2022 Choctaw Powwow | Native American Powwow Vlog 38 in Durant Oklahoma.
Awesome celebration! The host tribe was most excellent to all its visitors. The head staff kept an awesome schedule even with a Tornado touching down in the town of Durant.
The singing contest was fire! Lots of Dancers. Was cool to see so many in the southern categories.

I love this video, thank you for sharing. I grew up in Oklahoma until I moved to Texas at 17, lived in many places since then, but Oklahoma will always be my roots. I'm proud that we have such an amazing diverse state that celebrates everyone. Even in my tiny town of less than 2k people we had powwows back in the 90s, and we regularly had Indian Taco fundraisers. Man do I miss those Indian tacos.

My sons mother is a card holding last blood percentage member of the Oklahoma Choctaw tribe. She for some reason doesn’t want to share her heritage with our son. I keep encouraging my son to reach out and explore his ancestry since he is only one generation short. I also have a small percentage of indigenous heritage from canada and have always wished I could visit them.

@@YFNJROC they have a method of determining who is eligible to still be considered part of their culture. My son went this summer and it was determined he in fact does according to their current method. He just needs to go through they’re process and will be a full member of the Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma.
