I've owned a 2019 JCW for almost 2 years and this car is an amazing daily driver. Absolutely Phenomenal. The power might not be as much as some of the competition but it makes it up in quality of life; in spades. Those headrests he mentioned are rotated. They fold back so that you don't have to adjust the front seats to fold the back or if you want better rearview visibility. He could just rotate them back upright as that plastic goes on the back. There are locker arms that fold out to adjust the back seats to lock in a fully vertical position so that you can get a square shape trunk without folding the seats completely. The rain sensing wipers are absolutely perfect in how they treat intermittent drizzle. The iDrive control is so easy to use that I never use the touchscreen, for everything else the voice control does a good job(you can use voice control to navigate to menus while driving, like adjusting the equalizer or driving mode settings). If you have an android phone there is a AndroidAutoiDrive app on the Play store that even lets you mirror your phone screen. The auto start/stop toggle is permanent, you don't have to toggle it every time you start the vehicle (it will turn on when put in green mode but I can't imagine using green anyway). The center armrest rotates up and also ratchets up AND down so you can easily use that iDrive controller without moving your elbow. The rev-matching it does between gears is flawless. It has the easiest smoothest shifts, just know that there is no rev matching to and from 1st. The only difference between this car and mine is the new driver gauge is a semi digital display(those needles are still analog it's only the center portion that's actually a digital screen) and the head unit has a newer UI look. I am 6'2" and I have room to spare. My friend is 6'7" and still doesn't have the seat all the way back(not that we are fitting anyone tall behind us, but if you're seating 5 you're buying the countryman). And seriously, these seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in. The Focus RS Ricaro seats were too much, the Golf R are too little, I have spent a lot of time in the competition and I keep coming back to the JCW cause it's just a better package. The build quality, the materials, the controls, all better. I’ve always loved the idea of a mini as an urban runabout, easy to park in tight spaces, fun to drive, and completely unique in its styling, but I could never bring myself to justify getting one over a Golf/GTI, especially when you start comparing the models and lining up the features. The 0-60 performance isn’t so great, the interior space isn’t nearly as useable for the back seat or trunk, and the ride is more firm than I’d like, so I ended up getting a Golf and have enjoyed it ever since. Still love the Minis for sure, but to me it’s one of those super unique vehicles where the people getting them are those that specifically want a Mini and nothing else. Similar to people buying a VW beetle when they were still around. There’s “competition”, but these sorts of cars are in a class of one.

Mini owner here, couple things.. The rear head rests also flip up when a person sits there, the lid in the trunk lifts up and holds itself in place or you can easily pull it out, the rear seaback has two positions for more trunk space,the center console knob is also touch control on the top, you can customize the dash ring many ways, the glove box is heated and cooled, the buttons are physical so you can keep you eyes on the road. I can listen to the engine and combined with the simple heads up display I know when to shift it's very useful. Btw, I have taken motorcycle guys for a ride and they were astonished at the cornering and torque, very fun and does alot with a little.

Mini just started offering manuals on their build sheet again, so hopefully they took care of the supply issue. 2 weeks ago it was automatics only. Still sucks because the MSRP accounts for the automatic price increase.

I bought JCW in 2004 and owned it for 18 years. I miss it as daily driver. You can squeeze this thing in every little spot on 401. I miss the sound of that supercharger. It was even good in winter snow storms. Just turn off traction control. I don't miss it on longer trips. Would buy it again ? Yes.

best review so far-and it isnt close (though the goofy laugh-grin -athon wrt exhaust on straightpipes had appeal). i have never seen this channel before and i dont know squat about this guy-i think im completely unbiased about the channel - a great 14 min. the first 30 seconds almost had me leaving but man this was good. totally agree about the door handles (first reviewer to mention in out of about 20 now). watching everything b/c i am buying one in the next month. ps-the 0-100 is so over-rated. i drive like a complete nutter and have dozens of speeding tix to prove it but no way i care about an extra .5 or .6 sec from 0-100 (and though it translates fairly well it isnt a lock: the most important speed measure imo is a combo of 0-50kph, 40-70ish kph, and 90-100ish to 140ish kph...i have yet to every see any channel even bring this/something like these up)

Drove my friends 2023 JCW 8speed auto that's a week old. Was hopping my buddy didn't notice me catching myself from falling asleep while driving it around the city. Very nice cruiser and comfortable... Didn't push, cause it only had 124km, but transmission was transparent and very punchy on the take-off. Probably could put on crazy heavy performance wheel and it would upset the zen driving feel.

I should also add I wouldn't buy new I bought a 2015 for 16k with every option. I think for a second hand car for daily and fun drives it's perfect. You wldont get bored of the interior if your over 6ft I'm 6"3 plenty room as the driver and all around the front but nobody can sit behind you. Its a great car.

Got the 4/5 door cooper s version and here in the UK that’s good for 190bhp and 220 lbs feet. It’s fantastic and with the slightly longer wheelbase it’s a little better ride wise. With a £350 remap and no mechanical changes it will up to 245bhp and around 280lbs feet. Good for 0-100 kmh in 5.8 secs. A beast in sheep’s clothing.

They are very nice I did test drive one. But it's to big for me it's not a mini anymore. I have a 2011 and 2008 and the 2011 feels fast then the 2022. I'm sure I will enjoy my 2jz All wheel drive mini cooper build can't wait.

gosh...some facts - competition for mini are : fiesta st, polo gt, hyundai N20i, ...not golf gti, or mentioned veloster - they are upper segment.

While these are different and cool, there are so many better options for 38k. Like you have to admit that’s nuts. You can buy a 230i for essentially the same price, and I’d argue it’s about as useable, faster, and rwd. Unfortunately no manual tho. Love to drive a mini, but realistically it’s 8k too expensive for what it is.

Outside of the USA and Canada they have plenty of competition. Polo GTI, Fiesta ST, Peugeot 208 GTI, Audi A1 40TFSI, Renault Clio RS(Although out of production at the moment), etc. Once the Opel Corsa OPC comes out, that will be a competitor. And yes, I know those are more inline with the cooper S rather than the JCW, but you get the point.

I've got the 2020 JCW, but in the UK, and comparing it to the much larger Golf GTI (which is a vehicle class above this in terms of hatch size) is unfair. The VW Polo is the same class size (and the Ford Fiesta ST etc.)

I’m waiting on delivery for my 4th Mini. A 2 door hardtop S. I’ve had an S with manual trans this is an automatic. When I drove a 2 door that was not an S it was plenty fast. I barely hit the gas and I could do 70. I think I’m buying an S that I don’t really need. Oh well.

I own a 2008 jcw and i love it. Its my second car but i don‘t want anyother car on this planet. Its light, fast, sounds awesone and i can get about 7.9 l per 100 km if i drive eco. But then why shoud i buy a jcw😌

You definitely worry about the fuel mileage in a Mini, I regularly drive a 2011 Cooper S convertible automatic and I get half the mileage of my uncle's 90's Toyota Corolla 🤦

I see the appeal of MIni's---the looks...it's the MR. Bean car...heh BUT for cars their size they carry a bit too much weight e.g. Clubman JCW at 3500 pounds 0-60 4.7s. vs a VW Golf R/300ish HP/lighter/0-560 3.7s....is it as "tossable" as a Mini? Shrug...I think the Mini's agai..have more appeal in the looks dept....just needs to shed some poundage...without sacrificing sound isolation....
