We get our first taste of the new 2022 Toyota Tundra. We try the TRD Pro and the TRD Off-Road, both fit with different engines. The new Tundra features a brand new frame and new powertrains. So the question is, is the 2022 Toyota Tundra the best Tundra ever.

I’m a base model 4wheel drive kinda guy. Love the truck. I’ll be sticking with my gutless 4cyl Tacoma for now I just feel trucks have gotten to big for their own good anymore. I’m 6 foot I shouldn’t have to climb up the side of a truck just to reach stuff in the bed. That being said this is definitely the baddest full size on the block now and probably for years to come.

The sr5 trd would be my pick. Everything you want in a truck. No need for the pro unless you go hardcore off-road. But with a lift, that green truck is probably all you need for 95% of your off road chores. Great video

We knew that the power would be good. The Ford Ecboost has awesome acceleration. The main issue we Tundra V8 owners have is long term durability. I keep up with my maintenance and I truly expect my truck to eventually push to close to 1,000,000 miles without ANY major issues.

Thanks for a nice video. Interesting to hear your impressions of the on-road difference between the two. I have had two RAM 1500s and I am happy with them, but given what you said about the non-hybrid, lower-trim version I might actually look at that next time. I'd be hard pressed to not get another RAM, they are just amazing trucks, but it doesn't hurt to compare.

You provide wonderful insight. You made really good points. I haven’t seen the new Tundra and only rode in one once. So my comment is based on watching your two videos. I agree the front end is ugly. I don’t like large screens. I rode in a modern F150 and feel the Tundra was more comfortable for me. Tundra is too big for me and my garage in Wisconsin. Midsize pickup is what I am in the market for. Again, I love how genuine y’all are. Bravo!

Going to stick with 19 TRDPro for a while to be honest. The look is growing on me and I like the drive modes and rear locker but I’ve honestly never had an issue or gotten stuck with my current truck. Granted I’m not trying to take a truck places where a decked out jeep or side by side goes but for sand dunes, mud, towing a boat, etc it’s more than fine. Will need to test drive the new one. Exhaust note is important as well.

Looks good. Love the orange. I have a ‘12 5.7 2wd. Unfortunately if/when I’m in the market to buy a “new” one, it certainly will not be the 3.5 tt. Reliability and real world towing ability are important on a truck that actually gets used for truck stuff. It’ll be a 2020 or older 5.7 v8 with low mileage for me. Gas is still cheaper in the long run than replacing turbos, head gaskets, water pumps, etc.

@@GreenMountain565 I'm no expert but maybe the unibody design can carry more of an even weight distribution? It's weakness is off road capability since it lacks the flex of a bed on traditional pickup but for 90 percent of folks....

Hi guys... love all the Tundra content! I recently reached out to Toyota Canada to ask why I can't have an SR5 with the option of rear air suspension but you can in the US. I also pull 3 trailers... 2 work and a 30' travel trailer. From what I can tell... the air suspension would be the cherry on the sunday! I also had to install air bags on my Silverado but would prefer a factory setup like Toyota or Ram does.

They gave you the two sides of the spectrum and in my two favorite colors that they have these trucks 🛻 in. That orange 🍊 the TRD pro really pops. I don’t like the black at the top of the tailgate. Other than that I like the look of the truck 🛻 even more than the previous gen. The SR5 in that dark green is beautiful and bold too, even though I don’t like the chrome bumper. Since it has a more on road type suspension version the softer TRD Pro which is made to soak up the bumps off road it’s driving mannerisms are more planted. Oh and I have seen an SR5 reviewed that has more tech and cameras 🎥. Most likely a towing or tech package that is an option. I look forward to them having these on the build and price on their website so I can play around with it. I also look forward to watching you guys in a more in-depth towing and off road review.

All the Tacoma truckers that have the lag in there trucks wont want to drive a tundra with the same problem of the lag. But overall great truck great video. U gave me alittle bit more confidence in the new tundra. 👍👍👍

Can you put an aftermarket bumper and cow catcher on those without using a saw to cut the grill up?

My concern with the hybrid is how long will the battery last under these conditions. Towing i. The mountains of Colorado. Up and down hills varying from 25-55 mph working all the gears and rpm’s. Seems like that scenario would utilized the electric motor often draining the battery. I Know it would revert to just the gas engine but if you’re paying for the hybrid upgrade knowing how long it may last and or how quickly it could recharge on a long flat segment would be useful to know.

I’ll go withBig Daddy, he likes it I’m with him, us old guys stick together and I have to admit other than the sound my 2017 2.7 Ecoboost F150 has been the absolute best vehicle I’ve ever owned, only 64k but not a single problem I imagine the Toyota Turbo 6 will also be reliable, I think like Ford they should have kept a V8; for those guys that want that great sound and 100% trust a V8. As always guy great review for a bunch of Moon Shine running Canucks!!!

I would definitely go for the better ride a full size bed of the TRD Offroad vs. the TRD Pro. Both are definitely cool trucks.

I dont know if the looks will ever grow on me I do however like the SR5 better , the less technology and electronics the better . Not offering a V8 is the deal breaker though never a fan of the V6 sound . Had a first gen and loved it my 2015 Tacoma I wish I could make it quieter . Drive my 2011 Crown Vic most of the time and average 19 - 20 mpg around town , 3-4 mpg better than my Tacoma . I wait to see how the new Tundra holds up long term and what kind a mileage it gets .

The new Tundra is a swing and miss by Toyota for me. No naturally aspirated V8 option, no tow hooks, and frankly (to me) it looks like an old man truck. Thanks, but no thanks, Toyota...maybe next time.
