The brand new Yamaha YZF-R7 brings a huge change to the table - dropping the old R6's inline-four in favor of a parallel twin setup. Was that a smart move? Alex finds out by taking the new R7 flat-out on the track.

IMHO: Speed is great when it comes to riding, but having the ability to use a bike to its full potential (on the street) is much more satisfying than riding a fast bike slow. Yamaha did their research, I think this will be a knockout in sales.

@@romanhrytskiv8845 to be honest yea, probably. I hardly top out my cb500f, On back roads I could maybe use the first 3 gears to the max. But also that bike not really meant to be riding at top rpm, so the first 4 gears can be utilised pretty well

I've always wanted an R6 due to the looks but didn't want all the unusable power on the street and the super aggressive riding position. So then I started leaning towards an MT-07 because of the useable power from it's torquey parallel twin but was undecided on the naked look. Seems like Yamaha has answered my prayers with the new R7. I'll definitely be picking one of these up in blue.

Not just the youngsters, are buying this bike. I'm 50 years old and been waiting for a new authentic supersport twin since the mid 2000's. Been riding a TL1000R on the street, and on more track days than I can recall. I don't mind coming down to a middleweight bike at all. I have a blue one secured out of the few preorder units that sold out after 8 hours of going live on the Yamaha website. Yamaha called me and I got info on shipment being the first half of June. Its gonna be hard to wait.

The SV650 with fairings was probably the best bike that an amateur track rider with a small budget could buy…. Until now. I think that this bike is a great place for the weekend warrior with a desk job to be able to live out his fantasy of being a racer without needing the budget to maintain a high strung super sport. The engine a proven reliable platform that won’t require a factory support team to keep running. It won’t eat through 3 sets of tires every race weekend. The price brand new is less than an 8 year old 600 super sport…. In short, if you’re on a budget, this is the best ticket to track days and I bet you’ll have just as big a smile on your face as the guy that blew three times as much as his setup. In 3 years, you won’t be able to go to a single track day in the country without seeing dozens of these. I think it’s a win for Yamaha, at the expense of pissing off the super sport purists.

I don't understand, how did they design a bike where the instrument cluster is obscured by the brake lines? I'm sure that mechanically, the bike is excellent, but the only way this made it past the design stage was because this is a parts-bin bike that they glued together as a stopgap.

This thing looks AWESOME. And honestly I really dig it. I live Yamaha sport bikes, they look the absolute best in class in my opinion. The only problem was an r3 is tiny, and the r6 is a monster, high revs, high horsepower, not ideal for street riding and loving your sport bike every day. I think this fits an awesome spot, and I might now be in the market for one this year.

I own a wr250x atm and going to an r6 or other inline4's was never the way for me. I mean going from 25hp to over 100 seemed to much and I am not able to use that power at all . the only other option would be and ktm rc390 or kawa400 but yea I'm really tall with 6'4 height and these bikes are a lil bit to small. I have the same feeling with the r7 tbh because I won't fit on a MT 07 but hell ima try it out 100%. maybe it works with wider bars and different rear sets. fingers crossed

I had an FZ-07 as my first bike and I tracked it a few times. Its a really fun bike the 700 is a good motor and the FZ07 would cut threw the corners with ease. this would be a great bike for the track if you don't care about how fast you can go on the straight. But its no 600 the power difference is 70 to the 100-130 on any 600. But a good rider at the track will be killing it at the track heck guys on 300's can be running times just as fast as most.

Going from r6 to r7 the insurance will be more, and this has less power than the old r6. Not what the thought on this was. Great review. 👍

why should the insurance be more. complete nonsense
@Bi6M4C

@Scott Summers I don't think so. here in my country bikes with high potential to crash are more expensive to insure & r6 is prime example for big blue ball muscle heads who wanna impress their grandmother while reving up first gear in a 30 zone inner city. also HP/ general motor size playes a huge role too.

@@Bi6M4C and now that this is an an affordable "race bike", to the entry market masses, what do you think is going to happen? Insurance on this is probably going to go up a bit. Maybe not at first, but after many young squidlets drop this cheaper rocket. Insurance will catch up.

very good point. Really should have gone the ninja 650 route and raised the bars, lowered the seat, and not named it the r7

people buys R6s first for the looks. Same concept here. The bike looks fantastic. Bonus is, it will be way more fun to use on commutes than an R6. Power is more readily available, at lower speeds. Looking forward to all the shops that gonna be boasting 85-100hp mods for this bike.

@Scott Summers 8 lbs lighter than mt07, different rake, different front forks, stiffer frame, adjustable suspension, new better clutch for track riding, etc. But all you are paying for is clippons and fairings?? Not sure if you are ignorant, did not even look at the video, or just being dumb.

@@pinkt1t5 Still overpriced. Look at what you can get on a ZX6R for $1200 USD more than the R7. Aluminum twinspar chassis, swingarm, suspension, brakes, motor, TC, quickshifter stock, etc.

It's more of an R bike than the R3 in my opinion. Slightly less than the old R6, but it will be a better bike than the old R6 for 90% of riders. The truth is though most of them won't admit it.

Yeah thats true. Though I kind of looked at the R6 as getting a cheap 4cylnder bike than a pricey 600. But it makes sence why they downgraded the power and the price, it will be better for 90%

@animationcycles7109
@animationcycles7109 3 жыл бұрын
@@kleinbottled79 it's the pedigree behind the name. It can be an XJ-07R, or MT07-R.... but it isn't "R7" racing bloodline/lineage. At BEST, it is an official Yamaha racing MT07. With a horrible name change. I guess even bikes are getting into " I associate as a..." movement now.
