Just a quick video showing you two ways of making your 2022 BMW X3 M40i stock exhaust much louder. Also, a third mod that compliments the loudness.

I have a 2020 model and my exhaust sounds way better. I believe BMW muted the entire system in the LCI x3m40i. In sports mode, the pre-lci has a very noticeable exhaust rumble and the burbles are awesome. To get the best sound from the 2022+ models, i think a downpipe (catted or catless) is the best way to improve the sounds. Add a tune to adjust the set up and you're good to go😊

I have heard that the pre LCI sounds much better! Just could never compare. It sounds good but yes I agree that a proper down pipe would make it just right. It’s on the list of many things 😅

Is the open valve what makes the pops and bangs? On an '18 m40i. If so, thats too much for me. I like the growl and being a little louder but the pops are too much around town.

The 2022s have less pops and bangs but yes there are more pops. However for me that’s not enough.

Can't seem to unplug the connector with any might I use...dunno if I'm doing it wrong or if I'm supposed to unclip something. I have a 2021 M340i

If I remember there is a tab you have to lift or press to release the connector. You shouldn’t need much force if any.

How do I put it back to normal after putting the valve back in?

After you out the fuse in? Just turn off the car and back on it will go back to normal.

@@LifeofPandK I didn’t touch the fuse just the plug in the left exhaust. I followed ur steps for unplugging it but now when I plug it in. Sport mode is quiet and comfort is loud.

That’s odd behavior. Should reset itself open vs close.

When starting the car does the car need to be in sport or sport plus?

Sport plus will have the valves wide open then you can remove fuse or disconnect

No I out the fuse back on. Call it getting older but I like adjusting the sound via the valve. 😂

You realize that is a heat shield, and pushing that wire into it will possibly melt that wire away eventually. Best bet is to zip tie it. Just food for thought

Not sure how you are looking at this but the wire is literally plugged in the valve that’s part of the exhaust and now it’s tucked behind the heat shield.

The difference would be mainly in the modes because the flaps stay open all the time now.

@@LifeofPandK thanks, it does make a slight difference. A few months ago I did the fuse method and couldn’t tell the difference and may have caused and electrical issues with my comfort access lol. This method was super easy and I used some electrical tape to cover the connectors and made things neater.

Having the valve open all the time will annoy you. I installed the CG Precision valve controller on my 22'. With CG precision downpipe lots of burble on overrun with the valve open

I plan on eventually getting a catted downpipe which should free up some more noise and I think I will be happy then with the sound but for now it works.

@inasntkobe how long has it been since you got the catted CG downpipe? Any CEL? I see their site shows they have thousands of km/miles with no CEL. I’m debating between that and the active autowerkes catted DP. I run the evolution Racewerks catted one and have CEL on my ‘23 and just waiting/hoping some company in the US can do the DME unlock for tuning so I’d like to switch DPs to get rid of the CEL for now for peace of mind.

i get im late to this review but did you not see that you can remove the fuse for the exhaust flaps? so you turn the car to sport mode go to the back of the car and remove the fuse for the exhaust flaps leaving them open. The fuse is located in the rear tailgate area on the right passenger side. then you do not have a hanging plug that ends up getting rusted. YOU DO NOT NEED CODING AND YOU DO NOT GET ANY CODES PLEASE UNDERSTAND ITS SO MUCH EASIER THAN THIS VIDEO ITS LITERALLY A 10 AMP FUSE.

Yeah I pointed how to do it and behind what panel the fuse box is located to remove it but didn’t do it on video. Both are ways that work it just depends what you want to do. It’s still not clear what the fuse controls. On some forums they mention that it controls other things other than just the exhaust flaps.

It’s not fully proven but a person was digging around deeper and he was able to find some parameters being controlled by the fuse. If I recall nothing critical but some support systems.

Not sure on the schematics but if the fuse controls the same module it should.

@@kerplunk38880 I've run open valves on almost every sports car I've owned and my butt dyno + race box have never detected an actual change. Usually it's the sound difference that skews it because more noise = more expectation of speed and vice versa. At these power levels, I'm not convinced by the back pressure argument.

I know how it feels to be desperate for attention. I've tried everything, too. Recently scored a cherry Toyota Corolla - 2003. Straight-piped and totally pimped it. The babes have taken note. And, quite a few dudes. Hoping to sew some wild oats. I'll keep the community posted on any success.
