The problem wasn't the CG trailers. If we got some exciting looking single player games from Sony it would have been excellent.

I was missing Kojima Productions (DS2), Sucker Punch, Team Ninja, Bluepoint and obviously Naughty Dog. I was also hoping for finally a Bloodborne remaster. This is what gamers want and not anime bullshit, VR or all this copy paste multiplayer garbage.

Spiderman 2 was unique? It was just really good.

Lmao, you shouldn’t be surprised ND has said nothing about Factions. Neil Druckmann spent 7+ years, almost a decade to release the sequel. He takes his sweet time yet ND is notorious for giving their devs abysmal crunch time. Factions should’ve been in TLOU2 day 1 just like TLOU1. That didn’t happen because Neil just *had* to do his bs vanity project and release his own personal artistic vision that was already rejected by TLOU1 co-writer Bruce Straley. It’s honestly insane how it’s already been almost 3 years and *nothing* has been said, discussed, and even briefly mentioned by ND about Factions. I personally think that Factions not showing up yet isn’t a Sony issue…it’s a Neil Druckmann and ND issue. Do not be shocked if Factions releases 1 1/2 - 2 years later and it ends up being filled with unnecessary micro transactions. Expectations are way too high for Factions and I feel like it’s gonna result in disappointment :/

I feel like people go into these things with unreasonable expectations, which sets up for inevitable disappointment. That said, Sony seems to be really out of touch with what their core audience wants. It's mindboggling.... the people watching this showcase are really not the target audience for the majority of these games.

7.5/10 is way too much for this thing, I’d give it a 5/10 and without Spider-Man a 3/10.

I said somewhere that I'm most looking forward to surprises from this show, and this is the surprise that stole it for me. I have love at first sight for the combat. The worst surprises were Haven and Firewalk's games being CGI only and generic looking. Terrible way to introduce brand new games. Inspires zero confidence and tells me next to nothing about how fun the game will be.

@exoo you just proved my point genius. SM2 was already revealed a long time ago, we knew it was coming. That's why I said reveals. And with you just pointing out only SM2 means ~90-95% of the "showcase" was literally 3rd party. Not to mention even SM2 doesn't even have a release date after the showcase. And if you say that other PlayStation studios aren't ready then why even label this as a showcase and instead label it as an extended state of play for mostly 3rd party.

@exoo To me, Insomniac and Arrowhead were the only two with PS Studios games that were ready for today, as their trailers had gameplay and their games are indicated for 2023. Maybe Haven was somewhat ready with a cinematic trailer, but the trailer from Firewalk was nothing more than a teaser. So, in that regard, I don't think this presentation lived up to the prestige associated with the label "Showcase". Also, no first party love for VR!

2 months jeez I've been waiting a good 7-8 years for a remaster/remake. I've had a rough relationship with the series because it's so hard to get into man and once ur into it u want more BUT EITHER THERE ISNT MORE OR U CANT PLAY IT, such as mgs4. hopefully the remake is good

I bought mgs5 when it came out but I’m dog 💩at stealth games and dropped that too.. But 2 months ago I finished death stranding and needed more Kojima content. Bought a copy of mgs1 on ebay and got hooked. I jumped back into mgs5 to get better at stealth games with the more modern mechanics. I’ve been watching nothing but recap videos of the series lore. Paz got done dirty.

If you own a PS3, Legacy Collection is still a perfect way to play those games. You'd be missing out on a few (Ghost Babel, Portable Ops, etc.) but it's the most complete collection so far and every title in there runs better or the same as the original releases. It is dirt cheap in Japan too, I live in Turkey and I ordered my North American copy from Japan (sealed) at just around 30$ including tax and shipping and everything. PSN codes for downloadable content still works in those as well. Just saying, you don't need to wait. Have a 720p or a CRT, plug in your PS3 and enjoy. Most of those games don't look great in FHD anyway.

Finally someone with some common sense. People were looking at this like it was going to be the showcase to end all showcases, as if PlayStation hasn't released a fair amount of great exclusives just in the last couple of years (very much like Nintendo, although Nintendo is in a world of its own)

@zackmilder9504 the fact that we will be having FF16 shortly, Spiderman 2 in the fall and FF7 remake part 2 shortly after that is crazy, and people still act almost like the PlayStation brand is ruined after a lukewarm showcase.

