There's been a lot of questions about these skis. Internally, in our chats with Blizzard, from all of you; a lot of folks are curious about the Hustle 10 and its potential applications. Jeff and Bob have been fascinated by the topic and thought it was time to chat more in-depth about these new skis and what you can do with them.

Great review! I was wondering if there was any way, probably for 2023 season at this point, to use reference skis for the reviews. So, for instance, when you compare how well they carve we'd have a consistent ski to compare all of your reviews to.
@SkiEssentials

We can try to dedicate a handful of skis to being good reference models. We often use the Enforcer 100 as a reference ski as we think a lot of skiers are familiar with its feel and performance at this point.

Man talk about timing. I was thinking of getting a Hustle 10 with a Shift or Duke PT to use as my skin up the resort for the first run of the day and ride the chair the rest of the day ski. Also use it for trips out to Alta where it would be a perfect daily driver. I use to live in SLC and have dedicated BC set up with lightweight ski/ bindings/ boot. Great for long BC tours that we did 3 days a week but not so great on typical resort runs here in New England. I agree with your assessment. I have the Rustler 9 which is one of my favorite skis so the Hustle 10 will be a natural fit for the application I need. Here in New England some of my friends are switching out their skis after our skin up especially on those really firm days. This is the best set up to have a do it all ski binding. If I didn’t already have a Rustler 9 I would go with the Hustle 9 for New England application especially in the resort. It’s easier to push up hill!

You're going to love the Hustle 10, Thomas! Will work perfectly as that style ski. Tour in the morning, then just keep skiing it without needing to switch. When you're not doing the early morning tour thing, you can just ski your Rustler 9. Nice little two ski quiver there that can do a lot of different things!

Certainly some similarities! If anything, I'd say the Camox falls right in between the Hustle and Rustler 10 in overall feel, flex pattern, vibration damping, etc.

Interesting conversation. It's pretty clear that manufacturers are aiming to make products for the casual or occasional tourer, the person who might like to get away from the resort from time to time but doesn't want to pay for an entire second setup. (Or, just wants to look like they tour when standing in the lift line!) On the ski side, Volkl Blaze, Enforcer Unlimited, Kore, Line Vision, Bent 100, new K2 Dispatch series and now the Hustle all sort of fit that category. Lighter, less metal, less damp and stable, but still capable in the resort if you don't mind the feel of a quicker, more reactive ski.

I think there's certainly some truth to this... "(Or, just wants to look like they tour when standing in the lift line!)"

Thank you for that thoughtful review of the Hustles and for the discussion of this trend in the industry. I love the concept of the shift or duke bindings for skis with these characteristics, but I have reliability/durability concerns. Clearly what these bindings do is complex and the weight tradeoffs are real, and having had these out in the wild now, perhaps there are some parts that could be refined. Is there any talk of revisions to their designs?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan! I haven't had any formal conversations with manufacturers about new versions of the Shift or Duke PT. My expectation would be we'll see a new version of the Shift before a new version of the Duke PT, mostly based off their product lifespan thus far, but also somewhat based off the feedback they've received.

Austrian Alps - 187cm 70kg. Bought the Hustle 10s in 180 this year mounted with a Dynafit Rotation binding to replace my old Sky 7s, use a Scarpa 4-Quattro SL boot. Use it 50/50 resort/easy tours. Definitely challenges my skiing more than my Sky7s which is what I was looking for, makes soft snow really fun, more challenging when it gets tight, general resort skiing is great though moguls are more challenging. Overall loving it but due to the type of winter we've had this year wishing I'd gone with a narrower (weight isn't an issue) touring ski due to hard narrow /steep/off-camber skin tracks and then paired it with a resort specific ski. Looking forward to having an opportunity to ski in better conditions sometime... :-)

Love you guys valuable resource when researching skis to buy. How do you compare the Hustle 10 with Atomic BC 100? Performance in crud and carving? Thanks
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Joe! Hustle is bouncier and more energetic than the Atomic, which has more of a smeary and drifty feel to it. I'd rather carve a turn on the Hustle due to the carbon--it's got a pretty solid feel to it while I can kind of push right through my Atomics. I like the Atomic because it's easy and fun, but I'd give the performance edge to the Hustle in pretty much all categories. Hope that helps! SE

Hi, loved this review and honest conversation over a great ski. I'm really about to pull the triggere on the hustle 10 for this winter. Would like some advice from you in terms of sizing for my case. I'll ski the canadian rockies in BC this winter, but my home base is in the Swiss alps. I'm an advanced skier, will use this for 70% in bounds 30% out of bounds, considering a lot of sidecountry (lift accessed and not). I'm 183cm, 80kg, advanced skier Scarpa Maestrale is my boot and i'm thinking of the Fritschi Tecton for the Hustle, but I can't decide between the 188cm and 180cm, what you guys think for the versatile setup i'm after? Worth mentioning that I also have a set of "big" skis, Black Diamond Helio 186cm 116 underfoot. Thanks and keep it up!

