Very handy guide. I've been doing services on cars for fifty five years and it's still nice to see on a new car all the little quirks and tools. Everything in the video is correct, just did a change on my 2022 Tucson.

At around 2:54, you mentioned catastrophic engine failure due to drain plug not properly installed. Well, I'm in that current situation where a shop did not follow factory specs with the drain plug that led to my engine seizing up leading to total engine failure. I'm in the process of filing lawsuit against that shop.

Thanks for the video. I was told by the dealer that this includes a 36month/36000miles free maintenance from Hyundai
@AKJeeper
@AKJeeper Жыл бұрын
Yes, the maintenance is free for the first 3 years - but only if you do it per the Hyundai schedule. Anything beyond what the schedule calls for is on the customer. In my customer's case, she wanted to have the first oil change done in advance of the normally scheduled one. Just cheap insurance, in my book.

Great job!. Could you show or tell how you raise the car and where do you put the jack stands. The stands I have were sitting under the car in a whole (not sure if you see what I mean) but because of the shape (U shape) of it it got stuck a bit under. Just trying do figure out the best way of raising and holding the car. Also, would you consider ramps? Thank you!
@AKJeeper
@AKJeeper 2 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommend using ramps to lift this vehicle. There simply aren't any good spots for jack stands on these vehicles.

Thanks for the video! Another new owner here. Can't believe this vehicle requires disassembling the filter and replacing the element itself. That's a throwback to the '50s and really a nuisance. FWIW, I would have appreciated a better view of the jackstand points. Also, is there a single point near the front of the vehicle that's safe to raise it with a floor jack? Maybe a crossmember? I haven't even been under this vehicle yet.
@AKJeeper
@AKJeeper 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of vehicles have gone to the cartridge style filters, I’m not entirely sure why other than cost and in some cases packaging/location. The jack points are very lacking on this vehicle. The crossmembers don’t appear to be stout enough for jack stands. Basically there are no places for jack stands other than the same points on the pinch weld that the jack uses. It’s almost like they designed the vehicle to be lifted using a 2-post hoist or a drive-on 4-post hoist. I would recommend using vehicle ramps instead - safer and easier.

@@AKJeeper Well, I asked about jacking because your video appears to show the vehicle supported on jack stands. You must be doing something here that isn't obvious. I do have ramps, so hopefully that will be enough to get underneath. I have to say, this filter issue really bothers me. I do most of the work on our vehicles, and this one will probably get a lot of miles. That means dealing with this ridiculous design about twice a year. I guess you just can't take anything for granted. Spin-on filters have provided trouble-free service for more than six decades, but that apparently isn't good enough for Hyundai. I actually wouldn't have bought the vehicle if I had known about this. Thanks again for posting the video!

@@TriodeLuvr I purposely left out the info on jacking points because this car (and a lot of modern FWD-based vehicles) simply don't have factory-approved locations to put both the jack AND the jack stands under the vehicle at the same time, creating a rather unsafe situation for someone trying to do maintenance themselves. I meant to mention using ramps in the video, but spaced it out. In this video, I used two jacks on the factory jacking points (pinch welds on the rocker panels). I placed two jack stands under the subframe, but did not set all of the weight of the vehicle on the jack stands in fear of damaging the subframe. This vehicle's subframe did not seem to have a good sturdy spot for the jack stands. I did not feel comfortable with the setup I had, and I would never recommend anyone else to support the vehicle in that manner. If I wasn't pressed for time, I would have purchased a set of ramps so I could have included that info in the video. As for the filter style - I guess I've worked on so many vehicles with this kind of filter that it's not as irritating to me these days. I don't like having to clean the dang housing, and I really don't care for the housing being constructed of plastic (again, typical these days...not just KIA/Hyundai). I don't understand why these car manufacturers went away from the tried and true spin-on oil filter, so I'm with you there. Sorry I wasn't able to provide more useful information regarding the jacking points. Thanks for taking the time to leave comments. I appreciate you watching my videos! Take care!

Mechanic here. The majority of vehicles these days use filter cartridges. It’s not really any more work than a metal canister filter.
@MineZilla123

I find the cartridge styles to be easier that the spin offs. Worked on tons of cars with these and never had a issue. I've had plenty of spin ons get stuck from being overtightened, old, ect. And had to wrestle oil filter wrenches into tight spots cursing. Vs having a nice big nut that I can get a socket on. My old Mercedes had one and it was in the top of the engine bay almost front and center. So easy to do, standing just looking under the hood, and less mess too. Plus they have less waste from the metal cartridge so they are better for the environment, and I really Appreciate that good filters for cartridge styles usually always come with new crush washers for the oil drain and anything else involved in the process which is a added touch

I don’t own this car, it was a customer car. She wanted to run Pennzoil Platinum, so that’s what went in it. I personally do not like Quaker State oil, would only use it if a customer requested it.

@AKJeeper
@AKJeeper 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not too different than other cars, besides the oil filter housing being plastic and needing to be properly torqued down to prevent damage. Be sure to get a genuine Hyundai filter kit so you get the drain plug washer as well as the filter housing drain screw. Those need to be replaced every oil change.
