For the latest Buick Envision pricing and information:
www.kbb.com/buick/envision/
It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Buick. This is the Envision and while it hasn’t seen a ton of changes since the 2019 model year it’s had a few.
A couple of years ago the Envision got some significant upgrades in the safety department. And we all know that safety first is key staying out of trouble. Automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator so you can tell how close the car in front of you in and a high def rear view camera are just a few.
It also got a 10-inch touchscreen on the interior. That was a first for Buick. Wow, that seems like such a long time ago.
More importantly it got a front end update that gives it a more upright grille, different headlights, a more defined angle from the hood to the windshield and some sharper trim details around the windows. Overall, the Envision’s small nip tuck made large improvements in its appearance. Applause here.
Otherwise, this is the same Envision. So, for argument’s sake we’re not exactly going to call this a midcycle refresh. My editor has such a great sense of humor.
Under the hood you’re still getting a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder (graphic: 228 hp/258 lb-ft torque). It’s not underwhelming, but it’s not exactly overwhelming either. That engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission that finds its gears just fine and does its job. Again, adequately.
When it comes to the suspension and handling, the ride in here is decidedly Buick-esque. Meaning comfort rules the day. It’s compliant and easy going
It gets a sport mode that heighten the driving experience a bit and it’s definitely spry.
For my money there are a couple of things I’m not a huge fan off.
First on initial acceleration there is a definite lag. Either that’s the turbo or the transmission taking a second to find a gear. Likely a combination of both.
The cabin is pretty quiet except when you’re getting it up to speed and the car is working hard. And visibility is only fair because that thick C Pilar gives you a significant blind spot. Amen for safety bells and whistles.
It gets 20-inch wheels, a programmable power liftgate, and an available panoramic moonroof. There’s diamond perforated heated leather seats with available massage, heated steering wheel, wood trim detailing, an available rear camera mirror.
It gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as wireless charging. Bonus. The Buicks is uncomplicated and quick. It’s one of the more intuitive ones out there.
And yes, this is the Avenir, but a lot of these features you do get on one trim level down the Essence, except for the wireless charging and ventilated front and rear seats. Those are only available on the Avenir.
The Preferred trim is the base model and on that interior you’ll get a slightly smaller touchscreen, smaller wheels, you don’t get a 7- or 9-speaker sound system, only a 6-speaker one, but compared to the RDX’s more than a dozen speakers you’re already on the back foot here.
You get respectable decent fuel economy (graphic: MPG: FWD: 23 city/30 hwy; AWD 22city/29 hwy) and you don’t really lose much is you opt for the power at all four wheels.
When it comes to price you’re looking at around $33,000 for the base model Preferred. The Essence will take you up to $37,000, and this Avenir starts at a lofty $41,300, but remember you’re getting a lot more features and tech, so if those are your priority the pricetag might be worth it.
So, it’s attractive, has a great interior and offers lots of premium features. If you’re looking for an upscale vehicle that doesn’t necessarily need to blow your socks of in the driving department, then the Buick Envision is one to check out.

Buick Envision is indeed a good looking reliable SUV, but there's a big problem with it, actually huge problem. The country of origin!! Unfortunately it's made in China!! 👎 Do we as patriotic Americans want to buy vehicles from a company in a country that's spying on us and sides with Russia in the Ukrane? No thanks!! I much rather buy an American made products from Toyota, Honda, Mazda, than from this Chinese build Buick! Period. 🤬

They lost their aim. The idea that the market doesn’t want sedans anymore is just wrong. There’s still a market; otherwise, the Germans, the Japs, the Koreans… would also quit cars, but they haven’t. The American manufacturers became lazy and focused to much on bland crossovers and trucks to the point that sedan from the Big 3 were no longer competitive with the rest. Buick lost its way many years ago losing its connections to its own heritage. Buick was once the muscle car as well as a solid premium vehicle. Even the Park Avenues and Lesabres of the 90s and 00s were solid and reliable, comfortable yet efficient and fairly powerful offerings. But everything GM suffered getting into the late 00s. The designs became lazier and more generic until they were doing nothing but badge engineering. People lost interest in the not-Buick designed Buicks. In the process, the Chinese fell in love with them and so Buick followed the money and have essentially abandoned the US market save for these blobs of crossovers that blend into the sea of other bland cuvs. There’s no reason that Buick never took the Camaro platform and refashioned it into a new Grand National, Regal, Riviera, or Wildcat… especially when the muscle car steam was hot. But no, it became rebased Opels and a rebadge Impala. Buick is sadly dead by its own hand. The new Wildcat concept is exciting, but concepts rarely become reality.

I actually like the integrated infotainment system with a touchscreen tilted towards the driver. So many cars have a floating tablet or don’t have a touchscreen and you have to use a knob or a trackpad. They complicate something so simple!

I had the Buick Envision as a rental car for a few days, and I really enjoyed it. I'm 6'4 and I was really comfortable. The seats are comfortable as well. The only thing that I noticed was that it was gear hunting at lower speeds, which got annoying. Other than that, it's a nice little crossover, that gives you a lot for your money.

