I've been riding a 2016 rmk assault around Iowa, Wisconsin and Wyoming with a silber turbo on it running 3lbs of boost mostly on pump 93. I never geared it up so 85 is all it's run but 0-80 was pretty much insane. Got some bad gas and ate a piston at 1500 miles, which yeah isn't much but I'm honestly surprised it lasted that long. So obviously Polaris has much better engine protection now then back then so it should last awhile. I don't go out west anymore so I'm thinking about cutting the track down and regearing it and see how that works. Turbos are addictive 😁I have lynx rave for normal riding

How about making a video this season on riding responsibly on trails to include keeping your speed in check when meeting other riders. Slowing down and staying on your own side of the trail at corners. Seems strange that in this Motorsport (snowmobiling) we have to post signs to remind riders to keep to their own side of the trail and to stay on the trail when on private property.

129 is my favorite track length for a trail sled. It's just the right amount of traction in the back while still keeping the steering tight. I find 137 pushes in the corners too much, especially with studs.

The way I have fixed the 137 push in the corners is by adding a more aggressive carbide and shortening the limiter strap by 2 holes. If still pushing, try a better ski, SLP power pro. If no push and too heavy steering, put limiter strap to only 1 hole. It will take some testing to figure it out.

Id like to know how you can make that claim. I wont argue that a 2 stoke is as long term reliable as a 4 stroke. However, I know lots of people who would rather ride a light 2 stroke that will need service VS a heavy 4 stroke that will run forever. To each his own.

I'll take the 900R and not lose sleep over the thought of when will I need to rebuild the top end. Also have the option to tune it for a lot more power. Overall, I'll still take the real trail king of the lake, the 1200T lol. Great video btw!

I've always ridden an Mxz XRS except for this year, I'm on a 2023 Renegade Xrs 900r turbo. I was worried about the weight and handling after riding a buddies Sidewinder. I can tell you that those concerns are gone. I'm amazed at how little , if at all, I notice the weight. the sled turns well, feels light and flickable and has massive power, nothing like a sidewinder which felt very nose heavy. As far as the Polaris goes...time will tell. With shrinking market share and being plagued with recalls and quality issues, I'm surprised any one still buys them...but to each their own.

Yes. Two Stroke power. An 850 Turbo making "around" 185 HP is awesome. But its really the chassis development that's the "awesome" My 1993 Thundercat with Hooper Racing 1050 "trail" kit made "around" 200HP but the chassis was, well, 1993. On the lake it was incredibly fast, but compared to the modern chassis sleds today.Forget it. These sled company's could make a liter plus triple triple two stroke with a "warranty" 225HP that would annihilate any of the current two or four stroke Turbo sleds they make now. They would sell. When I heard that the turbo only gives an extra 10-20HP (~10%) I was disappointed. Sure it will be faster than NA but it seems like way less than anything explicitly branded "turbo" should make. I realize that the turbo was designed for the mountain sleds where the turbo helps maintain power at high altitudes. But as a result it seems to do very little for the trail sleds operating at lower altitudes and is only worth it for people who want the latest and greatest.

I think the big question with this will be answered years down the road: did it start the trend of 2 stroke turbo sleds- thus killing the winder market, or did it blow sky high at 3k miles and make manufacturers try to fit 4 strokers back in their hyper sleds. I'm hoping for the former.
@Dixie866
@Dixie866 Жыл бұрын
I think power is only one of the variables pushing people to turbo 4 strokes, long term reliability being the other. I don't think this will put any kind of dent in Sidewinder or even Skidoo 900R marketshare. Personal opinion of course
@guyincognito1431
@guyincognito1431 Жыл бұрын
@@Dixie866 I don't totally disagree with that viewpoint. I do however have to say that when I've compared my 4 stroke repairs to my 2 strokers I come up with some very similar numbers. I have a 800 ctec with 12,000 miles on it right now that is untouched. Wil it go the 100,00 miles that Mr Yamaha did on his Vector? no. But My viper at this point had a top end set and multiple remapping bills. I still very much have a foot in each camp (3 4 strokers and 5 2s) but when I look at things like my cold start issues, bringing battery packs, doing annoying oil changes, heavy front ends that wont come up in the deep stuff (in tight situations) and the extra cost to buy initially I think 2 strokes have made huge strides towards the disappearance of the 4s. All of my 4 strokers have had very early slider wear, skid rebuilds, and are hard on shocks. My ctec is almost as good on fuel as my fuel miser venture and no other sled I'[ve owed could do that. Even expenses that used to be worlds apart like my oil expenses for the year have had the gaps closed big time in the last few years. These 2's have become very impressive.

