More irony, I am originally from Akron, OH, with family in Flint MI. I still visit home, and Flint . I have always liked the Highlander, mainly the original version, which was a two row crossover. I never found it useful except when I was in real estate. However, being a soft gear head who was once studying engineering, I always migrated to V8's and high output V6s.. I think my next purchase is an F150. My family and I plan on attending the Detroit auto show this year, I will take a closer look at the Highlander then. I purchased a brand new 2023 Highlander Limited AWD on December 23rd, 2022. I came from a 5.7 l hemi V8 to this, and obviously it takes some adjustment. Like many, I do have concerns about the 2.4 l turbo in terms of longevity. I got the extended warranty, and we'll see how it goes. But I can also report that the engine feels strong. The car is very zippy and peppy. I would have preferred to have the straight V6 with direct injection, and I've owned a few cars with v6s. But power wise I've got to tell you that this engine with the torque ratio feels every bit as strong as those v6s. I also haven't noticed it being overly noisy. It's definitely a little noisier than a V6, and I don't know if that's the turbo or just the nature of a V4. Yet, it's nothing overly substantial. The only big difference I can tell is the shifting is a little choppier, but it's still smooth enough with the eight gear transmission. II will rarely ever drive this vehicle at acceleration rates enough to experience turbo lag. I like that it's not a CVT. So far, I really like the car a lot. Hopefully, with routine maintenance, everything will hold up well.

looks awesome, but the 4 cylinder turbo is not as smooth or dependable as the V6 . The car care guy explains this engine in his videos-Hes a master Toyota tech that is excellent

I would stick with the more reliable V6. Toyota’s focus must be towards the younger generation with the excess amount of red interior. I personally would prefer minimized red accents.

For sure on the V6. And a push button electric parking brake, no way. The only thing I like about this new model year is the tire pressure monitor shows each tire and the psi for each one. That's it.

Honda Pilot just redesigned their V6 which is much better than 2.4 turbo.

I am not in the market but if I ever am in the future I will certainly give the Pilot a looksie. For a Honda I really like the exterior redesign, a very handsome rugged look. And the V6 is where its at.@@zemo2332 I took my car in for service at Toyota today and was shopping a Lexus GX on their lot for somebody else, the saleslady I talked to told me a lot of people are really disappointed in Toyota downsizing their six into a turbo four for the Highlander.

Not to mention it'll feel like a total shtbox with a high pitched 4 banger screaming when you want to get into traffic and MOVE. I have already heard it get up and go in another video. No thanks, I would take a smaller Prius if I had too over a large SUV with that in it.@@zemo2332

I have a platinum 2023 and love it. I would say it’s a good family of 4 (family of 5 max) suv. We have two kids and we have plenty of space with the captain seats in second row although my 6 year old prefers the 3rd row. I would not recommend for families that have 4 kids or more at all.

How do have 2 Toyota’s in the Toyota app….can’t add wife’s 2021 and she can’t add my 2023. Says scan QR code or get 8 digit code from multi media screen…..only saw that during initial setup……if you have video of it please link….love your channel

I like the looks of it and the ruby red is really nice, though I would never buy another red car. And I do like the wheels on that XSE. The tire pressure monitor with each individual tire and the psi is awesome, I had that in my 2017 Edge and miss that particular feature a lot. Out of the gate Toyota deleting the V6 is an absolute no go for me, I don't want a heavier SUV with a four banger screaming bloody murder under the hood when I have to put my foot in it. The quiet, rumbling hum of my V6 means a lot. The tablet sticking up on the dash is something I do not like in newer cars these days. The electric parking brake is not good either. But no V6, I am satisfied with what I have already and if I were in position that I had to buy something I would go for an older model in the third generation. I like the dash, the console, the ambient interior lighting and the flip up hatch glass as well as the V6 and the six speed gear box much better. Overall it has a nice refreshed look but just isn't for me.

I totally concur with this assessment. i had no idea they got rid of the V6 for this vehicle. I'm glad i have a 2019 Tacoma and a 2020 XSE Camry (with a 4 cylinder, but that's fine for the Camry) and no stupid tablets!

I hate to say but I am thoroughly disappointed in the 2023 I looked at on the showroom floor this past week. Everything about it from the doors to the console and even the headrests all felt very flimsy, chintzy, cheap, lightweight and overly plasticky. There was so much flex in the center console it was unreal compared to a third generation model the console in it has no movement. The doors felt lightweight and hollow (no solid "thunk" sound when it closed) as I am sure they lightened it up in whatever ways they could to have that four banger pull it around. Sadly it felt like to me thay it had the fit and finish in the same league as an early/mid 2000's Corolla. The third generation Highlander, all of it feels like the solid Lexus quality from years ago, smooth and silky ride and drive, a quiet and capable V6. Not an overly built power house but it gets up and moves the way I need it and want it. Someday I will test drive a new one, I was at the dealer with someone else test driving and making a truck purchase so I skipped on driving the Highlander. I would also like to look at the Grand Highlander and even the Sequoia as well, make it three birds with one stone when I go to look again. This new Highlander looks great, very attractive design but looks alone won't cut it for me. @@davidwelday3276

Xse is the best looking Highlander. The new 4 turbo is nosier and slower than the v6 it replaced.

Those are exactly the reasons I've pretty much decided NOT to buy the Highlander. I don't like noisy at all, nor the lag factor. It's a crying shame. Think I may look at the Honda Pilot instead, can get that in a V6 still.

Took delivery of my 2022 XSE V-6 in October. So 2,200 miles all city driving and it averages 14.6 GPM. No way it going to see 21M.P.G. What's that about Toyota?

I thought the "multimedia" as you are calling it, is known in the auto industry as the "infotainment" feature ? Thanks for the video, you do a great job, I like the exterior light demo as a lot of the major player auto video journalist do not do. Ironically I must mention, I grew up in NC, just outside of Greenville / East Carolina, have a great weekend.

Sorry Jeff and Toyota, the turbo-powered 4 cyl. engine was a no-go for me when I was shopping for a new SUV (I'd definitely rather have the V6). I seriously did consider the Highlander until you dropped the V6 for fuel economy ratings....ordered the RAV4 Adventure instead. (I'd rather have the tried and true 2.5 L engine than the flameout turbo four...)

Love the vehicle, except the engine is a deal breaker for me, not to mention the added noise of a turbo, not to mention longevity and additional service issues you get with any turbo engine. Maybe will look at Honda Pilot, can get that with a V6.

Why does Toyota still not Match the 3rd Row with the 1st 2 rows? The 3rd Row is All Back, when the 1st 2 rows are Black and Red. It looks like an Incomplete Interior.

Just wanted to come here and this: it's all your fault Jeff. After watching your videos, it really sold me on replacing my '17 Sonata Sport with a '23 Highlander XSE AWD. So, I just did. Same beautiful red color as in the video, just minus the 12.3" screen and red interior. Thanks again Jeff! It's all your fault 🤣

Too much RED makes the Highlander ugly and cheap looking. Also, I would rather have the Highlander in V6.

Who buys a midsize SUV with this kind of interior? Someone who is bitter about needing a reliable people-mover instead of a sports car? Having driven it, the 4C turbo is a poor match for this vehicle frame. It feels and sounds borderline offensive compared to the smooth and tested V6. I can't imagine pushing it with a full human/cargo load or towing anything. Higher pressures, higher temperatures, more parts to wear out and break, and first-gen adoption? No thanks on the turbo. I love my 2022 V6 XLE.
