Being invited by Triumph, you've made the big time! People are going to bang on about comparing it with the CB650R and the MT07 but the GSX-S750 is currently selling at £7,249. Having test ridden the GSX-S750 with its 112bhp it's the bike I'd buy right now.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 3 жыл бұрын
Technically that bike isn't in the same sector. All the other bikes are under 95bhp and can be A2 restricted. Personally, I can't stand the looks of the Suzuki naked range other than the SV which looks pretty cool.

Good point. GSX-S750 it's a rock-solid bike. And as long as it is around 7k price point it should be counted as a competitor.

@@StereotypedFilms It's RELIABLE (caps on purpose), has more than enough power and torque for the street, and traction control. What is lacking there, cause i see mostly pros ? No TFT ? Look at the road. I wouldn't even look at Trident if i was to buy a naked around that price. Looks are subjective, therefore not an argument in any discussion.

Wow - an invite to the press launch of the most talked about bike of the year! Testament to your excellent work on KZfaq! I don't know why but I can't get excited about this bike yet. we are so spoiled for having such good options for "affordable" bikes "begginer" bikes. As a hardcore daily biker of a 300cc scooter and a sv650 2005 (with b1200 and cb500 as background) i feel this "begginer" motors are incredibly fast for average biker and faster than you will ever need on public roads if you value your life. If i was going to buy a new bike, i would go crazy with so many options. Trident, hornet, mt07, sv650, suzuki 8s....i think i would close my eyes and choose even though my heart tends to the sv650, i bike i can work on with my eyes closed

I'd by the Triump but the cb650r has 4 pot radial mounted calipers. I hate the 2 pot sliding on the triumph. They stick and bind over time. There's no place for them on this level of bike. Even the cheaper suzuki sv has 4 pots. Even the ladies z650 I believe. . The CB is technically better but the inline 4 lacks character of the triple and twins of its rivals.

Great review Dan, excellent quality. At 56, In September I decided I wanted motorbike so within 6 weeks I managed to take all the tests and so close to buying the XSR700 Tribute when our second lockdown happened in the UK and all of the shops closed. A day later Triumph launched this and has completely blown me away. I've lost track of how many videos of motorbikes I've watched over the last 6 weeks! I'm surprised more test riders don't compare the Trident to the XSR700, to which I think it looks closer too, than the MT07? I'm 6 foot tall with a 30 inch inside leg measurement (so not long legs) and 16 stone. So I hope the Trident would be ok for me? I have a deposit on one and can't wait to try it.
@Tybward
@Tybward 3 жыл бұрын
I’m in the exact same boat. I had my eyes set on the XSR for nearly 6 months until this came out. Now I think I have shifted my eyes to purchase the trident instead. The only let down for me is that I absolutely love the exhaust sound of the XSR with an after market pipe.
@stevebeeston8749
@stevebeeston8749 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tybward I'm not so bothered about that as you can hardly hear it when you've got your helmet on. The only other thing is that you can guarantee that they will be bringing out a Euro 5 compliant version of the XSR700 at some point next year? It might still not have the features of the Trident though as the MT07 didn't have anything new on it.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers! While I agree in terms of looks it is closer to the XSR, the MT07 is the King of the middleweight nakeds at the moment and that's what the Trident is going for. I can't say about anyone's height other than my own as we are all different shapes and sizes. However there were taller people on the launch and I don't remember them saying anything negative about the riding comfort or position.

I have to say, this is the first review of Trident where the camera has a nice position and I can see the speed and gear you are in. I was wondering if anyone will show 1st gear challenge, but unfortunately not. I see 2nd gear goes up to 90km/h (~56mph) and 3rd gear up to ~120km/h (~75mph). If this torque is really as good as they say at low rpm...it may be a decent city commuter. But that throttle lag slightly worries me, a few people already mentioned it.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 3 жыл бұрын
Apparently the throttle lag is to make it friendly for new riders. It's only down low that I noticed it and when you get going it was a lot better. Still, I would have like the option of a 'sport' mode to reduce it.

@@Englishbikerdan Lets say you are in 2nd gear, cruising with traffic ~10-15mph. You see a gap cage man left you and you want to swiftly just wrummm, jump in before he will understand what's happened. Will that lag throttle kick in? Will your acceleration be affected?

Thank you for a visually stunning and interesting review. My only criticism is that you mention the riding position/comfort of your legs and reach to the ground - useful only to anyone of the same height (whatever that is))

Great review and the best looking, most watchable video I seen so far from this launch. This video also seems to showcase the sound of that triple better than the others I've seen. After this review I'm starting to like the look of the black version best. BTW....what is that helmet?

As a CB650R owner, I am looking forward to your comparison video between the Trident and the CB650R. I am having a thought of getting the Trident when it is available in my country next year. I have never own a triple before and I love the sound of Inline 4, so it will be a hard decision. I decided to put an Akrapovic Racing Line Titan Carbon tip without the DB killer on my CB650R after watching your review video a year ago!

Great review. Bye the way I think "micro-climates" are one of the reasons why I enjoy riding although looking at the moisture on your tires at the end of the video I can say that rain is a micro-climate I can do without (especially if it's accompanied by lightning).

I'll admit, when it was first shown off I didn't like the look of it but to be completely honest it's actually growing on me. That being said the engine doesn't sound as good as I was hoping, I prefer the more throaty/gurgly sounds, something akin to the MTs.

Nice bike, going to steal a lot of sales away from the MT07. When you add the quick shifter option it gets very very close to the price of a 790 Duke though (£7,500 brand new currently) .. and that offers a lot more for the money ... but it also stands a fair bit taller than the Trident and has somewhat less conventional styling so certainly wont be everyone's cup of tea. Cracking video, thanks 😉
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 3 жыл бұрын
It's not much more than the price of the other bikes though (MT07, CB650R and Z650). A quickshifter would be an addition in cost on all of those bikes. Yes, the 790 Duke is very cheap right now and it's a hoot to ride. Don't forget the 10,000 mile service intervals though for the Trident. Cheapest in class for servicing apparently. Thanks for watching!

I don't think it was as it did it at the hotel too. It seems to be a very gentle throttle curve at low rpm so as not to intimidate new riders. This was however a pre-production bike so it may have changed since. I'll be getting a Trident for a few weeks at the end of the month so I'll find out then. Cheers.

THIS TRIPLE IS VERY TEMPTING. I NEED ADVICE ON WHICH TO GET LOL. They cost the exact same in Canada so price is not a factor! What do you think? More grunt down low wit hthe Triumph, or More powert up high with the CB? Help me make up my mind!

That's a nice bike, nice place and nice review. It's a shame this is not a very affordable bike in my country. I have a question though, why don't you blip during downshifts? I feel its a little harsh on the bike, even with an assited (Im assuming) clutch. Take care!!
