Thank you for covering the CAPM! I'm glad I took the exam before the changes in 2022. 100% agree with the tip- if you work full time, talk to your employer about the certification and see if they will cover the prep course or exam. I had to pay for the exam, but my company paid for the PMI CAPM prep course!

Thanks for your videos, I just watched most of your videos a couple of days ago, you are really inspiring me. I've two Bachelor's degree mainly in linguistics, and work experience with airlines operations for some reasonable years. First I had the objective to pass PMP certification so I've enrolled in Udemy course to get 35 hours certificate, the courses are based on PMBOK 6TH edition. Then I discovered that I must have PM experience before been eligible for the exam. Here I got confused, I don't know if my experience within the airport is considered as management experience, taking into consideration that I was a operations supervisor. After watching your CAPM video then maybe the answer is to pass CAPM firstly before thinking about PMP exam. I will really appreciate your feedback and thank you for your time and efforts.

Thank you very much for your information in the video Emma. I am currently thinking of taking the CAPM exam, however I only realised on the changes recently. Therefore would like to seek your opinion on below: 1. Would like to see if you would suggest me to start my preparation now and take the exam right before the changes or should I start it after the changes? 2. Do you think employers would prefer one over the other regarding the CAPM certification? If yes, which one do you think they would prefer? 3. If I take the exam before the changes and unfortunately failed it, can I retake the old one or do I have to take the new one? Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Felix, 1. It looks like the exam is changing in early 2023 (www.pmi.org/certifications/certified-associate-capm). You're 6 months away from the new version, that's probably enough time to prep and take the exam if you feel comfortable with that. If not, then you could start working to learn for the new exam and plan to take it in early 2023. 2. I don't think so - my employer (when I took mine several years ago) cared because the latest version included Agile, but I'm not aware that there are that many differences today. Plus, I don't list which version I got certified on, just that I am PMP certified. 3. That's a great question and the answer is: I don't know. I suspect if you fail and they make the changes, you may have to take the new one. Something similar happened to a coworker of mine - they studied for an old version of the PMP, then the exam switched over and they ended up never taking the exam because it was overwhelming. Here's the link to the 2023 CAPM exam info: www.pmi.org/-/media/pmi/documents/public/pdf/certifications/capm20ecofinal.pdf?v=35b5b1ef-d82f-4393-a9fe-99d0f50955f3 I hope that helps! Good luck with your decision!

Hi Filler Name - I would look at jobs you're interested in to see if they mention any PM skills. If they do want some PM skills then it would be complementary, but if not, then I'm not sure how much ROI there would be (other than for general education purposes).

@RecipeforSuccess1
@RecipeforSuccess1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kia - I think it depends on how quickly you plan to take the test. PMI said on their website that they'll give 6 months advance notice before adjusting the exam to the 7th edition. So if you're taking the exam in the next 6 months and committing to that, then get the 6th edition, but if you're not sure, then you may want to wait. Best of luck!

Just graduated with a Bachelor’s and interested in getting in to PM. At my age I don’t want to have to go back to school for a Masters in PM so I’m thinking of going the CAPM route. How much of an advantage do you feel this gives on a resume/ salary difference for beginners in this field ?
@RecipeforSuccess1
@RecipeforSuccess1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley - it's a good question! I think the benefit is both to your resume and your education. Realistically, you'll see that listings don't include the CAPM as much as the PMP, but if you're switching careers I think studying for the exam, understanding the basics of project management and being able to 'talk the talk' is going to really help you in the interviews. That's my personal opinion (of course, not a guarantee), but I hope that helps!

Hello, I'm considering starting up my career in Project management. I do have a Bachelors degree and a masters degree but no prior experience in project management. I have gone through your page and its been helpful. My question are ; 1) Getting a Google cousera certification on project management is it an equivalent for 23 hour PM education? Or all I have to do is to pay for the classes on cousera then take exams for CAPM? 2) what are my chances of getting PM roles in IT industries with an educational background in social sciences? 3) which is more marketable? Project management or product management?
@RecipeforSuccess1
@RecipeforSuccess1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Esther, Thanks for watching! I'm glad it's been helpful! 1) Google says their course is the equivalent to over 100 hours. See here - "Google is an approved member of the Project Management Institute’s Authorized Training Partner Program, which ensures practitioners have access to consistent and high-quality training experiences. Those who complete the Google Project Management Certificate will qualify for over 100 hours of project management education that apply directly to requirements for globally-recognized PMI credentials, like the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® certification, at a discounted price.". If you want to sit for the exam, I would suggest you watch the content and go over the PMI methodology. While Google says their content is based on PMI, the PMI exams cover their own material and methodology, so you'll want to make sure you understand the jargon, etc. 2) It's definitely possible - I don't have a degree in IT and work in technology. I think the trick is finding companies that don't care - some companies do and some companies don't. 3) This one is tough. I don't have enough data on the future of product management to be able to make a call, but PMI has some good info on the future of project management here: www.pmi.org/learning/careers/job-growth Good luck with everything!

Thank you for the video-I'm really enjoying your channel. Question --CAMP or PMP? I'm looking to change from higher ed administration to project management in the business world. I have a bachelor's degree and work in higher education. I do have the PM experience, but at a community college and with an associate dean title. I am still learning the lingo and it is hard for me to judge the best path. I'd love any feedback you can give-I'd also love to send in my resume for you to review (on your channel if you want).

You'll find most job postings want a PMP. The CAPM is primarily for anyone who doesn't have the work experience to be eligible for the PMP. If you have the PM experience, I'd suggest focusing there (again, depending on your goals). If you begin studying and find it's a lot, then maybe consider switching to the CAPM or even working through the google PM course. Feel free to send me your resume!

@@RecipeforSuccess1 Thank you so much for the quick reply! This was helpful--I think I'm undervaluing my experience. It doesn't hurt to take a course for the hours and then apply-if I am wrong and they reject my experience or the content seems overwhelming I could do like you say and jump down to the CAPM. I'm working on my resume now and then I'd love to send it over.

Hello! Thank you for your content! I see similar questions below, but not asked in the way that I am curious about. If I did the google PM cert, would I need to still study the pimbok if I am just going to sit for the CAPM test? What kind of course material would allow my to get the CAPM after I've passed the google cert? I understand the the CAPM is intro vs the PMP. Would I be missing anything for the CAPM if I did the google cert ONLY before taking the CAPM test? I hope this makes sense. Thank you.
@RecipeforSuccess1
@RecipeforSuccess1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Healthy Coder - I generally suggest to anyone to at a minimum READ PMBOK and take a CAPM practice test. While I think the material/ideas are the same (or rooted in the same education), stylistically you might find some of the information to be slightly different (i.e. how questions are worded, jargon, etc). Good luck!
