These are my initial impressions of the 2022 KTM 300 XC-W TPI. This is my first 2-stroke in waaaay too long. I'm excited to get into the woods with it and race some hare scrambles. This video is a simple walk around and intro of the 2022 model year. I talk about known issues, then show up close an personal all the mods I've done so far. I'm still getting used to the bike, so no riding videos yet.
My mods include:
Acerbis Wrap Around hand guards
ODI lock on grips
Tusk Flange Support Bracket
AXP Skid plate
Tusk aluminum pipe guard
Enduro Engineering front rotor guard
Tusk / Bulletproof rear rotor and caliper guard
TPS plate
Radiator hose protection
KTM Fan plug and play
Tusk radiator aluminum guards
Tubliss tire system front and rear.

Great video. I have the 557 map in my 300, its injects more oil in the mid rev range, theres no difference power output. Following the start up procedure in the o/manual is important to stop fouling plugs.

I have a 19 and a 20 300 XCW - the 19 kicks the 20's azz. Everyone said the 20+ bikes are great, so I bought one and it's no where near as good as my 19. They should have stayed with the 19 set up instead of trying to offer new stuff each year. The 19's also have none of the issues you pointed out on the issues KTM has now; it also has a kick start for back up. Regardless, that's an awesome bike you have and major congrats to you. Wait until you hit the trails man, it is so amazing to ride.

I have the same bike and it’s fantastic! From new I fitted Bulletproof TPi cover and chain guide protector, KTM Powerparts rear disc guard, Enduro Engineering skid plate and spark arrestor, and plastic swing arm covers. P3 Carbon pipe guard… Currently waiting on Motominded XL80 headlight. I have a KTM fan kit to install, but haven’t messed with it yet. I used Ptfe tape under the levers and moved them as far in as they go. At 2hrs I re-torqued everything (the spokes were way off) and changed out the oil.

Have a 2022 300 XC TPI. 2019, 2020, 2021 & 2022 are the same bike with different graphics. The rads were lowered & the engine was rotated up to raise the pipe a bit & ..... The lower left rad hose is the issue. I loosened all the hose clamps and rotated a few of the hoses. The crossing hose from the right rad to the thermotat housing was rubbing on the cylinder head. Now have 4 mm clearance. KTM's left lower rad hose protector is back ordered. It is only listed for the XC-W but fits the XC's also. Tokyooffroad KZfaq I got his silicone/ thicker/ more reinforced hose for the lower left. The original & Tokyo hose is 1" diameter at the rad end & larger at the thermostat end. Hose is 2.5 inches long. Also before riding it I put an aluminum Bullet Proof TPS cover replacing the plastic one. An Acerbis plastic skidplate with suspension linkage extension cover. KTM rear brake shark fin. And replaced the plastic 90 degree bend fuel tank outlet to a nice looking Slavens Racing black aluminum outlet. The 2021 & 2022 come with a factory capacitor I understood. At least the XC model. KTM sells a kick starter kit that is not too difficult to install. KTM poor production with some non-sealled electrical connections so I also filled from the outside via dielectric grease. Also wiring and cables are just not secured and will rub on stuff. Silicone hoses are much better, stronger, and last longer than the stock rubber coolant hoses. KTM stock hoses crack within a few couple years. Nice bike but not as torquey or as much hp as my older CR500 that still has more than anyone's stock 450 4 stroke per independant dino runs. Overall not happy with KTM assembly. But otherwise ok for my 1st KTM. Everyone I know drops theirs in the 1st hour and most of us break the end off the clutch lever. All while stopped as bike is tall. Some keep the lever clamps a tad loose, or add teflon tape onto the handlebars under the clamps to aid it them slipping on a fall. I got the KTM clamp tops with the plastic insert to ensure the clamp rotates on a fall and tighten the clamps less than the torque spec so I can bang it with the palm of my hand and adjust it after a fall if needed while away from my vehicle.

