Mattel definitely can match quality if they wanted, they just actively choose not to because they know they can coast off of nostalgia. We’ve all been conditioned to accept mediocrity from them, for the same price point or higher

@@RachelRetro True. Also on further reflection I think the original colours work better for the setting. It actually feels like a mature restaurant that actual adults would go to. For that reason the excessive star theme in the new one also work against it. I like the that stairs have stars, but otherwise no. Like I love stars and I'd love a starthemed set, but it just didn't work for this when you compare it to how it could have looked. Vintage sets having one single type of plastic and having all the details in the same mold instead of how the new ones take a bunch of seperate plastics to make the details, also just worked better.

Oh, I totally agree with you on the old set feeling more mature. Older Polly Pocket sets in general felt more like a grown up setting. That was part of what made them so special, because it felt like a real life setting, shrunk down. Sets now have become much more childish. Of course, I fully realize these toys ARE for children. 😂 But I much prefer the more real life feel of the vintage sets.

I think the Royal Ball set must have been a bust overall, because it’s only $11 on Amazon now. 😂 Yes, the diversity in the newer sets is very nice! I’m definitely glad they made that change! 💕 I’d say that’s a good name for such a gross color. 😂 For sure a questionable choice they went with haha.

I honestly don’t know why I got it so quickly! My friend is still waiting on hers, but I’m fairly certain we ordered at the same time. It was on preorder at first and that’s when I ordered it. Then it went out of stock for a time. It’s back now, no longer a preorder, but says it won’t be delivered till June. I’m thinking they must have not had enough sets to keep up with the demand, so some of us just managed to get the ones they had on hand. Haha 💗 It’s funny because I thought I had tried earlier keepsake dolls (like from Starlight Castle) in new sets, and they wouldn’t work. Seemed like they just popped right off the pegs. 😂 I was traveling all day yesterday and didn’t get home till really late, but after seeing your message I had to try out one of the Starlight Dinner Party dolls in a new set… and yep! They fit on the pegs! That’s really cool. 😍 If they can’t go back and forth with vintage sets, at least they are usable in new ones. I wish I had thought to try it out for the video. 😩 It’s so hard to think of everything while filming, which is why I’m so glad for you guys, because you point out things I miss! 🥰💕💗

I was thinking more on what the next Keepsake set will be and I got to thinking… Fairylight Wonderland wasn’t in the original Keepsake Collection. 🤦‍♀️ So it wouldn’t make sense for it to be in the Keepsake remakes. It was part of the Fairy Fun Collection, which also got me thinking… Once they’ve done all the Keepsake sets, or at least all the ones they want to remake, I wonder if they’ll move on to other collections?? The Fairy Fun Collection would be amazing! All of those star compacts and sooo much glitter. 😍😍

The Starbright Dinner Party? Yes, mine is a little loose fitting as well. It doesn’t fall open on its own if tipped upside down or anything, but it doesn’t have a very strong “snap” when closed, like vintage sets do, if that makes sense. Someone else commented that theirs was loose and they sent it back for a replacement. It seems that maybe a lot of them might have this problem, just perhaps to varying degrees. I know some vintage compacts were very hard to open and a lot of them now have broken clasps. I wonder if they thought a loose closure was better, to prevent it from breaking when trying to open it. But it’s not much fun if a set can’t stay closed either.

