When it comes to sporty cars, abbreviations that get tacked onto the end of names tend to mean good things. And usually the more the better. So, when you see JCW, for John Cooper Works, added to a Mini Cooper hardtop along with GP, you know you're in for a good time.

It would add weight. With the LSDs we have now FWD can handle a good bit of power.

It hits 0-60 in 4.7 even in FWD form, this car would probably gain very little with AWD unless you were gonna take it on some snow or sand dunes etc...

Hey MotorWeek, could we get an longer exhaust clip (like at 2:33) in these reviews without any voice over or music overlay for a few seconds longer? I believe it would improve the quality and entertainment of an already great platform.

I had apprehensions before buying one but not since taking delivery last July. It's an incredible experience to get something close to supercar performance in a MINI for that price. What he didn't say (or test) is that they removed the speed governor on the car - and estimate the top speed at 165 mph - but I have already seen owners have it up to 176 or more on the German highways (unmodified). Its time on the Nurburgring is under 8 minutes and not far off the record for front-wheel drive cars. Unfortunately, all 3,000 for the world (500 for the US) have been sold but a few can still be found out there with low initial mileage.

@wpittock 3 ай бұрын
@@Joe-eg7ml Very well. Mileage in the 20-30k range now. Drove it across Canada and the US last summer and doing the same this July. No reliability or unexpected maintenance issues. I had a front end scrape damaging the plastic grill only on the road last summer - expensive to replace but otherwise car is in "brand new" condition. I did a full body film wrap and that's held up perfectly.

No manual because they would have to redesign the manual trans for only 3000 units. The manual S and JCW variants have trans input shafts that are too tiny to take the power. This is coming from a F56 owner making more power than this GP

Yes, they are not functional in terms of aero but they do allow a wider track and wider tires, the real intention of doing them so that MINI could keep the F56 body without modification.

@captainchaos0666
@captainchaos0666 2 жыл бұрын
Your point? We've come a long way since FWD was first conceived. Sure FWD isn't as fun as RWD, but top race teams use cars with "wrong wheel drive". Said race teams also have impressive track numbers to prove that it comes down to driver skill rather than drivetrain layout. You can have all the HP, RWD and an manual trans and it still won't make a crap driver any good on the road. Chill, boomer.

As the owner of a '69 Cooper S, I have no idea how anyone can call these cars Minis.
@martinscocan5221
@martinscocan5221 3 жыл бұрын
Easy, it's not 1969 any more, look at the size of 1970's Corollas, Civics, Accords and look at them now.... the new Mini's are small compared to todays vehicles, even more so when you see all the huge SUV's and trucks on the road today!! Have the same car as you but 2019 and very happy with it. Small (for today's standards), fun, fast and still have some comforts, decent ride, decent noise level and if I get hit by some of the huge things on the road today I have some chance of surviving so very happy with the compromise. Also live in Canada so having heated seats, steering wheel, windshield and lots of nice features is a real plus. Wouldn't want to be driving a 69 Cooper unless it was a summer weekend toy.
