I wasn't impressed by the new Nightster, it doesn't deserve the Special label in my opinion. I would much rather have a 1250t over the TFT display and the speed screen. It's sporty and quick, but the Sportster S doubles on all of that, worth the extra $2k??? Thanks for watching vatos, ride safe.

What other bike in this category would you recommend for the same price? Triumph’s, Indian’s Ducati’s are all expensive unless you want to go Japanese.

@@Stevel_ I like the Indian line-up especially the FTR Rally which is a beast. Problem is that Harley dealers control most of the territory where I live as the closest Indian dealer which there are not a lot of is 100+ miles away. On the other hand there are multiple Harley dealers all within a few miles of me.

@Rick Valenta lol, I already bought the Nightster last Nov and it has been great so far. If I do get another bike at some point in the future and sell the Harley, I do like the Triumph's and Indian's, especially the rally versions.

Agreed! I think the Rebel 1100 is better in every way. It even sounds better!

Not to mention the value. I got my 22 Rebel 1100 manual for 10.5k otd, and given this thing is stickered at 15k before any of the taxes/fees etc it's a no brainer. They need to be shoveling these out the door for under 14k to compete imo.

I'm sure you can, but you should contact the dealer. It should have the same wiring.

I also like the standard look better but wanted the newer instrument panel. Doesn’t look like it’s a go? What was the full cost you saw?

I don't see how Harley can possibly compete against Japanese bikes with the revmax engine. If Harley going to takes away the Harley styling and the Harley sound and makes a bike look and sound Japanese then what are you paying Harley prices for? I would just buy the Japanese bike from the beginning. The only way this motorcycle can compete is if Harley-Davidson wakes up and sells it at a competitive price.

@@khrisstake2210The bike I have with a fuel gauge is a Harley. All the bikes I had previous to it including another Harley did not have a fuel gauge.

I just don't like how the motor doesn't have very much torque on the bottom end; you need to be in the upper rpm range for the bike to start pulling. I think that most people that will ride this bike will be riding in town and not carving canyons, and the characteristics of this motor would not be exciting. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like feeling the raw punch when I leave the stoplight or just doing some horsing around. You cant call the Nightster a beginner bike, mainly because of the price. There are way better "Beginner bikes" out there for way less money, and this is coming from a guy that loves Harleys. That is just my opinion...

Yep, the Sportster S is well balanced when it comes to the sweet spot. Felt like I never really found it’s sweet spot, and the overall experience was lackluster compared to the Sportster S.

I rode the nightster last season and it was a fun bike but not worth the asking price. If I could get one between 8k and max 10500 i would probably buy one but not at the 15k after fees

I hate that they keep throwing that 70's logo on everything. That is the worst era for Harley and they're over there going LOOK! Remember when a bowling pin company owned us and our bikes arrived new at dealerships leaking oil!?

Agreed. Past that the colors clash, that ugly logo is all you can see when you look at the tank. Last year's graphic was far more appealing.

Dude went into it negatively and every little thing ... seat sucks...dunno where the turn signals are.... it's special "just because of the TFT". Forgot the raised bars, passenger setup standard, etc. It IS garbage they took the front headlight screen off the standard one now and it's a "feature" for the special, I agree. But honestly, show us another bike that's better in this class for the price. Plus, it's a Harley, people will be swapping out things like seats and things anyway to make it how they like if it isn't soft enough from factory for you.

The main problem with this bike is the price. It's just such a bad value. It's also not the prettiest bike, and the sound is weak. I'm going to have to say hard pass on the "Special."

I own the Sportster S and never for a second after seeing a review of the Nightster have I seen it as good value. The Nightster S is no different. You are taking away 27% of the power at 10% reduction in the price. The Sportster S actually stacks up well in the HP and torque against other naked bikes in the power range on price. The Nightster is nowhere near it. It is essentially an MT09 for $4,000 more out of the dealership. Styling is better on the Scout and tech is better on the Rebel. It tries to market to people that will never buy it and fails to bring in younger buys that might buy it. It is a bad bike.

The problem is that Harley nerfed the Nightster as to not step on the toes of the S. The Nightster is a better handling, more comfortable, more neutral-looking bike than the S is that would be more appealing to a wider base of riders if not for the fact the first year they absolutely skimmed on everything they could with it. To try and appease some, they offered the TFT in the second (but jacked the price for it) leaving it in a very weird spot. The Nightster would be a more optimal and neutral platform for them to have started with and built all the new Sportster lines off of. They could've offered a 500ci (or less) starter-type bike with 50-60hp & rider aids but no TFT, bluetooth, adjustable suspension, etc for a reasonable price and had their new updated 883...then add the 975 and 1250 with all the toys in new Roadsters or XRs and probably made a killing. Instead, they started with the radical S with it's weird ergos, styling, & fat front tire then packed it with all the power & toys. If they came out with a Nightster with the 1250, the mid controls, and all the stuff, it would absolutely outsell the S, but they know they can't do that without scrapping the S and taking a loss on it.

@@stevem4783 Sorry mate but I think you are wrong. The Sportster S is a street bike, not a cruiser. The 1250 engine was already in play with the Pan America The market for the Nightster is non-existent, both within the HD community and outside of it to encourage people to the brand. It is just not a good bike at the price. The Sportster S went after the Duke 1290, the Triumph Street Triple and the Ducati Diavel. It actually hit the design and price points. Swing arms around the back tyre are common on street bikes. Torque output is better although HP is lower. It makes an outside market look twice. The Nightster is a confused bike that never had a target audience. An MT09 blows it away. It looks like a cross between the Scout and the Honda Rebel and hits the market at 4-6K more dollars. The Scout needs an update, but just put it up against the Rebel alone. There is no way to bring in a new market on that bike and the entrenched market wants the Sportster 883 and 1200. They looked at the bullseye on the dartboard and aimed at the backing board anyway. The Pan America is great, the Sportster S is in the target area. I would only buy a Nightster if I had the money to keep it in the crate for 25 years. It will be one of the rarest bikes of the combustion engine era.

The first part is mostly true but the Sportster S has the dumbass forward controls and they charge like $600+ to get the proper mid-controls installed. I wouldn't say the Sportster S compares favorably to cheaper Japanese naked sportbikes at all. Like the MT09/XSR900. The way I see it, the Nightster should have been released as the "Sportster S" and then the 1250cc RevMax bike should have been the Bronx. What we know as the Sportster S shouldn't have even existed.