I mean, I feel you, and ultimately, they’re not gonna show stuff until it is READY to show, but again, they also plied us with CG trailers for Haven, Firewalk, AND Bungie’s new games which gives me NOTHING to go off of (I thought for sure we’d AT LEAST maybe see Bend Studio’s new game since we’ve heard and seen ALMOST NOTHING from them since Days Gone released 4+ years ago). I also wonder if they just wanted to get this showcase “out the way” since they KNEW the expectations for their first one after 20+ months were going to be astronomical (not saying they purposefully set out to make it “bad” but hopefully you understand what I’m getting at) so the likelihood of meeting those expectations would’ve been NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE.

@@jaythomas468 yeah, meeting people's expectations for this show would have been impossible, but in my opinion that's mostly because people always create unrealistic expectations for events like this, regardless of the context. I do think they could have gone with just calling it a State of Play instead, but then people would complain because there's been too long since the last showcase, so impossible to win here. Bend clearly went through a rough time after Days gone, with several of the main guys leaving the studio, that probably delayed any work on a new game, so it's not that surprising to not seeing them here I think (although I'm curious to see what they're working on). The only one I found odd not being on the showcase was Factions.

They might be waiting to show some good stuff at summer games fest.

Unfortunately people won’t really know what’s going on in the backrgound, how long it actually takes to develop something to be ready and shown off to public without criticism. Development got tougher as budgets were higher and visions were greater because the current market feasts off AAA games that ‘sell’. They needed variety to fit all markets and continue to outline a strong relationship with others within the industry. I do however agree it was a little too far fetched for this to be a ‘big’ showcase whilst it was good there were many that were just teasers cgi or hardly informative We know Sony has some incredible studios but I think it’s just that after waiting 2 years expectations were already high.

I own a PS5 but gamepass is a great service, nothing of similar on PlayStation.

But do you remember the last showcase? It showed games like wolverine & KOTOR, games that didn’t have anything more than a short CGI trailer and people got hyped. Us as fans are not expecting big showcasing of games with 5 minutes of gameplay and breakdowns, just reveals. I do believe that people have a reason to be upset, it’s not that people want 50 AAA games with full length gameplays, just short announcement trailers to get excited for the next couple of years. If this is what the future of the PS5 is, count me out (and I’m sure im not the only one)

@carruthers100 Whenever they show a CGI trailer for a game that is gonna take 3 or 4 years to be released people start bitching that they shouldn't do that because they want to see some gameplay and they want a release date. It's better if they show games that are almost finished and are gonna be released soon then on the next show they can announce upcoming games that are close to be released and so on.

Those games will take a lot to be released so they are focusing and showing games that are close to be released. I'd much rather have that than having CGI trailers for games that are expected to be released in 2027 or something like that, like what's the point to announce games that are so far away? I'll get a PS5 regardless because it's a fact that Ghost of Tsushima 2, Factions, Naughty Dog's and Santa Monica's games, etc will be released and no other console offers me that not to mention that PS is the only one that has constantly released exclusive games year after year for so many years straight.

@exoo every one of these, no matter the company showcasing, is just filled with people expecting nothing but a dozen big blockbuster GOTY type games. The mass of people that watch these do not like variety, they don’t like uniqueness. They just want the game equivalent of a Jaws or Star Wars release.

They're definitely going to show something off there. Can't say I was interested in any of the games but that's because I'm growing old from gaming. My only interest right now are those 3 games personally, 2 story mode games with familiar characters, and a multiplayer game that is co-op story mode which I will always support if it's good enough

Sony takes pride in quality of their games over quantity, so while we got an astounding 2 years of ps5 exclusives, i dont think its the new norm, where every year we get 3-4 AAA games, especially since that was the beginning of PS5 life cycle. Thats my opinion though, I got used to Call of Dutys quantity over quality mentality after the last several years, So i really dont mind having to wait for games, As long as im confident and the devs are confident itll be high quality.