Thank you, excellent review. I've been looking at the 2023 Buick Envision Avenir for the pass week and finally decided to purchase one. The only regret I have is the missing Blind Spot Indicator due to the chip shortage. The Buick Envision kinda looks like my current vehicle on steroids which is a 2020 MB CLA250 with the AMG appearance package. I love my CLA but we have recently purchased some e-Bikes. and need a hitch bike carrier. Actually, we were out biking 2 weeks ago on a bike path that passed in front of a Buick car dealership were the Envision made me do a double-take look, literally. I was so impressed by its appearance that I took a few pictures to remember which model it was and to check it out online. To be honest, Buick was never on my radar screen, I was thinking of purchasing a new MB GLA but the Buick Envision Avenir styling at it price point is an irresistible SUV.

I just bought a 2023 ST and I love it so far. I also was not considering a Buick but did a double take after seeing it. Lots of value and tech with AWD. I feel like it's just the right size - not too big or small. You could take it on a long trip with 2 or 3 people with luggage and I think it would be comfortable.

You might be one of the few drivers who don't follow too close to people, or maybe you don't drive in a congested city but the idea behind the indicator of how close you are following somebody informs folks that they are following too close and if every car and car user made use of these features our roads would be much safer, and traffic would flow a lot better. Not to mention how much it will save on your brakes and tires.

Honestly by the time you get a top trim of a mainstream compact SUV you are looking at Envision money. For 40k you can get a platinum 2023 escape in Canada or a base Envision. i'd rather have a base envision that a crappy Ford. the CRV sport is 43k in canada and again the envision is a nicer and more premium product.

The irony here is that Buick is the only American manufacturer that has been listed within the top 10 by reliability studies in recent years, yet, it’s best-selling models are manufactured in China and South Korea! This speaks volumes about American business ideology and, more broadly, it’s disdain for the unionized American workforce. Corporate America hates labor unions and American consumers don’t care as long as they can buy something cheaply. American consumers are “sellouts”. Union-management relations in the U.S. are adversarial, whereas in Germany and other Asian locations they’re collaborative. Jimmy Hoffa was a fool.

It has a rear backup camera for only backing up, I mean, you already have a camera there wired to the radio and stuff,why not make it record on a loop or something and while the "infotainment"system apparently is able to support video why not add a second dash camera on the same loop so it might help prove what happened in an accident or road rage incidents and all?I mean you're one camera and a few brain cells shy of having something really helpful to insurance companies might get a better rate or something.anyway, they sell millions of dashcam kits everywhere from online to truck stops and they should come standard on a decent vehicle.

I would STRONGLY advise anyone to avoid the Buick Envision. I bought a loaded 2022 Avenir. In 6 months of owning, I have needed to take the vehicle in for service no less than 5 times for a variety of issues. Most recently, electronic systems, including a very expensive repair that Buick refused to pay for, even though my car only has around 3500 miles on it and should be under full warranty. This is not the old GM, they do not stand behind the products. I only wish I had known better!

Hi David. Can you let us know what the issue was that Buick refused to cover?
@davidw5731
@davidw5731 Жыл бұрын
@@kaohsiung99 Sure, but it is a story. After getting other warnings I started getting a Front Sensor warning out of nowhere. The dealer addressed the other system warning issues. The dealer wound up taking both front end sensors off the car and switching them around. They concluded that somehow the one sensor got damaged (like a rock or something hit it). The front of the car was new and pristine without a single scratch, so the their assumption is that something damaged the front sensor and nothing else. It apparently did not initially look damaged, which is why they did the switch around experiment to come to that conclusion. They told me I could call Buick if I did not agree. I did call Buick, and their response to me was that they would have to accept the dealer's diagnosis. So, I wound up paying $650 out of my own pocket to replace this sensor, which I don't believe for one second was damaged in driving the car. How something could have only damaged this tiny sensor and not left a single scratch or mark on the vehicle is highly unlikely. I think the dealer did not want to eat the time to make the repair, so they made up a reason to charge me for this item. Terrible business practices!

The problem with Buick is the parts. Even to get a side mirror assembly it took them 5 months. Now imagine how much inconvenience one would face if some other part which can seriously hamper the movement of the vehicle needs to be replaced. No matter how much you complain or escalate the matter with GM, it will yield no result what so ever. The reason is that Buick shifted its manufacturing plant in China as they were having more sales in that country. Years later they decided to make a come back in the US market but forgot that customers have tons of other choices. I am sure retired senior citizens would prefer it even today as they did in their youth days.

Buyer beware! None of the 2023 Envision trims has lumbar support as standard feature - an unheard of gimmick at that price point (35K plus). All the other GM cars have it except maybe the base/base models. The design lunatic that made that decision needs to be fired tout suite. That's why I and none of my friends from the consumer club at work I belong to will be buying an Envision.

Wow I always liked Buick. It is nice to see that they are still around. Buick is to General Motors what Lexus is to Toyota. Except for some models basically a more luxurious version of Chevrolet. It is nice to see that the Envision doesn't share a platform with other General Motors vehicles. Buicks are awesome, than again I am old.

Cadillac is GM’s equivalent to Lexus, not Buick. Buick is in a weird middle ground where it’s not nice enough to compete with luxury brands, and a terrible value compared to mainstream brands
