What will you buy for 50 lakh? Fortuner or Kodiaq or an entry level German like X1/GLA/Q3?

Went out with budget of 55L, test drove Legender & Kodiaq with family, rejected Legender outright & brought home moonlight Kodiaq L&K. 20K into KMs still plasters a smile whenever it's driven. The creamy power delivery, ambience & refinement is of next level. It just feels lounge like.

As we are a family of only four and the Kodiaq is a feature loaded and premium car. So the Kodiaq is my choice any day

Kodiak also has panoramic Sun roof , paddle shifters , adaptive led and many more features

Fortuner is expensive only because of the VIPs & ministers using it often. Otherwise it should be around 30-40 lacs as per the features & quality it provides.

Kodiaq is a more sensible and practical choice. Now people will talk about “Fortuner is a proper SUV, can go offroad “ How many people buy a Fortuner for going offroad and towing around 10ton trailers? The Fortuner is presently quite overpriced for what it offers. Now if i could afford i would choose a Endeavour/Fortuner coz they will meet my requirements and are @buse friendly. But a Kodiaq is way better engineered than a Fortuner and definitely the better one of the two.

No regrets of buying the Fortuner(MT). My Dad doesn’t sell cars obce bought and keep it forever so reliability is a huge factor. Don’t buy if you want the premium feel, buy it if you want the old school feel and if you love to drive. Also diesel lovers will love the 1GD engine ;)

Things which go for the Kodiaq are interiors, performance, comfort, refinement, on-road manners and features. Things which go for the Fortuner are ruggedness, durability, after sales & Service, Road Presence and go-anywhere ability. Agreed that the Fortuner is bare-bone utilitarian. But I would never touch a 40L+ VWAG car with a 10 feet pole. Everything is fun and fine until something breaks and you will know the service advisor's name on a first name basis and have his number on speed dial. Couple that with the fact that this is CBU. Although I would prefer comfort, refinement and on-road manners in a car which costs 50L, I value peace of mind over these. When life gets busy, AS&S and durability plays a very important role. Just fill fuel / Ad Blue and drive the car until the next service and repeat. No-nonsense approach. Alternatively, one could consider the Camry in this Price range too. Toyota > VW/Skoda any day!

I own a Volkswagen and the maintenance of the car exceeded the actual cost of the vehicle years back. Now Škoda is an exotic version of Volkswagen and I can’t image the maintenance that charges that come along with buying a Kodiaq. So I’ll prefer the Fortuner over Kodiaq, especially considering it’s high resale value as well..

Test driven both in the same day. Fortuner is nothing in front of Kodiaq. So dam comfortable, amazing powee delivery and quality of ride and build. Kodiaq not meant for rough use. I will choose kodiaq anyday

Sir why don't you include AC performance in your tests?? The fortuner gets a bone chilling AC. TBH, I can sit comfortably when the temperature is cool. The comfort goes very low when you sweat even after paying 50 lakhs on road. German cars lack the AC performance required for Indian summers.

For reliability fortuner is best and for luxury feel Kodiak is best

I own a Kodiaq, comfortable city car...go with AMC, would help keep service costs down... Fortuner big bad boy for off-road and highways... ingress and egress difficult...bouncy and headroom is a problem..

Kodiaq is definitely a better option but fortuner.. The name itself gives me goosebumps. It's my dream car and within 2-3 years, I will own it. Fortuner has songs written over it sir! Meanwhile people don't even know that kodiaq exists.

Buying Fortuner was never about the features or 0-100 or something else, it's about the road presence people think it has, snob value always defeats function and that's why people will buy it even at 60 lakhs..

Simply go with Fortuner, because of High Resale value, road presence and true SUV vibes. These tech features come and go, but Mafia looks mafia only

The third row looked better on Kodiaq but not sure how you said Fortuner’s is better, Fortuner’s knee room looked worse than Kodiaq, headroom was less and the window was smaller. Even about interior durability. I sense some unconscious bias, I understand we attribute Toyota to “Reliability” but as a reviewer you must try to keep the biases and stereotypes away.

The summary is ......pay 15 lacs extra for EGO ... Reasle...but compromise on premium feel ...smoothness and comfort ... Tyota will never learn to give its customers a premium feel...

Fortuner asks for less maintenance costs whereas Kodiaq will burn the hole in your pocket. Fortuner is way more reliable than any other car.

Only thing is that a Toyota is much more reliable than a Skoda. For a reason Toyota is the best selling car company in the world. You don't need breakdown service for Fortuner. The car is a legend for a reason. In Europe as well, Toyotas sell in far more numbers compared to Skodas.

My Endeavour is seven years old. I love it, will keep it forever. But let's think on a new one to replace a SUV like that. Do that thinking experiment with me because it's infuriating. We have no option. Fortuner sucks, other options are not trully 4x4. The only replacement you have for Endeavour is either Jeep Wrangler or something even more expensive like the Defender. But let's come down to earth and keeping oneself grounded to a 50 lac budget what exactly can you buy coming from an Endeavour. Absolutely nothing, there better be some new options in the coming years.

If you want to spend your hard earned 50L I would suggest buying skoda. Just experience the german engineering once in your lifetime. You will not go for other brand after that. It's just my opinion

I am a Kodiaq L&K owner. fortuner is no match to the Kodiaq, let me say that why… I have owned and driven 2 generations of Scorpio and initially I was not confident about the ground clearance of Kodiaq, I got it clarified how Kodiaq handles off road conditions from Europe and Russian reviews in KZfaq. I took a test drive of Kodiaq on off road conditions in the outskirts of Bangalore. I found Kodiaq can handle the off road conditions without any issues same like my old Scorpios. Kodiaq has no body roll like you feel in the ladder on frame chassis and then I made up my mind to buy Kodiaq. Toyota on the other hand is not at all fair, look at the legender models in Cambodia, Thailand and Philippines there are different color options available, but in India it is only white, the grs model has nice alloy wheels in Philippines but in India grs the alloys looks very low end. Skoda offers the car models / versions same all over the world and does not differentiate in different countries, Skoda / VW R&D and built quality is not comparable to fortuner (eg., DSG Gear box, Canton audio system, DCC, large panoramic sun roof, luxurious seating, 7 coats of paint and many more to list). All 7 seats occupied and AC ON, Kodiaq gives me 12-13 kms per litre mileage on highway with XP95 petrol. Kodiaq is 900 times better than fortuner. Scorpio is far better and price worthy instead of over priced and not at all good fortuner, I felt it’s not worth paying ~54 lacs for the fortuner.

The way the fortuner brakes is terrible. Sorry but its definitely bad even when we drove it in various roads.
