Alongside the 10th-generation iPad, Apple introduced a new Magic Keyboard Folio. Priced at $249, the Magic Keyboard Folio is just $200 less than the $449 ‌iPad‌, so we thought we'd check it out to determine whether it's worth the asking price.

@MacRumors The reason your lock key wasn’t locking the iPad was by design. People would be pretty agitated if they accidentally put their iPad to sleep by accidentally over-reaching for the delete key, so the lock key needs to be held for 1 second to put the iPad to sleep.

Just got mine in the mail today. kzfaq.infoUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.

I much prefer a kickstand for my iPad over the Magic Keyboard. I can sit in my recliner and remove the keyboard. It’s the ultimate TV buddy. Everyone says it’s not good on your lap but if you put your legs up it’s great.

Can't use in lap:(. These are really desktop keyboards. Makes sense for the small iPads, not the larger ones. A 13inch screen I like typing on the couch like a laptop. Just add a function row to the iPad Pro magic keyboard and it would be perfect.

That is too damn expensive. I wish it came in matching colors. That yellow looks absolutely awesome. The function keys are quite nice though.

This is a 100% copy of the Logitech case / keyboard that’s been around for a few years now. Not sure if this one has key backlighting but the Logitech does. And it wraps around the iPad to truly protect it. And it’s made of higher quality than any of the iPad keyboards I’ve seen, in particular the plastic material (not the keys) that tends to unglue and come off after a year or two.

Still using my iPad Pro 2017 (10.5) with my Logitech with backlit and the extra keys at the top and really have no desire for these. I guess that’s the problem with the iPad line - they’re already too good to upgrade to unless you’re coming from an older device!

You use the logic enough to the point where you don’t like that bulk. And you realise you don’t drop your ipad like at all.

I actually really like the thin magnetic kickstand of this one. It’s the only thing I like about it. Does any manufacturer make something similar for the other iPads? Standalone, no keyboard. Just the snap on kickstand

I just don’t know why no reviewer mentioned about the Logitech Combo touch. It’s almost the same if not better. And It released a year ago.

Logitech is far better, especially in terms of the protection it provides the iPad.

Think you gotta press and hold for the lock button (to avoid accidental locks).

I wish they made this for this keyboard/case for the iPad pro 11. The magic keyboard makes it way less portable and the smart folio keys feel terrible.

My M1 iPad Air 256GB, a Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard and 2nd gen Apple Pencil cost me £1009 at launch. Today it would cost me £1187. This new A14 iPad 256GB with Apple Magic Keyboard and 1st gen Apple Pencil is £1047. It can't even use stage manager. It's too expensive for what it is.

Yeah, I agree but for me in Europe is quite versatile, if I have to just take some notes for university like me, I don’t need the power of a MacBook or and iPad Air and most importantly I don’t want ti spend too much, so it’s not that bad for me (especially since it would be my first iPad), on top of that I get a discount too since I’m a student so the iPad plus the keyboard in total would be 819€, not bad in my opinion, but yeah, still too much for what it is but inflation is a thing today…

I think I prefer the new keyboard design, but I know this, the new design will not fit well on a airplane tray table. I like to work on long flights. The Magic Keyboard has an overall smaller footprint that does work on most planes.

I have the Logitech Combo Touch for $129 vs $249 for the Apple version. I like the Logitech because it protects my iPad. It only adds a little weight and the covering is not that crappy silicon that warps from the moisture from your hands over time. Go with the Logitech.

If anybody is looking for good keyboards that’s cheaper than Apples I’d HIGHLY recommend Logitech combo touch It not not be Apple branded but it was a way better viewing angle, automatic backlit keyboard (which is super huge for a lot of people), and extremely protective oh yea and did I say its cheaper too. You get more for your money!!!

Yes it is. Totally is without the fancy magnets for the back. I have one for 9th gen. Got it for $130 us from Amazon on sale. Be $330 from Apple.

I’ve had the Logi folio keyboard for two years and it provides far better protection than this new Apple imitation. I took a look at the keyboard in an Apple shop and think the much cheaper Logitech version is just as good. I’d suggest people try both options

@@Sunny-ii2wm it’s not charged separately, just drawing from the iPad when it’s connected. So, if the iPad needs charging, I just plug it in when it’s sat in the Logitech keyboard case

My biggest complaint with iPads is that handwriting to text with the Apple Pencil is only available in English 😢. Same with predictive texts are also only available in English.

What about the weight? For me , the wight of ipad pro with magic keyboard defeats the purpose. Together they weight like my Mac Air. I don't know what use to give the ipad except if use as a kindle for reading. Then MAc Air is better in every aspect. Oh well, if you heavily use pencil is ok.

It’s not possible to use in air5. This (video item) can be used on the 10th gen iPad. The Magic Keyboard without separate kickstand can be used for the air5. I only know as I purchased it in error :/

My opinion: I like a simpler keyboard layout without a function key row better. You don‘t need that function row. The only thing I miss on the iPad Pro‘s Magic Keyboard is the escape key. This is something they should add in the next version.

This new magic keyboard folio does have an escape key. It’s something I wish for too, but the keyboard is only compatible with the latest iPads :(

Not having a version of this for the iPad Pro is stupid. They basically gave the basic iPad the ability to use function row keys, the Magic Keyboard specifically made for the Pros doesn’t have a function row.

Its a really small form factor keyboard. There is literally not enough space for each of them to work flawlessly. plus that sounds more like one faulty production model, out of hundreds.

This keyboard and “magic cover” are two worthless pieces of crap. The kickstand doesn’t allow more than a 45 degree incline, it offers no protection at all, and it does not has any option to attach a Apple Pencil to it. The keyboard does not have a backspace button which is awful. I hate these two products

sorry but this is so stupid model, using apple pencil 1 and dont have face ID, just one good thing is the location of the camera, nothing else. and that uncomfortable keyboard (include name) is so cheap
