They have three main sources of funding: entrenched gigantic corporations, wealthy elite, and foreign countries. As soon as an industry gets big enough to afford it, they lobby the government to erect barriers to market entry for everyone else. This includes regulation, zoning, licensure, etc. This is why when they sold marijuana cultivation licenses in Pennsylvania, the bidding started at $50k and went up. Without the extreme regulation and licensure requirements your average guy could have grown pot in his garage legally and made himself wealthy. Those licenses went to deep-pocketed, politically-connected organizations. The wealthy elite (these are way beyond millionaires) do not have to be in the US to benefit. They use their influence to get politicians to make other laws not already mentioned to maintain their high perch. This is why the tax laws look the way they do. Income tax from earned income is slavery. The tax rates for earned income are quite high when compared to the tax rates for passive incomes or for the tac flexibility of active entrepreneurship. Those wealth elite want everyone to use their assets (like rent) to maintain their income. The middle class has the income to begin amassing assets, but they normally purchase liabilities. This is pushed in mass media. This is why you see wealthy elite pushing for tax increases, and generally trying to weaken the middle class. You will own nothing and you will be happy means they will own everything. This means you will work for your money and then pay them their passive incomes for the use of their assets. Finally we come to foreign countries. We know ho this works ever since we all learned about Hunter Bidens career in the Ukraine. By the way, several other politicians kids are doing the exact same thing, including Mitt Romney's son (in Ukraine). Selling out the US to foreign entities is very lucrative. This is why Biden's cabinet is 77% Jewish and the White house staff is over 80% Chinese. But it's not just Biden. Foreign interests compete against US interests, and regulation can give them an edge. It is valuable. The only incentive for US politicians to work for the American people is fear of death. They have zero fear right now. Government funding (power) originally flowed from the people to the states, and from the states to the federal government. That flow of power was reversed with the 16th and 17th amendments and the federal reserve act. So the politicians domestically are only beholden to the central bank, which is a private institution. It's not audited. We don't know who the shareholder are, and they are above the law

The solution is to abolish the 100s of unconstitutional federal agencies and things would return to a better time with greater freedom and peace. Over the decades the centralization of power in DC has side-stepped the decentralized nature of the Constitution and grown to a size where the U.S. federal Government has become bullies abroad and tyrants at home.
