What if you round-off the mean from 28.666666667 to 29 is that also correct?
@GSCEMathematicsZone12
@GSCEMathematicsZone12 3 ай бұрын
It was going to be correct if the main question was asking us to find the mean and you would have written it correct to 3 significant figures as 29.0. But since we are using the mean as the road to the standard deviation, avoid such rounding, you can at least round it correct to 3 significant figures as 28.7 or just write the full number to avoidmistakes. Imagine if you keep rounding and shortening your answers in each step before you get to the Standard Deviation, it means that your final answer, which is the standard deviation may be highly affected. So, to avoid that, write the numbers in full or round them correct to 3 significant figures.

Why are you not including 7
@GSCEMathematicsZone12
@GSCEMathematicsZone12 3 ай бұрын
You mean the 7 at the far end of 28.6666667? During exams, mostly you are told to give your answers to 3 significant figures if the degree of accuracy is not specified. So, the 7 was omitted because whether the 7 is included or not, the final answer can still be written to 3 significant figures. Meaning whether the 7 is there or not, you can still round that number to 28.7 (3 significant figures). Hope this helps.

@GSCEMathematicsZone12
@GSCEMathematicsZone12 2 ай бұрын
Yes, for groupped data (data in ranges or class intervals) like the one in the question, you will always have to add the lower and upper class interval and then divide by 2, for you to find the midpoint.

Sir why are you dividing only with 2
@GSCEMathematicsZone12
@GSCEMathematicsZone12 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your message. We are dividing by 2 because that's how you find the midpoint of groupped data, data that is in a range. For example, the midpoint of the class range 0 < h < 4 is (0 + 4) ÷ 2 = 4÷2 = 2, also for 5 < h < 8 is (5 + 8) ÷ 2 13÷2 = 6.5 and so on. So, this is how you calculate the midnight of every groupped data by adding the lower limit and the upper limit and then dividing by 2. Hope this is clear now.
