It would be nice if teams are not grouped according to conferences (east/west) it would be better if every group have random teams from east and west to create great match ups of teams from both conferences, but two slots in every group still based on the previous record. I like the idea of this but it seems more important for players than fans. I don't think many fans care if these multi millionaires make another $500,000 for winning. I like that the games will count toward the regular season but why not the championship game??? It should be worth more. I think they could make a point system with the regular season wins 1 point. And getting to Vegas in this tournament teams earn an extra point and winning the tournament get 2 or 3 points. Heck, you could throw in a single elimination tournament toward the end of the season teams could get a chance to make some big regular season points that way.

I see, the draw is like that of fiba, where groupings are based on last season's rankings. One team from ranks 123 is grouped with a team from each of rank 456, 789, 10 11 12, & 13 14 15. But it would be more interesting if the nba ranks the team like how fiba ranks the national teams and base those groupings on it instead of just the previous season's standings.

Do these count as part as the 82-game season or separate? The winner of this tourney, how does that compare to the Finals Champion? So we could have 2 different Champs or a team could win both. This is so pointless. Why not just have an end of the season tournament for a few teams to make the playoffs? I understand they want to build excitement but nobody really cares. I mean can you imagine the winning team acting like they just won the championship when winning this midseason tourney? I dont think it will garner much for the league to be honest. It wont change much for anyone. Even an end of the season tourney wouldnt do much cause most #8 or #7 seeds arent making the finals though i know the Heat just did and they also lost 4-1 in the finals. Hell I'd rather see a tourney of bad teams for the #1 or #2 draft pick 😂. Or give the tourney winner home court advantage but then again regular season success should matter. I just think its all kinda pointless and wont change much.

$500K prize is good, but in addition to money, I think a better incentive for players and teams to win the in-season tournament without disrupting the larger playoff picture too much would be to give the winning team the following: - if the winning team advances to the playoffs/play-in tournament: the ability to flip one of their road games to a home game, whether it is in the play-in tournament or playoff series. But the team can only use this ability one time, so the team has to decide when to use it, i.e. if they are confident about winning the current round, they can save it for use in the next round. - if the winning team does not advance to the playoffs/play-in tournament: the ability to flip one of their draft picks with the team directly above them in the draft order. For example, if the winning team has the 10th pick in a particular year's NBA draft, they can choose to flip the 10th pick with the team owning the 9th pick in that year's draft, meaning that the winning team will move up one spot to the the 9th pick and the original team with the 9th pick falls one spot down to the 10th pick.
