to the cheapest way in the x300 series to get a Kawasaki engine and the mulching switch?
@WesternEquipment
@WesternEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
So the best way to go would be with an X350 with a 42" deck and then you could go with either the manual or electric mulch control option. The manual mulch control option will have a lever on the deck to open and close the discharge chute whereas if you go with the electrical it will be more expensive.

@@WesternEquipment Well, bought somethin. They had X370s on sale for 300 bucks off and 400 bucks for my LT155. Sprung for the manual mulch control. Thought the manual would be a better investment because I felt like the motor option would probably fail for one reason or another. Should be delivered on Monday. Thanks for the help!

Thanks again for a great review. I'm looking at buying an X354 but also thinking about the X370. When you turned the wheel in this video it looked like it wasn't a big effort and I imagine it is even easier when the tractor is moving. Maybe the power steering isn't a big difference to have on the 370?
@WesternEquipment
@WesternEquipment 3 жыл бұрын
Oh it definitely make a big difference but just keep in mind the 370 won’t be four wheel steer but if you want power steering and four wheel steer you will have to bump up to the X394. All of them are great mowers though. I hope you find what you really want and thanks for watching!

@@WesternEquipment LOL, I've already talked myself up to an X354 or and X370. I better not even think about that X394. It is kind of a tough choice. Probably the hydraulics are nice for the deck lift as well. Will have to ponder some more. Really appreciate your comments.

Haha just trying to throw out all of the options. I know these mowers can get pricy but John Deere often offers great finance options for these mowers as well. May be a way to make sense of jumping to that X394. Just a thought lol

did you ever think about doing a video on what to do about spinning tires on a 100 series mower? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r8BklbJ_kri-o5s.html putting lugs on a lawn tractor is pretty extreme. most people with a nice lawn won't want to do that

@@WesternEquipment Thanks, ya that would make a good video. I've seen that same problem happen even when mowing on mostly level ground. The best solution is probably the terra grips but if you don't have them or don't want to spend the money for them, I'm wondering if there's something else you can wrap around the tire for traction, or if there's a special way you can "jog" the transmission to get it to engage the other wheel.

Don't buy this John Deere x147r Ride on mower. Unless you want to mow a level short lawn that doesn't get too long. Maybe a bowling green would be suitable. The grass shute constantly clogs up if you mow heavy green grass so you have put your arm in and pull it all out. You have no warning when it clogs and jams the blades while the motor keeps spinning the deck belt resulting in black smoke coming out that lets you know there's serious problem. If you're lucky the belt will jump off the pulleys. Putting the catcher back on is a frustrating procedure the makes you think it from a different model. The lock catch on the catcher releases very often dropping grass out the back. The whole catcher set up is flimsy and cheap. Not too mention frustrating. Not good around trees as the catcher handle sticks up way too high and hooks onto branches. 1 hr of use after buying this brand new mower it developed an unnerving clunking sound in the deck. I've always owned John Deere and have been a happy customer,but this model is poorly engineered and designed.
