Why do you think revised versions of old cars like that are still being made? Because the community loved the old ones and supported both the company and the product. They better pay homage to what came before, because without it, the new version wouldn’t exist. A huge part of how these new versions can even remotely exist is purely because people love the old ones.

I agree with you, this is a great car. My dad owned one of the originals back in the '90s and then one of the new ones, in 2017. He made some of the same statements you did, but he loved the fact that he could "daily drive" this car and you CANNOT do that with some of the supercars out now. The NSX is fast, and it was a ton of fun to ride in. Unfortunately, dad passed in 2020 and, since I can't drive, I don't think I'll be riding in one again any time soon, sadly. If my dad were still here I think he would agree with you about the infotainment system, but he was technology challened, but he didn't buy it for the infotainment, he bought it to drive it! RIP Pop!

Sadly, I don't have either one. As for learning how to drive, until they let blind guys drive it is not going to be a possibility. Of the two that he owned, I would rather have the 2017 model. Having said all of this, and reading all the comments, I would still much rather own this car than any of the other super cars that are out on the market now. I think the quality is a lot higher, from what my dad explained to me I would think that the drivability is also a lot better.

To be honest, I felt like no one gave this car the respect it deserved, and so it felt like the supercar just for me. My family owned an old Acura and every time we went in for servicing I always checked out the NSX in the showroom. I love the looks, I love the technology working behind the scenes, and I loved its message. I would root for it in GT3 races and choose it every racing game. Although I'm sad to see it end its production, I'm happy that it existed and that Acura cared enough to make the type s. It'll still occupy the top of my favorite car list, and I hope that the stars will align, and I can drive it one day!

I'm sure you're right Doug. Just like the original Nsx, they hardly flew off the shelves when it was in production. The original NSX sold about 1200 units per year. The new one sold about 280 per year. On average. The original was subjectively good looking but certainly a simple elegant bargain. The new one I don't think looks as good, its also complicated and expensive. I think the thing that heard it most was the fact that it's just ugly. I know that's an opinion but I think that's an opinion shared by most would be buyers.
@acidgolem2132

@CalvinHikes the problem with the new nsx is that it does pretty much the same thing as what the original nsx in an era where nobody care about it anymore. The original nsx isn't even that good looking COMPARE TO IT'S COMPETITION back then, it was not fast compare to the competition back then but it offer reliability and comfortability that other supper car of the same era does not which make it as famous as it's currently. The new nsx pretty much does the same thing as it's predecessor but in an age where most supper car are already comfortable to ride, it doesn't really stand out as much. Also if we adjust for inflation, the new gen nsx is price on the same range at the old one so it's not even cheaper

I’ll never understand why people complain about the performance. It is literally faster to 60mph than an Aventador, 488, Huracan, GTR, or R8 V10. It costs around the same as a 992 Carrera 4S which is significantly slower to 60, slower over a quarter mile, and comparable in lap time (at worst) on any track. A 2017 NSX has the straight line performance comparable to a new $380,000 Lambo Aventador for half the price, how is that poor performance or value?

Honestly I won't ever understand the hate. I love the OG NSX but I can't see why this car has so much controversy just because it doesn't have a manual or less analog feel. There's probably a few reasons why that had to be like maybe they couldn't find a reliable manual gearbox that can handle the power and for the less analog feel, you have to remember that we can't always dwell in the past. Amazing styling? Obviously this is subjective, but styling is the primary reason these don't sell. I've seen one in person, and it just doesn't look "$200k", maybe half that at most. Certainly not "beautiful" like so many of the italian competitors are. Aside from not looking that good, it's also just not interesting to look at. Quick glance and walked on, no pictures.

I've always loved the styling of this car, and the specs are great, but my preference is an analog feel to a sports car. Though this will undoubtedly be worth a ton someday, Acura missed the mark on what their customer base truly desired. (Just like with the new "Integra.")

I've had an R8, AMG GT, AMG GTS, SL65 AMG, POSCHE 911 and a C7 z06 and now I've owned the 2nd Gen NSX for couple of months now. I agree that the interior infotainment system is really outdated even more than the 2016 AMG GT that I've owned, however if you use android auto or apple carplay its not that bad since most people use one or the other anyway. Hate it or Love if I compare this to all the other sports cars i've owned the NSX by far attracts the most attention. Every time I'm on the road I see people snapping pictures and videos especially by people of my generation (mid 30s to upper 50's). I concur with Doug, I think these cars are great, I just think they pulled a "horizon zero dawn" and released the new NSX during a flurry of supercar buzz, what with the huracan being new at the time, I believe an updated 488 was coming, and mclaren was really getting ramped up at the time prior to the 720. That, and we were still all particularly incensed about hybrid/electric stuff still. FWIW, I don't think this car disrespects it's legacy at all, and I'm a honda guy. The original NSX is hailed as an incredible analogue driver's experience, which it is, but that's only from the relative viewpoint of our power-everything crossover world today. Back when the NSX was new, it probably seemed like just as much of a spaceship, computer-on-wheels type car as this one seems to us. Hell, NSX stands for "New Sportscar, eXperimental." So we know they weren't going for something traditional. I think the legacy of the car is exactly experimentation with technology.

