This unique initiative supports the manufacture of next-generation vehicles using innovative technologies and contributes to the realization of carbon neutrality. Nissan also announced a roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 at its production plants around the world.
Hideyuki Sakamoto, Nissan’s executive vice president for manufacturing and supply chain management, said, “The automotive industry is in a period of great change, and solving the global challenge of climate change is urgent. We see this as an opportunity to build the strength of monozukuri (manufacturing), a part of our DNA, to develop and apply innovative technologies to overcome the challenges we face.”
Nissan Intelligent Factory
Since its foundation, Nissan has honed its ability to manufacture vehicles through high quality and highly efficient production processes and the superb skills of the company’s takumi (master technicians). However, the business environment surrounding manufacturing is undergoing major changes. In Japan, there is a need to break away from conventional labor-intensive manufacturing to cope with an aging society and serious labor shortage. Unforeseen situations, such as climate change and pandemics, also need to be managed. At the same time, industry trends in electrification, vehicle intelligence and connected technologies are making vehicle structure and functionality more advanced and complex.
Nissan introduced the Nissan Intelligent Factory initiative at its Tochigi Plant to respond to these needs and trends. Nissan Intelligent Factory enables Nissan to:
1. Use robots that have inherited the skills of takumi to manufacture next-generation vehicles; of the highest quality,
2. Create an improved environment where a wide range of people can work comfortably, and;
3. Realize a zero-emission production system, thereby accelerating efforts to achieve a decarbonized society.
Tochigi Plant is scheduled to start production of the all-new Nissan Ariya crossover electric vehicle this fiscal year.
Achieving carbon neutrality
Nissan aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050 1. The company aims to realize carbon neutrality in manufacturing by promoting innovations to support higher productivity in vehicle assembly, starting with the Nissan Intelligent Factory initiative, and by improving energy and materials efficiencies at plants. Plant equipment is to be fully electrified by 2050 by introducing innovative production technologies and by reducing energy use. To achieve carbon neutrality at production plants, all electricity used will be generated from renewable energy sources and or generated with onsite fuel cells that use alternative fuels.

Hope the traditional car manufacturers can prove that their experience will make the difference in terms of quality, performance and security against the Tesla's and others.

Quality shouldn't be a problem for Nissan they've been building EV's for a while now and generally have well put together cars. That said I don't expect them to surpass Tesla performance, Nissan was one of the first to market with EV's but Tesla has a massive advantage as being a dedicated EV manufacturer. They are probably a generation ahead of every other manufacturer in the world.

The dealerships HATE EVs. While I was at a Nissan dealer charging my ’15 Leaf the staff pretended that they had never heard of the Ariya. Same at another Nissan dealer. A Chevrolet dealer hid its one Bolt out back behind a shop building, boxed in with other cars and trucks. Their website didn't click to the Bolt. It was there, just couldn't find a link on the home page. Found it via EV search. My Leaf had been to the dealer only once in five years. That was to have a defective A/C hose replaced on recall. The original owner had replaced the starting battery and 1½ sets of tires.

If the quality of these cars from this factory rival existing leaders (or same as traditional Nissans models) then one could say they succeeded at where Tesla tried to do back in 2017 and failed, which is why they had to inject their factory line with people at the launch of the Model 3...And why they went to the gigapress idea since that's solving the assembly with pure brute force (one part vs many).

Have to say the assembly line is way more automated than Tesla, that's why Tesla still have alignment issues while Japanese cars are precise with all the robot placement. Also they wear gloves checking interior, keeping things clean. Idk but lots of Tesla delivery video showing smug inside, bec tesla assembly don't wear gloves? Would prefer direct sale to consumer, dealers markup price anyway doesnt really protect consumers
@UhOhUmm
@UhOhUmm 2 жыл бұрын
This is not a normal Japanese production line. It's a new factory with increased automation. Traditional Japanese factories assemble cars in a similar way to Tesla, the alignment issues are simply inexperience in tolerances and assembly procedures.
