I bought my Ti, series 5 in August for $72k new and you can't get the grin off my face. I love the design and don't know what all the BS is about the dash - it looks better than my mates 200's dash, that's for sure. We've just got back from a 4500k trip to the Gulf and it would have to be the smoothest, quietest and most responsive car I've driven. On two occasions on the trip we drove through cold rain - the computer read 10.3L/100 until the rain stopped and the temperature climbed. The worst we got was 13.8 and for 90% of the trip it was 11.1L/100. We ran on 98 but I can't say if the economy was any better than 95 and because I didn't thrash the car I didn't detect any drop in power. All this was done with the car half full of camping gear and a James Baroud camper on the roof. For all you guys who've had the LandCruiser injection, I'd advise you go and drive a 62 with your eyes open and be totally honest. Just admit - this car is that little bit better than a LC200!

Nice to see some love for the Y62 Patrol, been pretty thin on the ground for the last 10 years. I bought the Ti a couple of years ago. I couldn't see the value in the extras you get with the Ti-L. Personally, at around $75k driveaway real world pricing, I reckon the Ti is the best value family vehicle on sale in Australia. Go anywhere, anytime and take all your toys with you. Mines been across the country and tows a 2.5ton van with ease. 1000km days no problem. It's also been used for proper off-roading from Southwest WA to Tassie. Yes there are some faults, the interior is a bit crap and the nanny state electronics give me the shits, but if you want a car that can do anything and everything pretty well, then there's no going past a Patrol.
@martinsanna50023 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. And not forgetting the current model Ti gets safety upgrades that were only on the previous generation Ti-L. Save that coin and spend it on fuel. :-)

I think depends of the usage of the car. If you're doing off roading, towing etc you would get the Ti and save the cash for all the mods and fuel, but if you do half or more metro driving, then you'd pay the extra for the looks, the luxury amenities, and slightly better comfort.

Good review. I have seen a tow test between this and the Diesel LC200 taking a full size van up to the top of Hotham. Dollars per KM the Nissan was lower. Factor in the service and maintenance Diesel over Petrol (Turbos, what turbos?) and the story gets better, and as others have pointed out, $30k gets you plenty of fuel. Around the city, it is going to be expensive to run, but if I was buying one it wouldn't be for that. If I needed a new towing and touring car to lap Australia tomorrow, I reckon it would have to be the Nissan. The negative was the third row space and the seats not going completely flat. A reference for what good looks like for third row and seat stowage is the Land Rover Discovery 4 from ~2010 onwards, the best I have seen in my humble opinion.
@JamesZJi2 жыл бұрын
Patrol 3rd row was a negative? have you even tried a LC200? the LC200 3rd row folds to the side, which is a disaster. After they are folded, the width of the trunk wouldn`t even fit two travel cases. the space becomes useless.

I’m currently in a 2014, 200 series cruiser, love the product, can’t fault it other than the typical diesel rattling sound, nevertheless.. i do love it. So I drove a 2018 Patrol just recently and it seriously astounded me.. so smooth and quite, yet with an amazing tough sounding tune under the bonnet when putting the boot into it.. it’s quite a unique driving feel as appose to the Toyota. Patrol sounds a bit like old school.. And yes I did find the trim slightly dated, but you know, it’s so luxurious that you tend to forget about that dated look. Besides, in my opinion, it’s more less problematic as appose to all the higher tech stuff that sometimes a more prone to twitches. I am buying a patrol simply because its the heaviest SUV around at almost 3 tonne. I checked out some others in the 2,000-2350kg range and they are just too light in their quest for fuel economy although a lot of them are bloody nice inside for a cheap price like the 2021 ssangyong rexton. If you search 'vehicle weight crash' you can see what two 5 star rated cars hitting each other when one is 500kg heavier is like. Not pretty for the lighter vehicle. Also monash uni do real crash statistics to show which vehicles are safe and the correlation between weight and injuries/fatalities is very shocking. So simply for the safety of a huge, high, long and heavy vehicle in protecting my family if we ever happen to be involved in an accident. Its worth it for me. Add some air bags and a few other functional goodies and done. Cant wait. Had it for 2.5 weeks. Fuel use with a heavy foot around town is 20l per 100km. Realistically i will never get much better because I love the engine. If driven like a granny on a Sunday then 15l/100km is achievable. But a 3t 4wd is always going to like a drink when asked to stop start. Bothers me not. The best vehicle I've ever owned or driven hands down. Towing 2.8t approx getting 22l per 100km driving at the speed limit. Thats identical to what I got towing the same van with the 200 diesel. So fuel use issue is case closed. Definitely Patrol over LC200 any day, the old argument around the lack of diesel option is irrelevant these days because Toyota's diesel technology hasn't improved, they are problematic and not as efficient as everyone think. When towing, fuel consumption between the two are almost dead set the same, and around town Patrol might consume a tad more, but all the upfront savings from the purchasing cost (we're talking $30k min. top spec vs. top spec), and the lower average fuel cost of petrol vs. diesel means whatever people think about the value proposition for Toyota having a diesel will never stack up. End of the day in my opinion, Toyota LC200 may be as good a car but it is definitely not worth the price tag they are asking for, and that is fundamentally my problem.