The NSX is supposed to be the "new sportscar experimental." making a tribute car would not have lived up to the name. I think a tribute definitely would have been better received, but it's not true to the brand like what they built is.
@Biwa_Hayahide
@Biwa_Hayahide 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. The purpose of the nsx is innovation and experimentation. It did so at the time of the original nsx and by just doing the same thing again it wouldn’t have lived up to its namesake. If people got what they “wanted” which is a old school an engine with a manual transmission then there wouldn’t be anything new or experimental about the car. It would just be old and traditional. Times have changed and so has technology. Many of the vocal car enthusiast on the internet seem to be stuck in the past and anything new or innovative is heresy and dogma. It’s odd because tech enthusiasts on the other hand are fanatic about the bleeding edge and rarely would you have someone wish they made computers like the amigas or commodores of the 80s. I like the new nsx and I do think the price was a bit much. But I am also able to understand that Honda was trying to bring technology seen in 700k+ supercars downstream and down market. As others have stated, I think it was a combination of price plus legacy that smothered this car from the outset. The Grand Tour review was fairly telling when, despite the tech and cost, it was basically on par with the R35 GTR, which obviously isn't anything to scoff at, but when you factor in that the NSX also costs around $40-50K more, it becomes a difficult sell. Then there's the legacy aspect, the first gen NSX was a simple driver's car that focused on being "budget friendly" with racing pedigree to boot, as opposed to a hybrid supercar which made it seem overtly complex and that Honda was caught chasing trends instead of doing their own thing as they did with the first gen.

@@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA The problem is, that the NSX isn't comparable to Italian and German supercars. A person who wants an exotic supercar isn't even going to consider a Honda or "Acura", they're going to go for a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Porsche etc. So that leaves things like the GT-R as an actual competitor. And for somebody who isn't simply after an exotic supercar, things like handling, performance, value for money, tuneability etc, is going to be more important than whether or not it "should" be compared to exotics.

If I remember correctly, they had 2 NSX’s that were languishing on the showroom for like 18 months. This was around Dallas so it’s not like it was a small market and they were even being heavily discounted. It’s such a shame as they were amazing cars. It was the same way with Mk 4 Supras. I’m old enough to remember a local Toyota dealer having like 3 of them on the lot. My Nissan dealer had a beautiful green final year 1996 300ZX TT they didn’t actually move until 1999.

Same for the price, everybody complained that it was too expensive and that for the money you could get a 911. Well now it's the same for the current one.

I'm also old enough to remember the 90's, playing Gran Turismo and being a huge fan of all these Japanese performance cars. I always wanted to see an NSX in real life but no dealer had one over here. The car was super expensive and nobody talked about it. You could basically only get it if you asked for it and ordered one. That makes it a very special car in my book and that's why it deserves that high price tag now.

Hey Doug, This is the homologated version of their IMSA GT3 race car buddy. Twin Turbo/ AWD/ Carbon ceramic brakes/ torque vector ready for track days! Driver's of the TYPE-S are tapping the paddles and banging thru the gears in Track mode, pushing the AWD to the edge of envelope and NOT paying attention to the stereo UI, low-res back-up cam or GPS avatar. Just connect via bluetooth + USB Audio Pro App and voila - voice control infotainment and App that handles even FLAC and ALAC files. Drive the damn thing!

That's why the NSX sucks: Made in USA. The interior is total trash, with hard plastic everywhere. If it's the everyday supercar, why are the everyday items so terrible? Confusing climate controls, hard-to-reach USB ports, 1990s navigation system and backup camera, missing integrated cup holders, and no driver assist technologies. This car is a joke. I think the NSX is a perfect example of what honda and Acura have always represented. Their trademark practical, reliable, daily drivers. If you have ever owned old and new ones this is no exception. They've also been great about listening to the community and making real changes based on feedback. (To a fault even, look at the 11th gen civic 🤮) Just saying, I would buy this if I had a cool 200k sitting around. I'd venture to bet cost-of-owning would also be MUCH lower compared to other cars in its class.

They probably would have sold a lot more if the new NSX was like this from the start. It always fell right in that grey area of sport/super cars where it was too expensive for an average joe to buy, but it wasn't fancy or sport enough for the big spenders to want to invest in (not to mention it was a super car that actually depreciated in value). Had they made it like this right from go, it probably would have been more successful.

It guaranteed would have sold a lot more if it followed the original nsx's moniker, super car performance for a fraction of the cost. Quite literally the same as the R35 gtr.... When it started. But now Godzilla has ballooned from a $70k car to over $200k. Which is fuckin ridiculous.

As a former Acura salesman, current and multi Acura owner--my challenge with the car is it looks like other cars to me. The C8 especially. When I see a Porsche, I know it's a Porsche. I agree with Doug that the info system is way out of date. In regard to it going up in value...that I can see. Just look at the original early to mid 90's NSX's. They listed for $65-75K. 10-15 years ago you could've got a nice one with under 50K miles on it for in the $30's...not any more. They are double and triple that from what I've seen. I just with it had a manual transmission. I have paddle shifting now and never use it.

I agree. In 2016 I bought a Honda VFR800F (motorbike) at my local Honda dealer in Duesseldorf - he was and is the biggest Honda dealer in Germany. The then-new NSX was on display there, painted blue. Sorry, but it looked ordinary. Over the months I saw one in red, then one in sort-of-white parked there. They didn't appeal to me. However, my girlfriend really liked the looks. The original NSX looked way better imo and for my part, a sports car for public roads got to have a manual, otherwise it's just a show-off.
