Today we're comparing the 2023 Honda Civic Type R (FL5) to the beloved Honda S2000 to see how it compares. Has the new civic inherited the raw, drivers-focused experience of the S2000? Or will it fall short? Let's find out.
Big thanks to ‪@Zygrene‬ for making this video possible. Check out his review of these cars here: • 2000 Honda S2000 vs 20...

So he’s basically ruined his CTR with that KW suspension that’d only work on track. And changing the suspension is why you’ve got the torque steer as he’s ruined the stock geo set up - set up to near eliminate torque steer. Still love both! Just stock for both

S2000! I love the red interior of the type R. I’ve been waiting since April for an allocation of a GR86 halo premium manual! Formula say my wait May extend into the fall for a 2024. Now, I’m contemplating an S2000 instead🤷🏾

Good analysis! Gotta say first video admitting the bouncing fl5 is a bit much. I mean it even shows up in other vids. That s2000 is on my future list

It’s a shame, all those extra research and performance addition to FL5, you add the same tires/wheels to the FK8 (nonLE) and I’m pretty sure it will be a better and faster car. The FL5 does have better shift due to lighter flywheel, and I do believe it has a bit better cooling. Currently daily my S2000 as oppose to the Type R. Type R sitting at 3000 miles

I have an s2000 modified for the circuit but I have to say I’m really a fan of how this new fl5 looks. Not a fan of fake engine noise though.

It’s definitely classier than any civic before

Is the wear and tear on a 22 year oldcar noticeable -- shifter, steering feel and response, etc ? Or does maintenance including replacing ball joints, bushings, engine mounts, etc keep it feeling like new ?

my 19 year old S2000 has a tighter feeling gear change than my FK8, but I have replaced shifter components and lubricate it to get it there.

Definitely noticeable compared to power mileage S2K I’ve driven. But agreed with Rik that even high mileage tired S2k had better shifter feel than new FL5

The Type R is so bouncy partly because of the evidently wrong Eibach springs. Also the lowering does not look good IMO.

Type R is already incredibly bouncy stock, per launch videos. The springs do make it worse though

That’s a 2022 vehicle. DBW has come a long way since AP2 V1 DBW systems. Loss of response comes from the turbo

The ride quality looks non-existent. I have a deposit on one of these and now I'm thinking of walking away. WTAF is going on with the ride????

@@JBOsurf it will bounce in R mode. It has been like that even on the LE model of Fk8. It’s a poor choice by Honda to tune it this way for a street car

@@JBOsurfbro stfu it’s usual for a sportier car to suffer in ride quality. Get a rolls Royce with the way your over reacting. Not a civic.

@@latuba2478 it was explained to me in a post above the car was on aftermarket springs which made the car ride even worse. A firm ride is fine. Bouncing all over the place in a road car isn’t. In my opinion. Which obviously doesn’t align with yours. That’s cool. Everyone’s different. Have a lovely week.

The pogo-sticking and torque steer is a deal-breaker for me on that FL5. I'll keep my GR Yaris and say bye bye to the FL5 on a badly maintain, wet, mountain road.

100% they lost their edge. I strictly drove accord coupes after the eclipse was discontinued. My last one was a 2014 accord coupe and I loved it. I’ve since moved to Toyota just because Honda got so boring.
