Target Audience:
Statement of Need
This program will address how implicit bias is a contributing factor to health disparities and explore how healthcare providers can explore their own implicit biases to identify unconscious decisions and actions that may negatively affect patient outcomes.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
1. Define the impact of historical racism and other forms of invidious discrimination on the provision of healthcare.
2. Utilize methods of evaluating the presence and extent of implicit bias.
3. Examine measures that may be taken to reduce implicit bias.

Norton Healthcare Institute for Education and Development is approved with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This continuing professional development activity has been approved for 1.5 contact hours. In order for nursing participants to obtain credits, they must claim attendance by attesting to the number of hours in attendance.
