I'm a "youtuber" who has converted my entire channel to center around Indian. I do happen to think they build, at the very least, an equivalent platform that ticks the boxes of being American made, good technology and gives you more for your dollar than Harley does. I think that while Indian does indeed have an uphill battle, Polaris is a far larger company and can supply the capital it takes to allow Indian to iterate their bikes and slowly take back some of the behemoth market share of HD. I've taken the risk and hope others do as well by making content surrounded by Indian and I do think that the KZfaq space is important to Indian/Polaris as most people researching their next bike head to YT to see reviews etc. I agree with your assessments in this video. My 2023 Indian Pursuit is a fantastic bike and my wife's 2023 Sport Chief is amazing....and we're basically converting it into a Super Chief (eqiv to Heritage). I think the Sport Chief can and will be a fantastic do it all bike with better suspension/brakes that can do medium to long rides properly equipped. Now if we can just get the aftermarket to take some chances and get 30-50% of the way towards what they do with Harley, you'll see more people take the Indian option more seriously.

I bought a 2022 Pursuit Limited in September of 2022 in Crimson and Maroon, like the one you showed. I had never owned a Harley in my life with over 50 years of riding. I've been a Suzuki rider for all of it. Finally, I decided it was time for a touring bike since I've retired. Mt trip to the Harley dealership was very bad. After asking what I was riding, the guy that I was dealing with bad mouthed my ride, and at that time, I turned around and left. After much research, I decided to go look at the Pursuit, and while I was there they asked what I was riding and there was no bad mouthing just interest then after sitting on the Pursuit I decided that was the bike for me. It was a huge step up from my 2003 Volusia 800 but well worth it. I'm outside of Baton Rouge, and I've only seen one Roadmaster in my area, but hopefully, there will be more coming, Indian makes a great bike.

Before I bought my brand new 2021 Indian Chieftain 116 Dark Horse, I looked at HD Street Glide, but it didn't handled as good as the Indian, didn't have the adjustable screen, more exclusive and here in England the Indian comes with a 5 year warranty as standard!

I know that there are probably some great dealers out there, but my local Indian dealer is definitely NOT one of them. Before I bought my current bike I was really interested in the Challenger. My local dealer is a powersports dealer with a much bigger emphasis on atvs, side by sides, and jet skis. I went to look at the Challenger and was completely ignored by the sales staff. They only had six new Indians total and after walking through the showroom and spending probably 15-20 minutes looking specifically in the Indian section, none of the staff ever spoke to me once. My Harley dealer is great, they have a huge selection of bikes and all the staff are friendly and everyone there speaks to you and asks to help you. I'm very happy with my dealer and my 2023 Street Glide Special.

Good point on it being algorithm driven. I've been happy with my 2019 Indian Springfield. One thing I miss about the old KZfaq before it became such a algorithm / business. So much more broadly interesting. Just because I watched a video on washer repair don't mean I want to be shown 50 appliance repair creators.

I 100% agree. I miss when it was more subscriber focused than it was algorithm focused. Only positive for me in this algorithm world is I feel I can make a video about anything I enjoy and if an algorithm favors that topic, it can introduce me to a bunch of new people. It’s kind of a double edged sword I guess but I do miss the old KZfaq.

Another problem Indian has is not having the network like HD. The closest dealer to me is 100 miles away and I had to drive even further to buy my Scout due to finding the model I wanted. I also did not even know much about Indian before stumbling upon them at a dealership by chance with a friend. I do not recall ever seeing a TV ad for Indian as well. People know the HD brand and relate to it as the top of the food chain in bikes.

I ride a 2015 Chief Vintage.My Harley riding friends hate my bike because when people check out my bike and ask about it and I am talking old and young folks look at it and then walk right past the Harleys.Then I here the same stuff "it's not a real Indian". Then the get on how many Harley dealerships there are vs.Indian.Now I have owned many Harleys in my time but my buddies seen to forget that and try to educate me on their bikes,I have to remind them of their short memories.I love my Chief it fast out of the box,you dont have to put hundreds of dollars into it to make it run fast well as fast as a cruiser can get.I find that die hard Harley riders don't even know about the various Indian models.I guess they think that if they ignore them they don't exist. I am 72 years old and have been riding since I was 16 so I have seen a lot of stuff.Iv'e seen riders come and go.Well I digress.

Funny thing is that some 2-3 years ago, HD was literally ´shitting´ on any private content creator and only after plethora of youtubers were invited to multiple demo events by Indian Motorcycle and were speaking good about them and have a good time there, voilá - Motor Company make them a call...and as they were/are still mostly HD riders, you than have content like for current CVOs, where they are all talking about them as if HD invented some kind of a space ship, while in fact they barely ( I´mean generally ) catch up with Challenger/Pursuit platform. Never mind, when Indian Motorcycle do its homework, they are ahead again - business as usual. What is not usual, is that this time, it could be even ahead of also BMW, Honda etc. Therefore this competition is EXTREMELY good for both brands, although each has different cards to play including youtubers...

Good video. I agree with your comments. I think Indian needs to significantly increase their dealer network. I'm currently in the market for a new bike, and am deciding between the HD Low rider S, and the Indian Sport Chief. Where I live, there are three HD dealers within 30-40 minute ride, while only one Indian dealer that is almost 2 hours away. It's not a deal breaker for me, and am still considering the Sport Chief, but for many others this may be a key factor in their decision.