@edgarchieng21303 жыл бұрын
@@emergingit it's all inline with the actual upfront cost of the vehicle. The depreciation % when it comes to resale are almost similar with all the research I've done (Patrol sells for much lower because they are $30k cheaper than LC200 in the first place brand new!). There're a fair few used LC200 asking for high prices as some sellers are keen to push up the depreciation floor but you can clearly see them listing for a long time and not selling, after which they ended up keeping the car because they don't get to sell at the price they wanted, and then re-listing them again 6-8 months later. I've had family members and friends who did exactly just that because they refused to let go of the car at what the market desires because they strongly believed in the perception that their cars should depreciate less, and the fact that they have paid way too much upfront. You will find the occasional buyer who would pay high price for used ones and those are the ones who continued to keep that "Land Cruiser holds better resale value" hope perception going. Again end of the day both are great cars, but I just truly can't justify the $30k+ extra cost on LC200, for a less better packaged car (i.e. lack of foot room on second row where you can't tuck you feet underneath front seats, third row is tight even for kids, third row fold-away remains a 40 year-old design and taking up unnecessary space, small boot space with third row up, thirsty, old and underperforming diesel and the list goes on.

Does the updated interior overseas cost more to produce? Doubt it, just mass produce the new one. 👍🏼 Still a good buy in comparison to Toyota.

@michaeltheodorakis94732 жыл бұрын
@@jean-louishamid5285 absolutely. A four hour drive with no stopping and I get out refreshed with no aches from pressure points. Especially comfortable for bigger humans. I have done 3 Canberra to Sydney trips in the last seven days with a half hour stop before returning and at the of 7 or so hours in the car I’m still refreshed.

Only thing stopping me buying one is the crappy paintwork, flaking off, chips galore and been happening since 2013. Can’t believe Nissan havnt resolved this problem. Great colours but the main colour is coming away from the primer. There’s even a face book page on the problem with plenty of pictures. Common Nissan fix the issue so I can get one of these beasts in my garage but I’m not willing to drop 70k plus on some thing that’s going to need a respray

The look is still outdated here in Australia while the USA and around the world the interior is different, we don't have many cars here and they are all very expensive because we still use the right steering wheel For Land Cruiser there is a 5.7 liter V8 with the body bag, and we also don't have it here in Australia

DEFINITELY buy it over Diesel Landcruiser. Diesel is great when new. Long term petrol for me. No DPF, EGR, Decoke, and not the $8,000 cost end of the injectors if I get a bad batch of fuel. I like it.

I really want to buy this suv, but i told the dealership near my place to inform me when the updated interior is available here. The decision for not making the updated interior available for everyone at the same time is a very bad decision. Nissan is losing potential buyers because of this. I personally know 3 friends who decided to go for Landcruser because the interior of patrol is not yet updated here in the Philippines.

I'm just trading my 19 year old (4.8 litre Petrol, 24 valve, naturally aspirated donk) Patrol in (300K-Sand-dirt and highway, plus 400 tons on building materials!), for a Y62. This will be my 6th 4WD since 1988, and all but one were Patrols. The 1991 4WD that I had was the Barn door Land Cruiser. Had no cash but went for this and regretted it from day-one. Drove like a cement truck, and the brakes took 2 km to warm up. Wouldn't be a problem other than my old house was on a main road, so leaving for work was interesting. Another 2 patrols and into the one I'm trading. In defence of the Land Cruiser, I once drove a Diesel Patrol and that was crap too. The 2002 I've had forever is very powerful but it takes 2 seconds to blast off, although the computer is better than the models soon after this version. Nissan have always had drivability and power first, although, best to take some spares as Toyota parts are everywhere. (and split rims). And PS, everyone reviewing is complaining about the lack of touch screens and tech, that is, until they all blow up. Give me knobs and stuff that works without the aid of some high-tech, satellite enabled online help desk!
