Pretty good review. Would have been nice to mention the CVT cooler, engine cooler, and rear differential temp sensor not found on others Foresters.

Once I had owned and driven a Forester XT, I'll never go backward to the standard Forester. We've driven our Forester XT across the US: through mountains, deserts, serious off-road situations and years of deep Minnesota snow. It has never failed us. We've never once been stuck in the mud or snow and have averaged 20K miles per year with our Forester XT's.

Researched this car segment for the last 2 months, my findings, - 5th gen forester rated #1 in safety and readability over all others including RAV, trial hawk, honda and bronco. That said, it has been a long road for Subaru from the CVT tranny , oil consumption, head gasket issues of past generation vehicles. At 6'3, CR just announced the Forester is #1 with tall drivers as well, no surprise as the "green house" visibility is very attractive. All the safety dings can be disabled permanently, with the exception of engine on/off at stop. After market solution will solve that as well. So, I will be picking up my Subaru Forester Wilderness / pearl white next week. Comfortable driving on and off road, safety and readability, looks, honest service advisors that I have visited with during this time, all have pushed me this direction. And finally driving my daughters 2017 Forester premium, sold me on being a Subie owner. Suggested maintenance to ensure long life; 30k diff (F/R) service, 40k CVT Transmission service, and oil changes every 4k. Compared to the Outback, Off road analysis/videos show the turbo in the Outback gets totally in the way of performance when climbing, as the Forester's new gearing and software changes bring much more to the equation over the turbo, in my opinion. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kKyPfdeYr53Fe4U.html HAPPY TRAILS

If turbo were available, I'd consider it, if it's not too noisy of a ride. But Outback is already there. Thank you, good presentation.

looks more like Army green to me. I like it. We bought a '22 Touring model, my wife chose the Magnetite Gray Metallic, my choice would have been the Autumn Green Metallic. But as usual, she got her way, she's my sweetie so it's all good

All reviewrs complaint about acceleration…i think most people make the mistake to floor down the gas pedal, i’va had two Foresters and they accelerate pretty well, just don’t floor it, medium pressure on the gas will give you pretty fast acceleration

Nice review! I like this Forester a lot and even if a turbo was available am probably one who would stick with this engine (a hybrid option however…). There is so much leg space in back I wish the seats could slide forward to maximize rear cargo. Hopefully the next CRV has an off-road option like this Wilderness

I wonder if the wheel wells would accommodate a 65 series tire, like 225/65 instead of that 60 sidewall that looks a tad small. The Outback Wilderness does come with the 65 series sidewall, same exact wheel. The Forester just needs a wee bit more meat around those nice looking 5 spoke wheels.

I think every review of the Forester, Wilderness or otherwise, that I've seen has mentioned/complained about the lack of power. It has plenty of power. Not everything needs to be a sports car. Not everything needs to be quick off the line. I used to have a 1985 BMW 735i(his name was Gunther), and I considered that car pretty quick for a 2-ton sedan. It's power-to-weight ratio(both hp and torque) was worse than the Forester.

The power fine the average person is not worried about 0 to 60 more about how the car drives and practicality and straight forwardness the engine is there for efficiency and smoothness and a 21 The suv easy to maneuver and light even when you read the marketing it tells from jump it's capable spacious a responsive all wheel drive and the transmission is responsive too . It can through traffic fine and sufficient enough passing power I have no trouble merging on to traffic and I don't have my foot to the floor . Overall drives good smooth excellent visibility and ton of space

Where would I take the Foster Wilderness? Well, with a CVT, I wouldn't take it off the dealer's lot. Btw, good interview. Not too much hype, and seems fair about the benefits and shortcomings.

That's not going to happen because they'd sell a lot fewer Outbacks. That's why they pulled the Forester turbo.

Whenever Subaru uses “_______ green metallic”, you know it’s gonna be debated as to what the color actually is. Like my 09 Sage Green Metallic Forester that most people think is “steel blue” 😅

The combination of 2,5 with a turbo as introduced in early 2000's has never been surpassed, and why Subaru dropped this winning combination is not entirely clear. The fuel consumption argument does not really fly..as turbos are used in many applications by many manufacturers. My 2006 2,5 xt puts out 175kilowatts and 300 nm of torque and that is the kind of power this one needs.

Nothing random about an XT on the Forester; given that Forester had an XT for 2018 and then cancelled it. I've had two Forester XT's, a 2014 and now a 2018. I loved them both and if Subaru doesn't bring back a Forester XT within a couple years, I'll be switching brands. I really dislike the current Forester with the noisy underpowered engine. YUCK!! Subaru, kindly give us a break. You can put an XT 's in sedans, in the Outback and the Crosstrek, why not bring it back for the Forester. My own dealer said they couldn't get enough Forester XT's; why was it cancelled. The dealer said he heard they weren't selling well in some markets. The problem was there weren't enough XT's available and they weren't promoted as an option ( a great one, I believe) to the standard Forester.

beauitful car....i have a 2014 forrester....luxury edition....practial AF and so so great for soft off road......you get so much with a forrester compared to euro $$$$$ ego SUVs....plenty of cabin room.....sure, not a pretty or sexy (at all) car, but who gives AF.....love it value for money, A to B, comfort

Not worth the low mileage numbers. Double X-Mode is a gimmick that most people would not know how to use. If you know how to drive off-road and in inclement weather conditions, it’s amazing what a standard Subaru can do regardless of model.

the video clip of the competition, the Jeep Cherokee driving straight down the trout creek was priceless! let's take our off road cars and drive them in places no vehicle should ever be, and destroy the river ecology, because you know, fun!! if that is stock Jeep footage, i'll boycott the brand for that garbage.

If the plastic is painted it wouldn't be an issue? The purpose of the black bumpers is to take damage and be replaced cheap. Front bumper and rear are both around $300. Road noise will always be a thing with beefer tires. Take a jeep for a ride.

@@teabag3854 the degree of cladding around the wheels is overkill. More insulation and better windows will improve road noise even with the tires. Different tires will help too as not all are the same regarding noise.

If you live in a southern state where they dont salt the piss out of the roads, the cladding isnt necessary. However I live in rust hell ny state. I have a new crosstrek and I'm hoping the cladding keeps the rust away, particularly the rear quarter panels
