Ducati has been in the process of changing their adventure bikes to be more "civilized" for the ADV customer.

Just ordered one after three GSs, the last one the 1250 GSA. Loved the test ride and getting no younger with a 29” inside leg it was perfect, lot better looking than the GS too. May ‘only’ have 113hp but the flat torque curve means it’s no slouch. Tried the V4 but the engine felt like overkill and far too expensive and thirsty, at least with the V2 you get to use all the performance on the road. Totally agree with your assertion that it is a sports tourer with comfort not a adventure bike, despite the marketing, that’s what most of us are looking for these days.

What does he mean when he says we need a big bank account? I mean I can barely just affort this bike, and I can save up for the desmo service once every 30,000 kilometers. And I'm not going to be revving the bike up to 10000rpm. So why do I need a big bank account if I have (lets say already been able to afford and buy this). Riding calmly, this burns about 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers as far as I know. And thats the same I used to burn on my 1200GS. So any other hidden expenses?

Just test rode the V2 s this morning here in SoCal. Opinions: The fit and finish on this bike is excellent. The power is very usable but the gearing is high. Sixth gear is useless under 65. You gotta keep the revs up. It’s happy at 4 grand plus. The quick shifter is a hoot. Very good. Decent wind protection from the very limited adjustable screen but the noise will get old quick on long hauls. The seat is a torture rack. It has way too much forward slope and puts sensitive body parts up against the tank. The handling at slow or freeway speeds is flawless, on rails in fast corners. If you get the hard bags, it’s over 20 grand. Gonna test ride a Tracer 9GT next. I think the Yamaha might be a better value.

Thanks for "Sixth gear is useless under 65". Sounds perfect then for cruising at California 80+ hwy speeds. What did you end up purchasing? Just curious, as I thought I'd be buying the Tracer, but it was just too damned ugly. Taking a look at this V2 next weekend.

@@NothingToProve I had a 2020 Tracer 900 GT and traded it for a 2018 Multistrada Pikes Peak. While not the same Multi as this one it will be somewhat similar. I found the Tracer to be a nice and competent bike and the engine had tons of low end grunt. What it didn’t have though, was soul. It’s hard to describe but it was almost too good and I think they engineered the fun right out of it. I don’t regret my decision for a minute. There is just something about the Ducati’s that bring a smile to your face and for that matter almost any Italian vehicle. The Japanese will never be able to engineer that. Of course this is just my opinion and your mileage may vary.

@@IanTed Agreed. But I feel that the 900XR strikes a perfect balance in terms of pricing (USD 12500 vs USD 17900, a huge difference). It gives almost everything that the Multi V2 has (Hydraulic Steering dampers, Engine Braking Control, Wheelie control in addition) for a not-so-bad performance. Also, I was just delighted with its behavior in the corners. Overall, an easier bike to live with on a daily basis. Hi Scott, great review of the V2 and agree it's easy to ride and it loves twisty roads, but after I tested it today and found it was performing poorly at low to 4K revs. A lot of vibrations in the seat and bike, after 2 hours you quickly get tired of the v2. Also tested the Desert x and found it much better to ride and stronger from 3k revs than the v2

I‘ve just bought a used 950S from 2019 and I LOVE it!! There is a noticeable difference between the Euro-4 Spec (2017-2020) and the Euro-5 Spec engine (2021-models and onwards). The „older“ version runs way smoother at lower revs and is far more user-friendly trough towns and villages. 50km/h in 4th gear is now problem at all while same thing is almost unbearable with the successor. Highly recommended! 👍🏻

I own a Moto Guzzi V7. Needed a bigger bike to take a passenger. Bought a 2022 Multi V2 just basing my decision on videos like this one. BIG MISTAKE! The bike is top heavy, extremely uncomfortable seat - I was suffering just after 10minutes, constantly sliding forward. Great handling, great transmission, but the bike felt and sounded like a big scooter. Like a sewing machine, like a bag of rusty nails. Needless to say I got rid of it after a few weeks. I lost pleasure of riding....until I got myself a BMW R1250R. Fantastic bike with a charisma of the Moto Guzzi, but a lot more power and torque. I'm a happy biker again..

Great review, as usual. However. Quick shifter is not supposed to be just a shift without clutch; it only makes sense at full throttle; no need to test it at 30% power. Also, putting the blinker into the hand protector doesn't make any sense to me; it's the first thing to hit the ground.
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I very rarely accelerate at full throttle. More like 95% of the time some where between 10-60% throttle, in traffic, normal, every day riding, that's how "most" normal people ride a motorcycle at least when I ride with other people. QS are on ADV, Sport-tours, Touring, Standards, nakeds...etc. so the question becomes why? Why do we have this MotoGP tech that was developed in the 1990's on bikes on the show room floor in dealerships today? To be used only when doing illegal speeds, or track days or running from the cops? Because if you are accelerating at full throttle for just 2 gears, you are illegal. The answer is: if we pay for something, we're going to use it and use it all the time. And therefore, I'll keep testing them at around 30% throttle, where most of us will use them. Because that's what I do 👍😁 take care, Scott

Also, that's not the case on my 1250RS Beemer, and presumably all the other Boxers. Using the QS going up on a pinned throttle is definitely not as smooth as doing so on (at a guess) 40 - 80% throttle.

