My 23 Pilot had a missing tire pressure sensor. I think it was scarier than serious but they took care of it and my car has been trouble free for a year, 12K, and I am happy with my decision. I did a lot of research on this engine before I signed on the dotted line. ‘Love your videos! Thank you!

A tire pressure sensor? That's like a $5 part. 10 years ago, we never had tire pressure sensors. We would actually spend 60 seconds and measure all 4 tires manually with a pressure gauge.

Early build ‘23 Elite owner with 17.5k miles now. Most reliable new Honda I’ve owned. Nothing has broken or stopped working so far. No warped rotors! Wireless charging is a bust IMO and have a 6.8mm panel gap on driver door (but still shuts with the typical Honda quality thud). Overall super smooth vehicle and very happy.

So far in 2700 miles it has been amazing over the last 2 months. Super smooth and quiet. Nice solid quality interior with Zero squeaks rattles or anything over large bumps or small bumps. Smooth Jseries engine. Trans and awd is also smooth. Drive train is smooth as a luxury vehicle buy just not that powerful. Feels very well built. Inside and out. Top notch Bose system too. 24 elite black/brown interior looks sharp but in a very understated and under the radar type of way. Hope it’s built to last like my older Hondas and Acura.

Had previously owned since new a 1990 civic, 2005 accord coupe, 2003 Acura TL, 2010 civic, 23 crv and now this 24 pilot. Always kept the vehicle within our family. Always been great. @@BCautosolutions Thank you. Here is the short history of my high mileage 99 RL. Bought it in 2007 for $3800 with 213K miles from the original owner. He used to have vending machine business at rest areas, and he drove to perform break fix and collect funds. That is how he put his miles, and he meticulously maintained the car: 4K miles oil changes and every 3rd oil change drain and fill Trans oil and every 6th oil change replace transmission filter. When I bought it, I just started working as a consultant and my job also required lots of driving and did that without worries until 2017 when I changed my career. So, I put about 375K miles and still runs. My service history was the same and did exactly what original owner did. So far, I have the original C35A12 engine and the 4-speed transmission. I replaced the radiator twice, AC compressor, brake master cylinder, rebuild the calipers, power steering rack, 2 alternators, ball joints, struts/shocks, all 3 O2 sensors 2 times, washed the catalytic converter twice and clean EGR passage tube 3 times while replacing all the seal top of engine. And original fuel injectors, and I have performed 4 timing belt changes (DIY) which all these are wear and tear and nothing failed prematurely. I doubt these new Honda/Acura have same quality build. Key is maintenance and I can say I follow mine the best possible.

Only annoyance in my 2500miles of ownership is a rough 8-7 downshift while cruising around 60-70mph. Repeatable every time and many others on the forums have commented on the same issue . Very little assistance from dealers stating “it is a trait of the car”. Hopefully a software update in the future will address it. Not a huge annoyance but to a lifelong manual transmission driver, it feels like a gear grind and makes me cringe. Rest of the shifts are butter smooth and if you are more aggressive with the throttle at this speed, it drops to 6th gear which goes in smooth.

Thanks very much for making this video - we just drove home a 2024 Pilot Elite yesterday, putting about 80 miles on it. Thankfully it was rattle-free (those really bug the crap out of me) as it should be brand new. Love it so far (for the 20 hours of ownership) 🙂 Do you know what running changes have been made on the assembly line since the 2023 came out? Hopefully those window problems have been addressed. Overall though it sounds like it's been a solid release of a brand new model. This is my first Honda, so I'm crossing my fingers that it will make me proud by running great for at least the next decade (we still have a 2001 Suburban so we keep our cars until the wheels fall off.) Quick question that you have probably addressed already: I'm a stickler for proactive maintenance, so, at what mileage would you recommend replacing the timing belt (and whatever is nearby)? I would much rather pay the price of the replacement belt versus the price of a new engine :-) :-) And what other maintenance do you suggest I do earlier than what the manual says? For example, I really like changing the oil on a new engine around 500 - 1,000 miles just to get any of the bits of metal that will come free like any other normal car engine. What do *you* suggest? And, if I pay for my own early oil change, will the Honda dealership change it (as part of the 2-year "free" maintenance) at the recommended interval, or must the light come on indicating 15% remaining oil life before they will do the change? So anything else that you think ought to be in the maintenance schedule that isn't, or ought to be at a more frequent interval, please let us all know. Thanks again, and Happy New Year!
@BCautosolutions
@BCautosolutions 5 ай бұрын
First of all congrats and best luck. All the issues we encounter get reported back to Honda so hopefully they addressed those first year bugs and hiccups. I’m all about proactive maintenance, I have a video on this from a few months back. I personally like to do my first oil change at 1k, then at 2k, then every 3k from there one. Timing belt, water pump, and drive belt at 90-105k or at 7 year mark. It’s too early To tell if any seals may need to be addressed at that time due to the new vtc system but on the old engines (non vtc) no seals typically leaked with the exception of the oil pump seal, that’s a case by case situation. Keep up with the maintenance (all fluids every 30k, filters once a year, wipers every 6 months, rotates every other oil change and you should be in good shape. If you change your oil on your own and are trying to use the free maintenance just simply don’t reset the maintenance minder when doing your own oil changes and take it in when the 15% finally shows up.

