One thing Matt was so good at was sprinkling in questions and reactions that would prompt Ian to explain the *why* behind the numbers. And because Ian and Mike are such experts that they don’t need anyone to explain anything to them, you realize that what’s missing is the guy who was effectively the stand-in for the audience, sharing what he sees and feels and asking why. An understandable adjustment. I have faith they’ll figure out how to navigate this change and start to dig deeper.

Callaway engineer here, awesome test/review but I wanted to add one thing. The lefty sleeve on a right handed driver won’t allow you to get -2 loft from standard. I’m assuming you were using the lefty +2 setting which is effectively the same as a righty -1 setting. Might explain the higher launch/spin you were getting compared to expectations. Also kudos for picking up on the rounder bulge on the TD model compared to Max LS. That combined with the improvements in inertia tightened up the dispersion for off center hits on the tour models. Cheers!
@PixlPutterMan
@PixlPutterMan 2 жыл бұрын
That doesnt align with what a few reps have told me, I was told there are 4 loft settings, -2,-1,Standard,+1 and flipped lefty righty you still get -2 at the +1 setting, Standard becomes your -1, and so on..... I have not seen a +2 setting on a Callaway sleeve before. Are you saying then that flipped, -2 is now a +2 and not a +1?

@@PixlPutterMan There are 4 loft settings on the standard ifit sleeve whether it be right or left, -1, S, +1, and +2. Here's a table for what settings equal what if you are using a mismatched handed sleeve: +2 on the sleeve = -1 setting for the club +1 on the sleeve = S setting for the club S on the sleeve = +1 setting for the club -1 on the sleeve = +2 setting for the club The only way you can get a true -2 setting is using a special strong sleeve that we don't offer commercially.

The Max LS is the driver I’m looking at for this year. So consistent with ball speeds across the face and consistency in distance and dispersion. The TM is getting all the hype but the Max LS is very close in ball speeds and distance and wayyy more consistent and forgiving in a lot of the reviews that have come out. TM has a few hits that go wayyy out there but too many that go right, left and short, where the Callaway seems to have a tight grouping.

This video feels like a new chapter in TXG. Looking forward to it. One thought for videos: Given we are all tech junkies, can you put the club specs (loft, shaft, settings, etc.) that are tested/compared in each video in the video description? Then we don't have to go back through to find the mentions of it in the videos (which sometimes you forget to do, but we almost always ask anyway).

Congrats on the merger with club champion and the opportunities it opens up for TXG. One suggestion on future videos, would a 'fitting 101' series be a possibility? Basically a one stop library for a golfer considering custom fitting so they understand what effects the well known options have on the shot eg stiffness, shaft weight and some of the lesser known effects like deflection etc and what the "ideal" metrics are for a given club at different speeds? Appreciate this might be overkill but it might be worth it so the customer has a greater understanding before they arrive and can give clearer feedback to the fitter than it does/doesn't feel good.

At Ian's swing speed, it's hard to make large distinctions between clubs. But someone swinging it at 95mph might see a significant difference. Ian's trying to squeeze out a few more yards; the average player is trying to keep it on the course somewhere.

You can get a Triple Diamond from Callaway online. I already have the new Max LS in the bag. I pre-ordered it and Callaway sent it out early. I decided I didn't like the swing weight, so I put a heavier grip on it. The guy in the pro shop was stunned that I had one already. I just smiled and he said, "Hey, I don't want to know." I tried to explain that I don't have any connections at Callaway; I just ordered it early and paid for overnight shipping (that took 3 days because of customs). Hit it today without my launch monitor working, but it seems longer than my Titleist TSi3, but if it is, it will be due to roll, not carry, because of the lower spin.

Other KZfaq golfers who do reviews & testing are showing that Stealth is longer but not as consistent as the Rogue Max & Max LS on off center strikes. That’s another video you can do as well but with Mikey as the tester on both videos. He’s more like the most of us. My only suggestion is to use the range vs. a course so the ground is flat for all club tests. Otherwise too many other factors are involved when the ball lands (height, slope etc) to compare Apples to Apples. I'm biased because I like to compare your numbers to mine. :) Great review otherwise. I am surprised to see the Triple diamond is slower in club speed. I thought the smaller head would make it a little faster.

Hey, Ian. Love your channel. How are you getting almost 300 carry with only 160 ball? No matter what driver I have hit, SIM2, MAV, RAD, EF SUB etc, on my Skytak with my optimal #s at 13-15 launch and 2400-2500 spin I am always almost dead on 280 carry at 160 ball. From my experience, watching PGA #s on tv and you and Matty specifically, it seems that usually it takes at least mid to upper 160s to get that kind of carry. Did you guys turn on the down wind setting, lol? Just messing with you...but I am curious. Keep up the great content. Some day I'm coming up there for a full fitting from Wisconsin. Been to test centre today and tried the Rogues LS & triple diamond, Cobra ltd & ltd ls, & the stealth, was very close for me between the rogue ls & cobra ltd, but found the Rogue edged it for the dispersion

Any big improvement over the Epic Max LS? I’m waiting to purchase a driver, but I like the weight track on the Epic line.

I thought the same and went with a flash sub zero. Great head. Weight track was helpful to an extent.

Why Callaway decided to remove the "Sub-Zero" moniker I will NEVER know. The name alone made me want to try the products regardless of the tech.

Whats the difference in you delivery? Is your ball speed the same? Upward angle of attack, low (ish) dynamic loft and centred contact are essential.

@@ianfrasergolf ball speed much less, and only swing 1up which is an achievement for me and spin below 2700 is good for me. My big issue is I tend to leave face open.

What’s the head weight of the Max? Looking at building the driver at 44.5” putting in my ACCRA FX 3.0 260M3, but afraid that the head is too light for that build. I don’t want to alter the characteristics with adding weight to the head. Ideas?

How different is GC4 vs. FlightScope? With 160mph ball speed, 13 degrees launch , and 2500 back spin, I get no where close to 295 carry that you guys are showing. It's showing close to 262 yards.

If you play a fairly long course but very tight, what spin rate would you look at? I ask because you mentioned 2100 backspin on a course that isn't penalising
