funnily enough i watched a show that used to air on bbc in the 60’s with my nan and grandad yesterday, and it was mind numbing. there was an 10 minute segment on flamenco dancers clapping.10 minutes. but people watched it, because there wasn’t much else to watch with there only being 2 channels. i bet that’s how the north koreans feel, the ones rich and favoured enough to have a tv are subjected to propaganda and weird broadcasts, but it’s all they’ve ever known and there isn’t much choice (that is legal, that is)

As a musician, this was hard to watch. It was easy to get lulled by the performance, until something visually dissonant would break the illusion. The people of Romania are to be congratulated on how they got rid of that monster Ceausescu and his wife. Best Christmas Day ever for Romania! I remember seeing on TV news here in distant Australia how the people publicly humiliated Ceausescu, and I remember feeling excited and hoping that it wouldn't result in one dictator just being replaced by another. If only the people of North Korea could see that news footage of how the ordinary people of Romania brought down their oppressor, causing him to retreat with a complete loss of face.
@psihozefir
@psihozefir 3 жыл бұрын
@@willpugh-calotte2199 there is also another lesson to be learnt from our experience. Ceausescu was followed by one of his friends, Ion Iliescu, that betrayed him to grab the power. He ruled for 8 years with declaring that we will implement "an original democracy". Even though the successor of the Communist Party was very high in the prefferences of voters (don't ask why), we started having other political parties and eventually one of them gave us a good president, but in Parliment the successor party almost always had majority (28 out of 30 years, until last year in November). At that time, Ceausescu and USSR were not in the best relations, with Ceausescu hating the new USSR glasnost and perestroyka policies. Iliescu went to the USSR embassy to request troups to invade Romania, to annex it to USSR (he wanted to make a sort of EU out of USSR). However, he was refused by Gorbachev (the then president of the USSR, who wanted to put USSR on a way to democracy and give the soviet republics the option to be independent, if they so wish). This refusal was Romania's blind luck. The same should happen with North Korea and China. Until China supports the Kims nothing good will happen to North Korea, even if Kim Jong Un dies. He will be replaced by some other China puppet ruler. Also, China becoming the most powerful economy of the World does not help North Korea in any way. This is my view on this situation.

It’s so strange to see them all applaud one man, that he hold such power. They could all jump him, but nobody would dare to think such a thought. And how is it that he never thinks “ what am I doing?” “This is not good”. Never thinks that when he wakes up or go to sleep. While I had countless sleepless nights thinking of things I could’ve done better. I could never sit through a performance like this, I would get so sleepy. And not to mention totally disturbed by the way people do this for me.

just think, the money poured into these celebrations, the money and time spent training these singers, the money all received through backbreaking work. all of that money could have helped thousands of north koreans, but instead it was to celebrate something worthless.

like most Entertainment worldwide. Hollywood is propaganda, same as this. the difference is they're obscenely paid .. money that could supply 10 families w/a lifetime of housing & food goes to a self absorbed wack job who acts or throws a ball. it's a distraction from our debt slavery. NK know it's fake. how many free people see the deception??

Hollywood would never have been able to do this production, it would have cost them too much. The costs would have been prohibitive. They would have had to hire all these people at union scale, and the clothing and instruments would cost a fortune.

I found it pretty ironic considering you can't find a much more quintessentially American instrument than the electric guitar: invented by an American, popularized by black jazz artists, and one of the primary sounds of 60s/70s counterculture. Talk about cognitive dissonance.
