My 1978 receiver doesn't have a sub out. I love that line. if it was a high end pioneer it probably didn't need one with over 200w a channel. lol 👍👌✌️🎶💯🥂

Are these designs available to follow anywhere? The Vespers look like a really nice high-end mid sized two way.
@DodgyBrothersEngineering

None of them sound like they have been particularly well designed (mostly for looks) if you want some well designed DIY speakers check out Troels Gravesen speakers. They are not only good looking but well designed.
@PhillioDoede

@@DodgyBrothersEngineering Pretty sure at least some of them are but you are left with no clue with this video. I am aware of Troels just havent built any of his designs, he is a legend though.
@DodgyBrothersEngineering

@@PhillioDoede it's just things like scaling down the LX521's you can't just take a design that works and scale it down (although that is probably a bad example since it is open baffle and probably won't be as badly effected), but the one with the ribbon tweeter looks like the mids are distanced too far apart. I run a dipole RAAL ribbon, but my mid is as close as I can get it. I was running two mids previously but they were right next to each other. Not either side of the ribbon. At those frequencies I would almost bet money on there being canceling issues. Most of these in this video look better than some of the others I have seen in their other videos where you can see obvious diffraction issues occurring. I like the look of Troels designs because he gives you enough dimensions to give you repeatable results, plus he also puts a lot of effort into the electrical side of the speaker. If I was going to recommend a DIY speaker to anyone it would be one of his designs or a flat pack from GR Research where Danny has already been done the design work at length. I wouldn't try emulate any of these as they are probably best guesses (not that there is anything wrong with that we all have to start somewhere).
@DodgyBrothersEngineering
@DodgyBrothersEngineering Жыл бұрын
@@PhillioDoede the Vespers would be a fairly safe design to almost guess at. Because the tweeter is sealed you only need to make sure that the distance from the centre of the tweeter to any of the 4 edges are not equal (something you could do by eye) and just work out the cavity requirements for the main driver. Keep the tweeter on ear level and provided you get the crossover point right it would be pretty hard to go wrong. One of the really great things about that classic two way design is that you can very easily control the cavity volume by simply blocking off any of the cabinet space you don't need. The box is often way bigger than the volume required, so internal sizing is a breeze.
@PhillioDoede

@@DodgyBrothersEngineering I get your points and I'm not really particularly interested in building any of these because most of them are novelty projects that people want to build for a variety of reasons but nothing anyone is going to go out of their way to replicate. The few designs that have some practical thought and design into them like the Vespers don't have any detailed information so who knows as to how good it is. I'll just build a CSS one of Madisound OEM kits or one of the vetted proven designs, ect. Point is these videos are pretty pointless and I fail to see who the target audience is. If Parts Express wants to promote the hobby this seems like it misses the mark and is missed opportunity. Out of curiosity do you have your designs published anywhere?