@donniemcfarland3160 2 жыл бұрын
@@UnicornMoto first and foremost the Beta Build Your Own Beta is really cool! You can order the bike exactly the way you want it from the factory! If you want disk guards just have them put them on at the factory. If you want oil injection just have them add it at the factory you can build the bike exactly the way you want it and when it comes in it’s done. Next on the list was the warranty 6 months! Way better then Anyone else. On top of that When I contacted Beta to ask some questions I received a email back from the president of Beta USA you will never get a email from the president of Honda, Gas Gas , Husky, so on so that was huge. Then it was the riding experience During the test ride the dealership had 2 bikes a 2021 250 race edition and a 300 race edition and I took both for test rides after riding a KTM 300xcw TPI the Beta starts immediately the KTM was slow to start. The Beta comes with the ability to easily make it road legal in my state a huge plus. The KTM not so easy. The Beta has that trials background feeling. When you ride it the bike feels so light and agile. With gobs of low end torque that just keeps pulling. Now let me hit on some of the little things that put it over the top for Beta Looks Beta bikes are beautiful Beta is a family owned company Beta maintenance schedule is a little more lax. Beta still has a carburetor I see both sides of that coin I have a 2014 WR 450f and it has fuel injection and it works great! But it is easy for me to work on no tuner needed for a Beta Plus when I go riding I won’t look like all of my buddies riding the same orange bike. Don’t get me wrong KTM,Husky,GasGas make great bikes, but if you ride a Beta especially in the tight nasty stuff I think you will like the beta better.

@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin Жыл бұрын
Honestly the only "major" maintenance you'll run into (assuming no abnormal wear or damage) is going to be a top-end rebuild every 80-100 hrs. You can stretch that a bit if you're easy on the bike (just my opinion). I tried to follow the manual as best I could. I did trans oil every 30hrs ish and that's about it. I recently sold this bike before it's first top end rebuild was do. Most guys do it themselves, but an experienced mechanic can do it very quickly at a fair price. Other than that, just usual stuff like spoke tension, chain tension, grips, brake pads/fluid, suspension fluid / seals, chain & sprockets, etc, etc. But, you replace that stuff as it wears out, or when the manual says to. My opinion: the manual has set service intervals for those who race in hard enduro, since this is a "competition" bike. So, if you're just trail riding and such, you can stretch the intervals for SOME of the maintenance items.

Just traded off my 2021 300XC-W for my new 2022 300XC-W. The '22 has smoother throttle response at about 1/8 throttle, doesn't have the dreaded TPI stutter. I was riding around in about 45° f the other day and it took a very long time to warm up, probably about 10 to 15 minutes. I would use the warm up knob at startup for about 2 minutes then let it idle with the knob turned off for a little bit, never touching the throttle. Then I would ride it around slow for another seven or eight minutes. I've got another ride coming up this weekend where it'll be about 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and I'm probably going to tape off my left radiator. For real (although, I'd hate to be the one guy that actually starts one). I mostly got mine for the race series I partake in, but turns out they don't EVER check for spark arrestors even though they are "mandatory". Definitely not as much of a factor outside of the desert regions in the SW and the grasslands. That said, one dude did set about 50+ acres on fire here in WV with his truck a few years back - so, it can happen.

Classic euro engineering .. a really great machine when it's all working .. but has some really basic flaws that just shouldn't be a thing.

Sorry, but having to replace the oil injector on a 11-12K bike every time you do a top end is just unforgivable. The oil injectors on old Japanese 2T bikes lasted a lifetime.

It definitely sucks, but I've heard of guys with 300+ hours on their original oil injectors for these tpi bikes, so I think ktm might just be overly cautious and covering their butts

THE FUEL INJECTION HAS RUINED THESE BIKES. I HAD TO GO BACK TO CARB AND PUT MY TPI UP FOR SALE.

There seem to be quite a few "growing pains" that KTM is experiencing. I've heard some great stories about the fuel injection / oil injection, and also plenty of nightmare stories about it. I really hope it becomes a reliable system since basically all the manufacturers will be going this route at some point due to regulations. These things need to be reliable!

I unfortunately bought one of these pieces of crap. The dealers cannot fix it and KTM will not cover anything under warranty even though it ran like shit from the 1st day. I will never buy a KTM again. I was warned I would regret it.

@@spypigeon8135 I agree 100%. Like any mass produced product there is bound to be a bad one that slips through out the door. The dealer & KTM trying to diagnois it now after it seized a 2nd time.
