An exciting days racing from the Frittenden raceway. On this, one of the most popular tracks in the country, which always seems to throw up some great racing, and todays event was no different. Mark Cossar/Gareth Williams seemingly unbeatable now the Winterburns have retired, but there are some new exciting crews who have started to push them very hard, and Trevor & Sam Heath are one of those crews. Having some great results already this season, this crew are definitely a crew to keep an eye on. The same has to be said about former Rob Wilson passenger Terry Saunters. Terry has now taken over on the bars and looks to be putting all those years as a top passenger to good use. Already looking like he and passenger Liam Brown will be in the shake-up at the British Masters. There was some fantastic racing in this class, with a superb B Final, and some real drama in the A Final.
The LH Sidecars are looking very strong right now, and as in the RH Sidecars, there are some good new young crews who are right in the mix at every meeting. Most are either sons or grandsons are former riders. Current British Champion Alex Balman, Michael Phillips, Danny & Harry Hill, Jordan & Joe Holland, and obviously all the Penfolds all decendants of former racers, and at this Frittenden track, there's always a good entry. Probably some of the best racing on the day in this class, although it was hard to chose which class put on the best races, as all were so good.
In the 250cc Solo's Cris Still is having one of his best seasons so far, and at the age of 46 is riding better than ever, but he has 2 very fast youngsters to contend with, in the form of Cameron Taylor, and Luke Harris. Luke goes extremely well on his 250, and Cameron looks to have his best days ahead of him, and he will gradually move up through the classes. Lots of other good riders in this class, such as Karl Bedingfield, the fast starting Tim Greig, Russell Little, and 18 years old Jordan Derrick, who has shown some very good progress since moving into adult racing.
Andrew Whitaker and local star Dave Mears look set to do battle in the 350cc Solo's, which is run on a round robin basis. Martin Adams, Ricky Sandford, and Marcus Crutchington will all have their say in the class.
The 500's look like being a real battle for the win, with super fast gater Martyn Sturgeon starting to show some great form, and International star Paul Hurry, who will always give the flying youngsters a run for their money, and he will have to today, as 3 potential future superstars to contend with, in Jake Mulford, Charley Powell, and Arran Butcher, who looked so good at the Masters Qualifier a couple of weeks ago. Also add in Alfie Bowtell, and you've got yourself a tough class to win.
The Upright Solo's sees old rivals Bob Dolman, Rodney McDonald, and Chris Mackett all at the top of the ladder, with a potential spoiler in Jason Prynne also in the mix. Who would come out on top?
Josh Goodwin/Liam Brown should take the win in the 500cc Sidecars, but you never know, and with the Welsh crew of Shaun Hughes/Louis Bennett absolutely flying this year, they could spoil the party, if they can stop pulling wheelies off the start. Paul Whitelam & Richard Webb have made a very good start to their 500cc Sidecar racing, so can only go on improving, and James Hogg/Scott Goodwin, Jake Geering/Luke Russell, Dan Berwick/Mark Hopkins, and Jordan Smith/Joe Page are all going in the right direction with their racing. The winner should be settled, but the other two podium places look everything apart from settled.