@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve Жыл бұрын
Thank you. No this cannot compete with the 1200GS in comfort or leg room. Being 6'3" on this bike is a problem, you will probably want the high seat option and you still won't have the same leg room you had on the GS but it might be enough for you. Remember the main purpose of the GS is to get you from point A to B in comfort and this is simply not. This is performance based, so the rider is not the focus and that is where the GS will beat this every time. Good luck and take one for a test ride if you can, then you'll really notice the difference between the two. Scott

Well, I'm careful when asked this question. Simply it really depends on what a person is looking for in a bike, it's like picking a girl friend/wife, everybody's different. With that said, usually money is at the top of the list, if you want the most expensive, then this bike or the 850GS, budget then the Versys 650 is about the best bike money can buy or "bang for buck". The two new offerings from Honda and Suzuki this year I'd do a pass on, the V-Strom 800 is not a V, it's a parallel twin and it's way too much money for a Suzuki (no wind protection and ugly) and the Honda Transalp just missed the mark on where they wanted it, it's kind of in the middle of the range but with none adjustable front forks & snatchy throttle response...come on Honda give me a break, that is a deal breaker for me in 2023. I would buy the Tiger 900 GT Pro, it ticks all the boxes and even looks good doing it, although it is in the price range of the BMW but that is the bike that stands out from the crowd and I'd buy it. take care, Scott

I have a Scrambler Ducati. I test rode a 950 before buying it.. It was a little bit tall and had a rough engine which was not very tractable in the low revs... A Tiger 900 was very much more to my liking, for instance... I decided to give the V2 a go and what a difference!!! Night and day!!!! It felt so much lighter and the engine felt completely different, too.. So much more flickable and easier to ride.... I think this is going to be my next bike... Only the new Mandello V100 is confusing me, I haven't test ridden it yet, though... How do you think they compare?? I know they are in different classes, but they are surprisingly close in price and attractiveness....
@NothingToProve

Yea, ADV vs. Sport-touring but (and this is a big but) the V2 is really a sport-touring bike in ADV clothing, imho. So yes, I would compare the two as almost equal. I think I would take the V100 just for looks and shaft drive and electric wind screen, albeit I'd put a different screen on both bikes, the stock screen is not enough on either bike for me. But if you are looking for performance then get the Ducati, the V100 is good & fast but if pushed the Ducati really shines, whereas the V100 pushes back and says: "really, you want to go that fast?" and the Ducati says: "oh yea, let's go baby". take care, Scott

@@NothingToProve Thanks for the useful insight.. Oh, by the way, the Ducati seems the more reliable package to me , very strange to say about a Ducati, though... The Guzzi may have some childhood defects, that's a concern for me...

I took a test ride this week, the Aviazione Navale version.... It's even better than I expected... The sound and the brakes are excellent...It would be a shame to ride the Guzzi for short distances, though.. The Multi V2 is better suited for back road blasts even though it looks bigger... Go figure 😝

What do you mean when you say we need a big bank account? I mean I can barely just affort this bike, and I can save up for the desmo service once every 30,000 kilometers. And I'm not going to be revving the bike up to 10000rpm. So why do I need a big bank account if I have (lets say already been able to afford and buy this). Riding calmly, this burns about 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers as far as I know. And thats the same I used to burn on my 1200GS. So any other hidden expenses?

Also, does the new v2 seat vibrate as bad as the previous 950? I found that at over 3.5 4k revs, the seat was getting veeery vibey.... Really unpleasant.

@NothingToProve

Have you ridden either? Cause if you had, you'd probably not be asking this question. Just curious. The Ducati is for performance and not touring. And yes that makes a big difference. After a while the go go go on the Ducati is just not welcomed when touring. And this is all GO! take care, Scott

@@jk2l The Multistrada's V2 needs more revs to run smoothly. A 1250 GS feels a lot more relaxed, because it starts to pull just above idle. However, if you want a comfortable and practical sport bike, the Multistrada is a great choice. I bought a 950s because my XSR 900 was just too aggressive and uncomfortable for touring, and I'm having just as much fun on my home stretch but now I can easily go touring as well. It's just going to be very spirited touring. 😀

The Tiger is on the chart, look again. You won't see a 900XR or T9GT on my adventure chart or anyone's for that matter. There are 11 bikes on this list already, if I add those 2 bikes you propose, then I have to add the rest of the sport-touring middleweight bikes, cause that's what they are, then the list would be endless.

Been riding this one for a few weeks now, I really love it but, one thing I dislike about it is that Ducati being all premium and fancy, they chose to do that V2S graphic as a sticker, for real they couldn't do a paint job? Similar with the logos, they are glued to the front and the back, I'm afraid I will wash it off one day and won't even notice it. A 17k+ motorcycle with stickers on it..