This is definitely the fastest 2 stroke lake runner out there. Although, I don't know about an answer to the 4 stroke turbo market on a lake. The guy that can re-flash their YamaCat in merely a few seconds to 250 HP on pump gas with no other modifications is still going to beat you down the lake. Just saying because I don't know anyone with a 998 Turbo that isn't at least 250HP.

@shperax
@shperax Жыл бұрын
@@pajamatime5750 Except there are very hard limitations on 2 stroke turbo. With a 4 stroke, you can throw as much boost at it until it explodes and kills you. This happens in top fuel drag cars quite a bit. With a 998 the safe race limits are just south of 340HP. A 2 stroke turbo is very limited because the exhaust port is always open when you're trying to cram in more boost and gas. After 8-10lbs of boost, you start seeing huge negative returns. It doesn't take long, and you would need a garden hose to supply the fuel, and you would start to ignite unburned fuel in your exhaust and melt your sled. The 850 boost is already 3 MPG if you're hard on the throttle. It's the main reason why no manufacture have done a 2 stroke turbo in all these years. Emissions re-burn technology had to catch up before the EPA would allow a 2 stroke turbo. I'm willing to bet unless they start putting valves in 2 strokes (WHICH THEY SHOULD, STIHL does this) you will never see a 2 stroke turbo put up numbers to compete with a 4 stroke.

Instead of telling everyone who is concerned about the continually rising price of new sleds that they aren't required to buy them, it would be nice if you acknowledged the concerns of those of us who don't want to put down new car money every year for a sled. Obviously for you guys an awesome and expensive new sled every year is great, but that's because you don't pay for your sleds. If this sport becomes something that only the wealthy can do, we may find there aren't enough riders to maintain a trail system, and/or to lobby against the tree huggers who are always campaigning against offroad motorized vehicles.
@snowtrax
@snowtrax Жыл бұрын
Soooo, we shouldn't report on sleds like this? Buddy, we make statements about pricing a lot. You should watch more of our videos and actually visit our website and read our content. Just so we are clear, not everyone can afford this sled, but lots of people can and have pre-ordered this sled. It is sold out everywhere. We also report on value sleds and feature vintage occasionally as well. Let's not judge our entire show based on one test ride you don't agree with.

@@snowtrax Let me apologize if my crappy morning carried over into my message, I should have waited before writing lol. I do watch a lot of your videos, but I don't go to your website very often. I love snowmobiling, and I love new snowmobiling tech. Because I love it so much I want many other people to be able to enjoy it as well. Already I have friends who are curious about it, but don't feel they can afford it. I would hate to see this sport become something that's just for the well-to-do. The more people we can get into snowmobiling, the more money there will be to support trail systems, and the more communities will cater to us in order to earn our recreational dollars. That's why I objected to what seemed a rather dismissive tone regarding people who either can't, or choose not to, pay for the newest and best sleds. I saw a couple of other comments of people who seemed to feel the same way. I hope this gets my point across in a more courteous manner. Cheers.
@Dixie866
@Dixie866 Жыл бұрын
I actually welcome the statement that this sled is not for everyone from a pricing standpoint, and I'm glad it's being said in a video like this. It's a niche "hypersled" that has a lot of bespoke parts on it. Look up what a turbo kit would cost for a naturally aspirated antyhing (car, sled, sxs... anything), now take that amount and add it to the cost of a non-turbo Matryx 850. The boost will look like a bargain in comparison.
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 Жыл бұрын
Your missing the point though. There ARE less expensive sleds that these "new riders" can afford and SHOULD buy. What your not understanding is that the very reason those cheaper sleds are SO good these days is because the technology they possess came from previously high dollar, hard to afford, top of the line sleds. Why do you think you can buy an SP in the matrix platform. The first year of the Matrix people complained about how expensive it was. Now, its affordable and everyone can enjoy all the benefits of that platform. If ALL sleds were "affordable" or at least MORE affordable for everyone, theyd all end up being the same. Instead we have the highest end, top of the line sleds that only a few can afford, we have middle of the road sleds that more people can afford and we have entry level sleds that most people can afford and... finally, we have really really great late model used sleds that new buyers can afford. We dont pay for our sleds, but everyone else I ride with does. My best friends all do. And, I dont just snowmobile. I have other sports and hobbies I pay to participate in. Im just like you in those cases and I totally get it. I have to work hard and save to afford the top of the line bicycle I ride. Im not mad about it. Because if I choose not to spend top dollar, there are plenty of great, lower cost options I can choose from.

Why Polaris can't get a sled suspension right for a 180-220lb rider is beyond me for a 16-20k $ sled. Polaris needs to get rid of Walker Evans shocks on snowcheck sleds.