Well now I want a Kirby compact playset. 😂

I think it depends on which sets you personally really want to be complete and which sets you’re happy with just having the playset. For some sets, I know I have a mental list of all the accessories it has to come with, or else I don’t want it. But then other sets, I don’t care if the playset is dented, dirty, and missing everything, I just want the playset itself. 😂 Buying an empty set, and then tracking down each individual accessory is generally going to be more costly than if you just bought the complete set to begin with. Individual pieces can sometimes be $15-20 (or more if it’s really rare), which is crazy expensive in my opinion, but people will pay it to complete sets sometimes, so sellers will charge it. Meanwhile, you could buy a whole playset for $15, if you don’t care to have it with accessories. In the end, it probably mostly comes down to budget and personal opinion. Some people love the hunt, so buying empty cases and then piecing it together over time is exciting, even if it might end up costing more in the end. Others like to pay all the money upfront to get a complete set right away. I’ve definitely spent a good chunk of money to get certain sets complete or near complete. But I can’t afford to do that with every set I have. I have to pick and choose which ones are the most important for me to have complete. 95% of the time, a good deal is more important to me. A big portion of my collection consists of empty, beat up sets, and I’m happy with that. 💗 If price isn’t an issue, then I of course say just go for it and buy every set complete! Or grab pieces to a set any time you happen to see them available. But if you’re trying to be frugal like most of us are, my advice would be to think about the sets you want, maybe make a list. Look online at them and decide which ones you absolutely want the accessories with, and which ones you’d be happy just to have the playset. Especially with the earlier sets, they came with only a doll or two, and you can easily snag a doll from another set to play in the empty set. You also get lucky sometimes and manage to get the exact doll you need for one set that’s been accidentally paired with a different set that you’re buying, so you can piece it together relatively cheaply that way. Later sets, that came with tons of accessories, are obviously going to be harder to find, both as a complete set or as individual pieces. A lot of people might not even know what certain pieces go to, so that makes it harder to even search for them online. When you’re dealing with a set that has a lot of pieces, buying it as complete as possible is probably your best bet. Otherwise your work will be cut out for you trying to find those tiny accessories on their own. I honestly could talk about Polly Pocket purchasing and prices all day long, so I really appreciate your question! 💕 Hopefully I didn’t ramble too much. 😂 I just really enjoy this topic! I think I am getting a thrill of the chase like just the 'find' of getting my hands on any vintage polly lol but you have a point about price and if its a polly I really am desiring. It is so much fun! 😍 I assume you already know, but just in case you don’t, onlypollypocket.com is the best resource for researching every set and seeing which pieces go with what. I’ve spent lots of time on there. Also, if you are just starting out, buying in bulk always saves money. $200 or so feels like a bunch of money to spend at once, but you get a lot of sets all at once that way and get a really good deal that way and end up saving money in the long run, if you know you would eventually buy all those sets anyway. I wish I had thought to buy lots earlier on, but I somehow didn’t realize I was collecting until I was already so far into it. 😂 By that point, buying lots would have meant getting a bunch of duplicates. But money can be made by buying groups of sets and then reselling individual ones, kind of helps pay for your collection. I’ve never gotten much into reselling though. I hope you’re able to find good deals on sets and pieces you’re wanting! Prices fluctuate a lot and you can get really lucky sometimes! I’m always keeping an eye out on Mercari and eBay and then being sad when I miss a good deal. 😂 But there’s usually always another one before too long. Part of the thrill! Happy Polly hunting! 🥰💕💕

I know they will benefit me😊 I can't find any bulk deals of pollys as I'm in Australia so they are not in circulation as much as you would find in the UK and States. Would you say pay $150 usd for a full set including all original dolls? Or is that highly recklessly expensive 😁 but I do love the set, however because I'm quite a novice still at appraising pollys I'm just googling there worth and how much they are going for to compare. Not sure if I should start off slow, but me I'm going for gold right to the expensive stuff😂 I really want to get quality pieces so I can give them to my potential daughter one day to play with as I used to play with pollys growing up. I love love the 90s nostalgia 🩷💛🩵💫

have definitely paid more than $150 for certain sets. 😂 Some sets you just aren’t going to find complete for less than that. Some can go for quite a bit more even. It just depends on the set, how much you have to spend, and how much it’s worth to you to have it. Obviously if it’s just a compact with two dolls, no one should be asking $150 for that and you should never pay that much for it. But if we’re talking about sets like the Jewel Magic Ball, or the Pollyville hospital, or the Fun Cruise…sets where there are lots and lots of pieces, then $150 is totally reasonable. In fact, it’d almost be a steal at that price for the sets I mentioned. 😂 Of course you could always get lucky some day and find it cheaper, but your chances of that are like winning the lottery. If you sort results of the complete set by sold listings on eBay, you’ll get a good idea of what it typically goes for, and then you’ll know if you’re getting a reasonable deal. I don’t know if you can really put a price on something you’re wanting to pass down to your future child, anyway. 🥰💕 Go big or go home, right? 😂💗
