The Hyundai Kona N is a car that we absolutely adore. It provides all the lovely hot hatch aspects, including being quite efficient! Regardless of if you take the result from the cluster, or from the pump, this Kona N smashed its EPA rating.

The ECO mode he was driving in is very aggressive (automatic mode) at shifting up to keep rpm's low. You could be in 7th gear (maybe 8th) at 40mph and 2500 rpm's. That'll definitely produce solid mpg's over the course of a tank of fuel. Of course the challenge is to not touch the big blue N-mode paddle buttons that are begging to be hit.

Great numbers! Hard to not want to have N mode all the time hah. The best i've gotten is around 38mpg with a mix of N and ECO but again going off what the screen says. Also feel it's gotten better milage after downsizing to smaller and lighter wheels. Love this car and thanks for the vid!

Good review of the cars ability to get decent mpg, thanks! Did you also do a mpg test on an Elantra N? Id think it should be even better since it sits so much lower.

I’m about to drive a 2018 Frontier from Atlanta to Tampa. It’ll be a miracle if I see 21 mpg.

Great results! I have an Elantra N and the best I’ve been able to get on a long highway trip so far is 33 MPG. Still impressive but I’m surprised the Kona N got better for you. Two questions for you… 1) How many miles are on the Kona N you tested, and 2) Was it a very flat drive? I live in TN so it’s fairly hilly in my area so I’m sure that is part of the reason I’m not seeing numbers quite that high. Thanks for the informative video!

Thanks! About 6500 miles, and yes the route is fairly flat. Yes, hills would drop your result, and if you're going faster than 70 mph that'll do it too.

@@DailyMotor thank you for the response! I do typically go about 75mph. My car has 4,100 miles on it. From what I’ve seen for whatever reason they actually get better MPG with more miles on them, so maybe I’ll see a little better as time goes on. Thanks again!

@@n-power-automotive...drop your speed 4-5mph, drive unexcitingly in the right lane so you don't get run over and get an extra 1-2 mpg. More frugal driving won't yield huge results. You might improve a few over what you are getting, but just a few. Now, if you constantly hoon and do silly max acceleration jaunts from every stop, you'll take a larger (negative) hit than the (positive) gain you'll see from driving slower...I gained 2 mpg in my wrx doing the limit, 28-29mpg to 30-31mpg...

Wait a minute.. what NAV are you running in full screen? I mean, it looks like u are running CarPlay (based on the left hand icons, etc), but that full screen is perplexing to me.

In ECO mode you can get 34 miles a gallon on the freeway. I own the car. In N mode, you get a chance to cash out your 401k. Lol

I didn’t buy a Kona N just to drive like a hyper mileing grandma. That said, with these Pirelli tires that are like hockey pucks in the cold, I’m forced to drive like one in the winter.

I take it this is not the 270HP beast. Also, my tires are recommended on my 2019 Ultimate 51 (fifty one ) pounds pressure all way round. They are All Season. stock came with the car. So. Huh?

This is the 276-hp Kona N. And 51 psi sounds like a maximum, not a recommended pressure. There should be a placard on the inside of the driver door that lists recommended pressures. Or your owners manual.

Different conditions - a lot colder weather for the Accord and less tire pressure (bigger rolling resistance). And no, Kona N did 34mpg, Accord hybrid did 37mpg and it was on 19". And Accord also had the old MPi engine.

@Eugen-E According to this video, the actual fuel calculation was almost 38 mpg.
