As I put more time in on (demo) eMTBs, a new consideration comes to mind: battery size and rider weight. So in short this Shimano powered Evil comes up short as Shimano still only has a 630W battery. I’m 6’5” and about 240” in riding gear. Recently demo’d a Transition Repeater with this Shimano system. It was telling that I ran the battery down to 0 while my somewhat lighter friend on his 750W Rail still had 40% showing on his battery indicator. (We rode the same route together with two others, never used Turbo, and started with full charges.) My takeaway is that reviews should make mention of “hey if you’re a [x] size/weight rider, think about whether you want/need the 750W or bigger fuel cell.” YMMV, indeed.

I read the same thing years ago with the ep8 equipped Bullit, just seemed to drain way faster than it should be. Gets so frustrating when I find attractive bikes with good value but they're stuck with a shimano. I'm not trying to be a hater either, it's just the stories I keep on hearing of always being behind bosch giving me a bad impression

Shimano has been good for me I have a repeater able to get over 3500ft of climbing over 28miles of riding with 1 bar left that’s plenty for me but yes I feel reviews need to mention if your riding in boost the whole ride it’s not going to last
@LastAphelion

@@yofoo138 Repeater was probably the first ebike that had my attention since Transitions attractive seamless frame to rear triangle angle really grabbed me (made it hard to look at other brands that don't line theirs up lol). I just want them to release a PNW version like their Relay, mulletable, more travel, and a 700-900 battery option

Like always LOVE your reviews... I currently ride a Commencal Meta Power SX, but I was thinking of switching to this bike, Would you see an improvement, is more or less the same or is kind of a down grade in performance? Both have Shimano motor with 630 battery. I've ridden the Evil Wreckoning, that is kind of the same frame as the Epocalypse, and I liked it. I like to ride chunky flow terrain and some bike park trails...

Last year the Yeti was the most expected for me this one is the Evil. I rode a few non motor and to me they are flying oriented bikes ultra progresive suspension very poppy ... i guess an full ebike cant never truly shine on that so maybe its a try that went wrong or the terrain wasnt the best

Own one and love it. Wouldn’t want any other one. Don’t really have any of the issues they mentioned here. Little bit of a creak in the beginning but found a couple loose bolts. Once I torqued them to spec it’s been quiet since. Absolutely love this bike!

Riding this bike for a few months now on x-low setting and can't imagine anthing better on gnarly downs ! Rode a moded levo sworks with cascade long stroke with ext,rail,fully decked out wild etc and the epocalypse for me is by far superior on the descends with great geo and deep supportive suspension. It isn't the best tech climber for sure in x-low and Shimano's 630w system lack range compared to bosch/brose systems but if you value the downs more than other things testing this bike is a must ! Also worth mentioning,after about 4 months and alot of riding in dusty terrain,I have no issues with creaking,worn bearings,loosen bolts etc...

I have an amish Evil Insurgent and I would get that small bump chatter at high speeds until I upgraded the rear shock to a Push 11 6. It's a dream to ride these days.

How much you guys change things for individual riders? And who rides with left hand front break since some of you are moto as well.
@TheLoamWolf

Each rider sets up the bike/suspension according to their weight/preference. For coil bikes, if we have additional spring rates handy, we will swap those as well. Rob, being from the UK, runs moto style brakes and swaps brakes for every bike. Sourpatch will ride moto brakes too, but usually sticks to the standard setup.
