A video review of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz A250e. A plug-in hybrid car from Mercedes also referred to as PHEV for short. PHEV vehichles have an engine, motor, and battery that allow them to be a driven as EVs, hybrids or a petrol car.
You can buy a Mercedes A250e for around $65,000, depending on the body style, the sedan is a bit more expensive. This is the current Manufacturer’s Recommended List Price that includes GST, but not on roads or dealer delivery.
This latest PHEV from Mercedes offers an all-electric range that is actually usable for most people and their everyday driving needs.
This A-Class is powered by a 1.3 L unit with 118 kW and 250 Nm. It is paired with an electric motor that gives 75 kW but awesome 300 Nm of torque. The combined output is not a simple sum of those numbers and it adds up to 160 kW and 450 Nm. The official fuel economy under the ADR combined cycle is 1.6 L per 100 km.
The Mercedes-Benz A250e is an awesome entry into the Australian EV market with great benefits of both the ICE and EV worlds.

I have a hatchback one, and I must say that I am delighted with the performance. This model satisfies my urban mobility needs, since almost all the km are done in electric mode, and for fast roads and long distances it uses the combustion engine (combined with the electric motor) There is a very pleasant ride comfort, and those who are passionate about technology will find themselves in their natural environment. Obviously, each person has their own needs and therefore the same type of vehicle is not valid for all people. In my particular case, I travel most of the kilometers in the city, and my long-distance trips are few, hence I have opted for this model. Greetings.

I like the sedan more. But how has the hatch less boot space? Fuel economy on those hybrids is straight up a lie

I love the Mercs from the 50's thru to early 80's when they were distinguished, brash and beautiful. They looked like nothing else then on the market. Remember those body coloured hubcaps they used? Mercs today? The one above could be a Subaru or Kia. That edge is now gone.

@@koioo2 Plug-in-hybrid cars are the way to follow. Because electric energy is cheaper ... so, the driver will try to run electric as more as he/she can. No need to be forced by no one. But if the charging isn't posible ... the driver has to have the posibility to continue his/her trip ... with the ICE engine. So, in my opinion ... the actual trend ... to all electric cars ... is wrong ... and it will lead to massive social distress. 😐

$65000 for a base model A250e... that’s around $70000 drive away. For the hatch. For the sedan, add a few features like keyless entry and you’re looking at $75000 drive away. Add petrol en annual servicing (which is going to be more expensive because of the more complex nature of the setup) and you spend another $2000 to $3000 a year. Just go for a Tesla Model 3. $70000 driveway. Faster, no maintenance, nicer to drive. If you must go conventional, go for a C-class.

Torsion bar rear end!… Mercedes ‘ shooting themselves in the foot’ as customers of this marque demand a nice compliant ride, but get a firm uncomfortable one. Even Toyota Camry and Corolla have a multi link rear suspension ( which Mercedes originally designed first back in 1983 on the small 190 model ) with outstanding ride quality.

Yeah I hear you. But charging times need to be reduced, and infrastructure increased to create the convenience currently expected by the public. Electric will take off provided the buyers aren't inconvenienced with teething issues. Over time, technology will of course, improve. Maybe we'll cease being called 'motorists' and instead be called..........'electricians' maybe? 😜👍

@@noelgibson5956 thoughtful comment and right mate. The thing is - for out family city car I doubt it will ever need charging outside of home. We have the luxury of two cars so can keep a long range ice car. The new group of EVs coming typically have 400k range. This is enough that home charging will be all we need. I’ve driven a few EVs now and they are awesome. 👍😀

This is the lowest spec exterior package and by far the cheapest merc, I do agree with you though the one shown here looks pretty basic. (even the lowest spec a250e available in the UK has a sportier look, and better interior, although upgrades are expensive), I'm not sure why this one doesn't have rear vents as mine does :/ .

This is simply just a ego flex tool for the wealthy to feel better about themselves. At $71,000 + Insurance the people who can afford this do not care about the price of fuel, be it fossil or electric, regardless of how many miles they do the fuel cost will be so insignificant to their disposable income it is simply irrelevant. There is no incentive in Au to go electric anyway, unlike the UK and US the Au Gov doesn't support EV's.
