Nice review. It would be good the mention the other varients as they are sometimes better value. E.g. my pick is the base model because it has a few features that are better than the higher specs. It has a 30L larger boot, it has wireless Apple CarPlay, it has the more comfortable suspension and the better fuel economy. Two things it lacks is a boot cover (can be added) and a rear armrest that can't be added without replacing two thirds of the back seat. Still my pick though.

For practicality to live with, which would you buy with your own money? 2Lt or 1.6Lth turbo???
@Drivecomau

I'd go for the 1.6 turbo, for that mid-range responsiveness and overall improvement in power. - Sam
@351tgv
@351tgv Жыл бұрын
@@Drivecomau - Sam I think the torque curve is something like 265Nm from 1,600rpm to around 4,000rpm, that is nice mid range, more than enough for all your needs in this market segment. example: look at the Mitsubishi ASX with its NA (Naturally Aspirated) 2.0L engine, 198Nm at 4500rp, drivers have to push the engine and combined with CVT well you can figure out the rest, even the bigger 2.4L NA 4cyl has only 228Nm at 4,500rpm, turbo petrol is all about mid range torque these days not peak power which in reality is only needed for getting up to highway speeds mid range torque lets you stay there in a top gear without the need to rev the crap out of the engine.

I was looking at one of these, or a Stonic, but that beeping issue wouldn't be an issue if it stayed off, but having to turn it off every single time you start the car? That's a massive turn off, same with the fuel economy. Shame, it seemed like a solid car, and for the price the issues shouldn't be what they are

We've covered the Seltos Sport+ with the 2.0-litre non-turbo engine here: www.drive.com.au/reviews/2023-kia-seltos-sport-review/ Although it's not quite the Seltos Sport, the powertrain is the same, just with some added equipment. Keep an eye on the website though as we'll have a Sport review coming soon.

That beeping begins the moment the speed limit is exceeded by just one kilometre. Also, the option to turn it off is buried deep in the menus. It was bad enough to be a dealbreaker for me ☹

Mr Kia wisely said, how about you drive legally within the speed limits all the time & you'll never hear the annoying beeps🤔?. And annoying they should be, coz they are warning you that you are breaking the law speeding🙄?. The car does not wish to be your accomplice in breaking the law & endangering all road users😂?. The cars should have speed limit kill switches, not beepers , for 5km+ over😁?. So many drivers today think speeding 5-10 km over the speed limit is just normal & called just being in a little hurry🙄?. You see it every day on the roads?. Just a few k's over & a couple of seconds😳, & so many people's lives are instantly changed forever 😥?.

Too bad you can’t actually buy one. There are zero discounts and you have to wait 8 months. The prices are also very high. The speed detection system is also an own goal. It makes the Skoda Octavia wagon look like a bargain.

@@Drivecomau I would given how it offers superior space and value. The negatives for the Skoda are the soft high wear euro brakes, 95 RON, lower ride, plastic water pump designed to die young. Given the 7 year warranty I’d take a punt on the Octavia.

near 10L/100km for something that small is absolutely disgraceful
@351tgv
@351tgv Жыл бұрын
@@Mububban23 - not really, look at the torque curve, 265Nm from a small 1.6L 4cyl means the turbo is on BOOST a lot and throw in short gearing (since tis an 8-speed) you have to expect higher fuel consumption, also on-demand AWD has added around 120kg extra weight more weight more fuel. So instead of saying something is disgraceful maybe do some research to find out what is the cause.

Sam was driving in and around North Sydney / Wollstonecraft for this video review, even Hybrids are doing around 8L in and around North Sydney / Wollstonecraft, the average speed would be 35km/h and hilly terrain so Hybrids would be switching to petrol power very fast so a turbo petrol with short gearing (since its an 8-speed) would also be consuming petrol at high rate, that said get the vehicle on a more falser speed roads no doubt the fuel consumption will improve to around 8L per 100km.

You could probably get better figures, but this engine/gearbox/AWD combo is never going to be best in class for efficiency. - Sam
@351tgv
@351tgv Жыл бұрын
well people want power and from a small displacement 4cyl the TURBO has to make more BOOST and when you add those two together ? the answer is more fuel consumption. that said the inclusion of a 8-speed torque converter over the awful junk that is DCT makes the added fuel consumption so much more accepting. The other issue is the nanny intrusions, clearly KIA have been spooked by some stupid law suit somewhere in other countries probably the land of law sits the USA so it has inflicted every car they make with those stupid nanny crap, shame it is buried somewhere in the sub menus and not a physical button that can be easily switch off, it should not be up to KIA to determine how you drive the vehicle, that said I wonder what the courts would say if you have an incident as you were occupied by having to do stupid sub menus operations and BAM accident because you were focused on other thing than driving. Just a thought KIA.
@Febzi57
@Febzi57 Жыл бұрын
Hi I have heard that it can be turned off from the steering wheel settings instead of sub menus. Also there is talk of some consideration to adjusting this to some thing similar to USA where we can adjust it to 5 -10 kms over before the beeping.
@351tgv
@351tgv Жыл бұрын
Nope the option to switch off the overapeed is in 3 sub menus. Also since this review did not mention it the speedometer is off by 5km/h, so at an indicated 60km/h the real vehicle road speed is 55km/h. There is no way to change that (unless you opt for taller tyres which would change the gearing). So yeah KIA need a physical button or in the software an option to permanently switch that warning system off as KIA have no right to tell you how to drive your car.
@Febzi57