I think the 180 will be a better overall choice based on your stats and application. I'm 6/2 225 and skied the 180 with great success. With the added dimension of touring and efficiency, it's okay to go a bit shorter and lighter in order to access that part of the ski's benefits. For more versatility, I do like the 180.

Carbon poppy skis are clearly a new thing. I can see young kids, who might grow up skiing on them,, ten years from now creating a new free-skiing-style style. I've mentioned in a previous post, about my experience skiing my ladies Rossi Hero Carbons, and how it made me feel like Marcel Hirscher popping out of turns. Your thoughts about this Hustle Ten, just make me believe, more and more, that this poppy skiing style is coming. We went from long straight metal skies to shorter shaped metal skis - looks like carbon poppy skis might be next.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. I think as manufacturers continue to progress in how the use carbon and other materials, we'll continue to see better and better lightweight, energetic skis. It feels like an exciting time to be a skier. We went through a shape revolution over the past couple decades and now it feels like we're entering a materials revolution.

So I'd always had directional skis with lots of camber until getting a Line Vision 108. Really like surfing these skis in deep but have an issue with not having stiff enough tails and having to be waaaay up on the edges on harder snow. Am thinking about a Volie Manti as a trade off between a stiffer tailed directional ski that I like and one with a little shorter effective length and with tip and tail rocker that I seem to also like. Don't know if you're familiar with either the Vision or Manti but does the Hustler efffectivly split the difference between a charger and the twin tip softer ski with little camber, short running length, and tip/tail rocker? Unfortunatly where I live demos are impossible to come by so everything is a guess.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
While unfamiliar with the Voile, the Vision is certainly on the light, surfy, and freeridey side of the spectrum. The Hustle is a bit more business-like in terms of stiffness and pop, but still comes in at a very light weight. We love the energy out of the Hustle 10 and 11 in a variety of snow conditions and terrain.

Awesome review! I am currently trying to decide if I should go for this years hustle 10 or last years rustle 10. Found some great deals on booth! @HoberJockey

Hey guys, you're doing amazing work, and boy it seems like a lot of work. Keep it up! I'm 5'10" 170lbs, 43, been skiing here in CA (and some in Dolomites and Rockies) since I was knee high. I ski fast and hard because it's the only way I really know how. I also like to get myself into sticky situations in the trees and the occasional double black. I'm super into mountain biking, so I'm pretty sure this "new" backcountry deal is for me (up earns your down) and so I'm planning a couple trips this year to start my journey there. Looking for a one ski quiver for 70% resort and 30% touring. I want a ski that can rip the groomers with carving perfection, play/maneuver in the trees, can handle fresh pow out West. Will likely screw in some Duke PTs. Here's where I'm looking: Blizzard Hustle 104 (1,800g@180cm, 17.5m sidecut) Nordica Enforcer 104 Unlimited (1,700g@179cm, 17.5m sidecut) Head Kore 105 (1725g@177cm, 16.5m sidecut) Elan Ripstick 106 (1,830g@180cm, 18.1m sidecut) All of these seem light and wide enough on paper. Any thoughts on where I can find the best light performer that will be fun for touring too? Thanks in advance!
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Jeffrey! You've got some great choices for sure! I think the 104 Unlimited has the best blend of light weight for touring and a fun-loving and floaty personality. It shares the shape/footprint with the Enforcer 104 Free which is a highly-touted freeride ski of its own, so by dropping the weight, they're not killing the soul of the ski, they're just making it more accessible for a wider variety of skiers and applications. I'd lean that route with the Hustle a somewhat distant second. The crazy thing is, that Hustle is an amazing ski! SE

Thanks for the videos!! How would you say they ski lengthwise? Did you experience them short? I am 183cm 82kg and usually mount bindings ca 2cm forward. Consider myself to be an advanced skier and wondering if the 188 would be a better choise than the 180? The Enforcer 104 186 is under my radar as well, want to do some parklaps with my kids som light touring and some gs turns.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 10 ай бұрын
The only reason I'd say they ski short is because they're light--nothing to do with rocker really. I'm 187cm and I'd take the 188 over the 180 any day, and I think that'd work well for you too. I own the Enforcer Unlimited 104 in the 186 and absolutely love it. It's different than the Hustle in that the Enforcer is smoother and more drifty. Hustle is poppy and energetic.

