A really good (and unexpected) explanation of John Deere model numbers. Thank you! I’ve been shopping for a tractor for over a year and nobody, in any video I’ve watched, has done that. It’s confused the heck out of me, until now!

I feel like there is no reason to hide it. It is a part of the machine and how it functions so you have to address it in my opinion.

I wasn't sure about the D class when I started my search, but I'm actually way excited about it now. I love old school tractors! This looks like such a beast of a tractor.

Great review! Good pacing and comprehensive information. I bought my first tractor last year and was looking at the 3 series or the Kubota L. My local Kubota dealer quickly responded to my email where I asked a bunch of annoying newbie questions...Two NY state Deere dealers did not respond at all. Sometimes the choice comes down to very simple stuff like that.

One thing you may want to check out. I'm in Virginia, and around this area, John Deere is the only tractor dealer that actually stocks parts or can get them in a day or two. Ford, MF, Kubota and others you may have to wait weeks or longer.

I’ve owned 2,3,4 and five series John Deere E, M-HD, and R series Tractors. I can confidently say that John Deere produces too many tractor models, and variants. As an owner/operator the perfectly specked tractor would include the following: Start with M-HD, add MSL Loader, three SCVs upfront, two in the rear, LED lights, fuel tank located by step, Snail throttle control by PTO switch, telescoping draft links, electric power connect rear, down force hydraulic capable, deluxe seat with arm rests, choice of transmission, Four wheel drive, four cylinder enginesloader control on floor. If all series tractors offered were consistently equipped it would better align the machine’s value with JD’s premium price point.

I came off of an HST Kubota. Still learning (before I drive it) my JD 3043D. So, I can start my JD in any gear I want, 1-4? What is the preferred starting range, high or low on property.

The way to do this would be adding the rear SCV set and then run the grapple off of the rear hydraulics. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Does the D model have a wider footprint than the other 3000 models; being considered an "olde school" model? Is this "olde school" D model available in other series as well; 1000, 2000, 4000, 5000 etc.? I've watched you before, I think on a 333g? Anyway, you are extremely thorough and have a great style when you present. Thank you, I learn a lot when I watch you're videos!

The D models do not have a wider footprint, however they are substantially heavier than the 3E models. As of right now the D models are only made in the 3000 frame size. Thank you for watching!

Does it have an option for a mid mount mower. And skid steer stile quick attach for the front. Just looking for more information on this.

They are not compatible with the D series unfortunately.

Would this tractor be ok pulling a frontier FM 1015 for weekly grass cutting? The weight, drawbar capacity and HP requirements are all within spec. Thanks for the info.

It would probably handle it ok. You would need a set of rear hydraulics for the FM1015 but other than that I think it would be alright. Thanks for watching!

I have 14 acres in west Texas (Abilene) with about half of that being wild grass/pasture. Most of my tractors use will be with a rotary cutter and a little driveway property maintenance. Is this tractor the best fit for that?

It is hard to say. If that was all you were going to be doing for sure then I would say yes. If you are planning on much loader work then I would look into a model with a hydrostatic transmission like the 3E models. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Can you tell me if the bush hog / PTO continues to operate with the clutch pedal pressed down?

I would have to check again to make sure but I am about 95% sure that it does not.

@@WesternEquipment That does not make sense for it to be designed this way. I watched another video stating that the PTO did stop operating when the clutch was depressed. I wanted a second opinion. I just looked at a 3043D yesterday at my local JD dealership. And mainly wanted this for bush hogging. Now I am rethinking it. Thank you for the info.

Alot of power, I had to fill the tires to help stabilize it! Reccomend against the 300 E loader, it's too weak for this tractor.

Is there any way to keep the pto operating without the driver present? Like when using a chipper or generator.

@@WesternEquipment I have a 3043D. We choose it because I felt being a gear drive would be more reliable 40 years down the road. I want to be able to pass this down to my kids. Couple things my dealer left out after we purchased the tractor is you can't get a frame mounted backhoe for this tractor (which I can let go) but we told the dealer we already had a wood chipper and log splitter....they said it wouldn't be a problem but as mentioned...we can't get them to work out of the seat. Lastly we asked if it was a double clutch live pto so we could use our brush hog, put the clutch in half way change directions sand keep going. But after hooking up the brush hog found it that was not the case... Apparently it's a straight through transmission driven pto. Still a great machine. But dang. Very limited.

These tractor do not require fluid for the DPF system.

I am 200th like lol. I rly like ur vid ur rly explaining it to details . So, i wanted to get something like this but evrywhere i go i says almost $30k i thought it was a little bit closer to affordable. Is it rly 30k or is it less than that. No way peapole buy it for 30k . You can get a lot bigger and stronger tractor. Can you answer this so i can decide what to do. Thank you.

So list price online at Deere.com shows $28,500 and that is without a loader, but that is list price. There are usually some incentive and discount programs out there to help with the price. I would talk to a local dealer and see if there are any of those programs that you qualify for.

I am getting interested in John Deere 5050e . Could you do an review on that one . There is not much details about it on KZfaq and you explain it really good . The one I am interested is the 4x4 version no cab (only the rollover bar ). I dont want the tractor with the cab or really big tractors because i dont have a big enough garage for it , I dont have anywhere to store it . Thank you agin.

Then why even have the machine in the lineup if it can't use the shuttle shift without the clutch? Being basic can AT LEAST have a shuttle that DOES NOT REQUIRE A CLUTCH. A downfall for JD in my opinion.