I have 18K miles on my elite. My puddle lights went out within a month. From what I hear the replacements stop working too, so I'm not even going to have them fixed. The other issue is when the HVAC fan is on during cold days something rattles until the cabin warms up. Again, not sure if it's even worth fixing. Plus it would be nearly impossible to replicate at the dealer by the time I drive there and it has warmed up. Other than that, I absolutely love my Pilot.

Coming from toyota and changing into a pilot elit 23 from rav4 limited i can see the different pros and cons both brands have but overall quality control is very low on honda. Ny rav 4 was a model from japan not US or canada made, so quality control was tight but honda had paint spectcles i see fogging on my hood paint light painting over weld points. Welds not even grinded smooth is almost as if they were in a rush. Rear passenger seat had a big burn pattern like someone took an iron and pressed it against the seat. Honda dealer told me it was normal nd i can always have the seats changed under warranty "supposedly " My driver side puddle light went out. My driver rear seat in second row window shade rip off randomly and rolled back into the door. My passenger side roof rail had a loose weather strip somehow it came loose broke umoff and vonstantly whipped on the roof. Took it to the dealer they ripped it off and other new strip they said is on back order and i have to wait though. Ive nvr mounted anything on the roof racks so this was just failure. Maybe is a honda thing or a pilot thing but when you let go of the wheel the car always pulls left. I had 3 alignments done. Dont let them fool you with the automated aligment the machine reads when you bring your car into the honda dealer, most dealers have this new built in aligmenet in the floor where a computer reads your tire tread and alignemmet. I pused for a real alignemet done by the laser mavhine and they realized i did have a mis alginenent. They supposedly correct it but my car was still pulling left then they thought of aligning ny sterring wheel because my honda badge on my sterring whel was crooked. Car still pulls to the left. I gave up. The automatic cruise control, dont count on it it works when it wants to work. Itl pick days where the car whil drive onto another lane without reason. Is not consitent on my toyota i was able to let it steer without issues as long as is not a hard curve but with honda i cant trust it. All i can is the pilot is very spvious and is something toyotras dont really offer since they go for the low roof sporty roof. I tested it in the snow storm we had here in ny yesterday and there where some scary moments but regained control. It did well. I dont like the hard set safety features. The car wont accelerate if your door is ajar or open. Sometimes itl let you but innan emergency this can be fatal if your tryna run away from say.. a wild animal if your offroading or camping or a zombie hoard. Your car wont take offf because someone in panic left the door open. That to me is stupid. Also auto start will cool the car to 72 degrees only. Toyota lets u autor start and the car cools to wme setting you had it as in full balat ac on a hot day. I appreciate the setting it has on autostart for einter time , if is less than 42 degreess itl trun on the heated sterring wheel heared seats and heat the car to 72 degrees. I also appreciate honda giving us for free the roll down windows with key remote option. Sometjing toyota would charge you for. Like i said , theres pros and cons. If you get an elite please know the car is going to sag on the left read side. The rear left wheel has a compartment above it for the wheel replacement items, so the metal jack and bar and other equipemnt is all located there thus creating weight on the suspension so the car sags a little so dont go thinkin u have a bad tire or your suspension is bad. I advise you blast the heat on your new pilot when you get it to stress out the heater and get whatever new fumes it may produce. It is very toxic. When i started using the heat there would be times id get this horrible smeel of like burnt rubber or wires in the car. I assumed it was the heater off gasing since i got the car in the summer and i am now in the winter time. Ofgas it so u dont have to deal with it with your family. If your curious to what this smell is like youl always smell it when you step out of the car for soem reaosn when you get out of th pilot theres this heat wave under the car it bruns your legs and has a mechanical burnt smell. Same smell that sneaks inside the cabin with the heater. But is always there atleast in my pilot elite.

These newer engines seem to be thirsty for oil. My first oil change was done at 3k, which alert was given of low oil level of 50%. Current oil levels at 9k is 30% but I’m considering just adding oil cause honda care only covers 2 oil changes per year at due recommended 6k miles intervals. Bummer there are alot of issues in the first few thousand miles of owner ship. Starting to see they’re affecting the market value of these models and basically giving them out at drastically reduced below msrp prices these days since few many people would purchase them due to inventory build up and strategic production release.

Honda wanted the engine intact. So both got long blocks. 1 was torn down and the other was replaced due to the same reason. We could put a scope in the cylinder and see exactly where the coolant was leaking. Matched the previous one we had torn apart. Concerns were no heat in cabin in the rear and white smoke on start up. No overheating. Split was right dead center along the rear gasket. Perfectly center on the middle cylinder hole. Top to bottom of gasket. Literally like it was folded.