The 188. I think it's light enough to be able to size up on. Moving the mount forward will not be that beneficial if you're using it for touring, but if you are more resort-oriented and want to use the skis for more playful style, then I wouldn't argue against a +1 or 2.

Hey guys! Quick questioning regarding the width. I am currently on a soul 7 (106) and looking to upgrade this off-season and was wondering if you think I’ll notice a big difference in width between those and the hustle 10s since they are only 102. I would be looking to get the 180 length. Thanks!
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a huge difference. The taper of the Soul is more of a big deal, and you may feel that as a larger change. The Hustle has more of an all-mountain footprint while the Soul's was very progressive in terms of freeride and surfy skiing.

How does the Hustle 9 compare to the Elan Ripstick 96 (and the 96 Black Edition) in terms of inbounds performance?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Both Ripsticks outperform it on firm snow and overall inbounds performance. There's actually a noticeable difference between the 9 and the 10 in regards to overall stability. Just being wider with more mass, the 10 feels stronger. On paper, there are more similarities between the Hustle 9 and Ripstick 96 than compared to what comes through on snow. Interestingly, the Hustle 10 is definitely a closer comparison to the RIpstick 106 than the 9 is to the Ripstick 96. Hope that helps!

Morning Gents, I have a pair of Rustler 9s and was considering a pair of Rustlers 10s to complement the 9s, would like to keep the weight down so would the Hustle 10 still complement the Rustler 9? Thanks Neil
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Neil! I actually think it would make more sense to get the Hustle. The Rustler 9 and 10 are such similar skis. Obviously there's a difference in width, but their overall feel and the experience skiing them is quite similar. Going with the Hustle would give you a different feel along with a different width. Seems like a cool way to go in my opinion!

Wondering about the length for these - I am 177cm tall and not sure to go with the 172cm for better touring manoeuvrability or the 180 for stability. Based in Munich so lot of tight European trees and back down snowy access roads. Have the Atomic Backland 100 in 180cm (with a Shift) but for some reason these just feel a bit too long. I miss my poppy Soul7s. Any thoughts?

How does the Hustle 10 at around 185 cm compare to Salomon QST 106 x 188 or Head Kore 99 x 178? Specifically turning radius and energy and tail grab coming out of a turn and surfy?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
Hustle 10 is bouncier and surfier. The QST is on the heavier side and likes to plow, but does so with more stability than the Kore or the Hustle 10. The Kore 99 is by far the strongest carver of the group, just so long as you can bend it enough to access the sidecut--they're quite stiff. If I were skiing pure powder, I'd go Hustle, but if the conditions are choppy and I want to cruise, I love the power and dampness of the 106. SE

Whats the best ski for me: I want a double tip, rocker, really light ski, 75-84, 155-170, I ski the mountain, but look for the trails and small bumps, no black diamond and no downhill fast, I like to ski the mountain, side to side. Thanks.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! It sounds like a narrower twin tip would be the best option for you. You might end up going a little wider than 84, however, as there aren't many skis that narrow with the characteristics you're looking for. Atomic Bent 90 would be a good example of something that checks all your boxes, but is a little wider than your range. The Volkl Bash 86 is similar, but a little narrower. There are quite a lot of options in that mid-80 twin tip category, actually. The other option for you, which I think worth considering, would be eliminating the need for a twin tip. I know you mention you want it, but I'm curious if you really need the twin tip shape? If you're not skiing switch or using it in the park, you could stick with a more directional ski that may be more beneficial. M-Pro 85, Atomic Maverick 86 C, Black Crows Vertis, Elan Ripstick 88, Rossignol Experience 86 Basalt, Volkl Kanjo 84, those would all be good directional all-mountain skis to consider.

@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Similar concepts for sure. Similar applications too. There are some differences, however. Ripsticks still are among some of the best skis for vibration damping out of all the skis out there that rely heavily on carbon for performance. Because of that, it gives them a very smooth feel, which is noticeable. On the other hand, skis like these Hustle 10s will feel more responsive and a little more energetic, at least that's the difference I feel. Hope that helps!
