I own a 2021 Ninja 400 and a 2018 Z125 Pro. I am over 50, been riding for more than 30 years and if I am just riding around town I will take the Z125 every time. I like the 400 a lot but the Z125 is so much more fun to ride around on. I save the 400 for the freeways/highways.

I purchased one two weeks ago and I would say the 45 mpg would be closer to the actual mpg. Its a fun bike to ride. I put a cheap amazon exhaust (Yosayusa) that sounds great along with fender eliminator. I have a 2015 gsxr 750 and find myself wanting to ride this little one more often. Btw, mine cost 3,622.09 OTD (total) for those curious.

I'm picking mine up on the 3rd and I can't wait. Never ridden before and obviously I'm still nervous about it. I've already picked up some gear nothing fancy or crazy expensive but I also can't (wont) be doing insane speeds on this thing lol I simply want something inexpensive to learn on before I upgrade to a 400. I simply need something to get back and forth to work and to ride around my home town on a few back roads. I'm 5ft 4in so I think this is perfect for me to start on. I'm just gonna be happy to be on 2 wheels honestly. There's tons you can do to these bikes and most repairs are quite simple from qhat people have told me so I'm looking forward to riding and working on mine🔥💯🤙

I live in Helena, MT. I use the Z125 as an after work shift decompression machine as well as something that i use to pick my kid up at school (1 mile away + no busy streets) and an errand runner. This bike is an absolute hoot. I get between 90-100MPG. I did just put Maxxis 6024 dual sport tires in yesterday. I tested it on a dirt road today. The tires feel phenomenal on dirt/gravel. I can tell they do NOT do as good on the road. They don't roll as long and aren't as immediately responsive. However, they are a good compromise in a place like Montana with lotsa wilderness to explore!! Thank you for the content Peter!

Peter, I want to go in gravel roads here in Helena MT. The stock tires of the Z125 Pro kinda suck for traction. (I have a 2022 black/red one). Have you heard of the Maxxis 6024 tires? I came upon a front tire. Should I buy a rear 6024 or can I keep my street tire on the rear and only have a front knobby?
@PeterLoweOne
@PeterLoweOne Жыл бұрын
I'm actually Peter. I'm not the best guy to ask about tires. I would check with your local dealer and see what they recommend. Having said that, I'm not a fan of a front and rear tire that don't match. It could cause unpredictable handling. So it's not what I would do, but that's just my two cents worth.

I’m 5’7” 135 lbs and got a 2023 Grom. Buy the Honda even if it’s just for the fact it has a 5 speed. That extra gear helps. I’d never ridden before and a couple weeks later I was comfortable going 55.

This looks like competition to the Grom which now has a 5 speed. Is there talk of them upgrading to the 5 speed for next year? I think this sized bike would be a blast to own as a second bike to horse around on.
@PeterLoweOne
@PeterLoweOne Жыл бұрын
Yeah this is a direct competitor to the Grom. I don't have information on what might happen for the 2024 model year, but this is the 2023 and it has a 4 speed. I'm not sure that the extra gear adds any more fun on a bike like this. So I'm guessing they'll keep things as is unless people demand a 5 speed. As long as this bike remains fun, they'll continue to sell them. I agree, this would be a great second bike to have a blast with! Thanks for watching!
@pcthayer
@pcthayer Жыл бұрын
@@PeterLoweOne I just checked and another competitor to the GROM (and the Z125) is the Benelli TNT 135 and it looks like for 2023 they got a 5 speed too, so I'm sure Kawasaki might consider upgrading if this impacts their sales.
@PeterLoweOne
@PeterLoweOne Жыл бұрын
@@pcthayer yeah. I guess it depends on how many they plan to sell. It's not like this is a segment that they need to dominate. To me, this strikes me as a bike that Kawasaki doesn't need to worry about being class leading. In my mind they've already got the Z400 and Ninja 400 which is a real class leader. So I'm not sure that they'll spend too much money tweaking this when there may be other lines of bikes where the same amount of research and development money may turn a higher profit for Kawasaki. That's just my two cents.
@pcthayer
@pcthayer Жыл бұрын
@@PeterLoweOne Guess you are right. That Z400 seems like a nice bike, but I don't think they are selling it here this year, but still selling the Ninja. I can't wait to see you review the new ZX-4R and ZX-4RR. (they certainly are unique but expensive for a 400.....Guess you buy them to track, or save them in your garage as a future collectible.)

In fairness, this is not a good beginner bike. It does not have the performance to give a new rider the experience they’ll need on a freeway capable motorcycle. These bikes are best suited to riders who already have another motorcycle and just want something fun. It could certainly make a great work commuter providing your route has speed limits within its performance limitations. If you just want a small displacement bike to learn on, take an MSF course and learn on one of those Honda 250 Rebels.
@PeterLoweOne
@PeterLoweOne 7 ай бұрын
I think it depends on what you want in a beginner bike. Are there more versatile options? Absolutely, would this be the first beginner bike that I recommend? No. Do either of those statements mean that this isn't a good beginner bike? No. The reality is, right now there are some great beginner bikes on the market, and having great ones doesn't mean that this isn't a good one.

A small bike doesn't really benefit from too many gears. While in theory, extra gears mean extra performance, extra gears also means gear ratios that are more closely spaced. What that does on a small engined bike is create the need for constant shifting. So you want gears that are a little more widely spaced to give the performance, but also the rideability. Hopefully that makes sense.