Literally editing a video right now comparing the map of Indian vs Harley locations in the US. Very interesting since the last time I did it in 2019, Indian added 12, Harley closed 92 (+/- a few if I messed up in pulling data but don’t think I did). Still some gaps on middle America and some cities where Harley has a handful of dealers but very interesting to see.

A year ago, I made the best decision of my life by purchasing an Indian Scout Bobber. What sets Indian motorcycles apart for me is their rarity, encountering one outside is a distinctive experience, making it more unique. I prefer not to conform to popular trends and enjoy the exclusivity of riding an Indian. Any Indian motorcycle is a head-turner, providing an excellent riding experience that is truly worth your time. I've customized mine with a riser, a Saddlemen seat, and some Ohlin's shocks, and now it's absolutely perfect.

I originally started watching your channel when I was researching the Heritage. Your input helped me make a decision to purchase one. My experience with my first Heritage convinced me to purchase a second one a month ago when I was shopping for something lighter than the Road Glide Limited I was riding. You had a video out some time back where you created a dealership map for HD and Indian. My local dealer is a BMW/Indian/Triumph dealer and while I loved my GS 1250 Adventure my experience with them was less than great so I tend to shy away from them. Dealler network is a key for me. Until Indian addresses this by opening more dealers and monitoring what their dealers are doing they will never be in the same (sales) league with HD I don't think. Then again...what do I know I'm just a Harley guy. I will say that Indian's Challenger is likely a superior bike to the Road Glide from a performance and suspension point of view. Would I buy one...I won't say never but I would say probably not just due to looks alone. I've never been a big fan of the looks. I know, it's subjective but I'm honest. As for tech, HD is way behind Indian but they're making progress. Like you said...one bite at a time. Harley isn't famous for making fast bikes and their technology department moves just as fast. LOL. There's a million things Harley could improve to make the brand better. The way I feel when I'm riding mine isn't one of them.

You make some great points. What I will share with you is my own experience, as someone who rode mostly Harley baggers for the last 30 years. I do part time chauffeur rides in Melbourne Australia, and despite having twin fan oil coolers etc on my stripped 2009 Ultra Classic, I was burning up in summer heat and traffic in Melbourne, as were my passengers. When the liquid cooled Challenger came out I watched with great interest. 18 months later, I bought a brand new 21 Challenger Limited. Seriously, it's THE best bike I have owned, and I have ridden and owned many many makes of bikes over my 53 years of riding. What do I like? 1/ It RELISHES the heat-sounds crazy but I NEVER see the temp gauge over 215F! (try that on an M8 Harley). 2/ It handles superbly for such a big bike. 3/ The Fox mono shock suspension IS brilliant. EVERY customer I have had comments on how comfortable the bike was when the ride is finished. 4/ It has a VERY strong motor and crank, and with the liquid cooling should last a long time. 5/ It's different! Strongly recommend you try and get an extended ride. It's a BIG bike, but when you get acclimatised to the inverted forks, Brembo brakes, and great suspension you will realise how damn good this bike really is. Cheers.

@@GraemeBlore like I said probably a better bike. I think my main issue with Indian isn’t with Indian. It’s Polaris. I keep going back to the guy who bought a z victory on Friday and ride the heck out of it all weekend only to get an email on Monday telling them that Victory was out of business. I understand that it was a business decision, but phasing them out would have left a better feeling for me as opposed to just the abandonment policy they adopted. 120 years straight. Hard to beat that record. I test rode one of the Indian bike…the one with the “batwing” style fairing that had been hopped up. It hauled “you know what”. The performance was impressive. I tell people if they’re looking for a fast bike they’re in the wrong dealership. For what I paid for my Limited I could have bought 4 600cc sport bikes that would run circles around it. Luckily for me I’ve always been slow. Now I’m old and slow. LOL

@@hcamardelle, fair enough, although Harley wasn't Harley during the 70's. It was AMF. Just saying. For me 120 years is irrelevant too if the manufacturer becomes lazy, which is exactly what I reckon happened to HD, till Indian put a rocket up them with the Challenger. Good for all of us to have healthy competition. We get better quality bikes and THAT'S what counts imo.

The Honda is amazing but the Indian gave me back a clutch and that visceral experiance I was looking for. It's a great product and I shall be sticking with Indian going forward if they keep down this road. I live close to Hartford Connecticut and have three dealers within 80 miles and the closest is just 35 miles from me so I lucked out. I went initially to Harley and test rode the Street Glide Special. They wanted 39845 bucks for it though and it was a Cow to get it into Neutral. Another point to make is the aftermarket support and how that affects the algorithm: Harley has a seemingly endless amount of aftermarket parts that people can customize with and make their bikes any style or theme they want. And people genuinely like to watch other people customize their bikes and watch informatively on how to install parts, I hope with all the positive reviews of Indian, as mentioned in the video, the demand for the aftermarket Indian parts drives to compete with HD.

When it came time to buy my bike, the sport chief just released. I went to the only Indian dealership near me and wasn’t even allowed to sit on the bike. I was the only customer there. I Walked out, went to a Harley dealership and literally sat on every bike, was served lunch, talked with other riders that stopped by, got a tour of the service dept and ultimately got a brand new FXLRS. I’ve been on rides with the guy that sold me the bike. Ain’t no way Indian holds a candle to that type of customer service. Indian did more to sell me on a Harley than the HD dealership staff.

I am 100000% positive that even the best dealerships in the country have a customer or two who have left completely pissed off for a myriad of reasons. Your one interaction with that dealer on that day is hardly a reflection on the brand no more than a Harley dealer who treats a customer like they aren’t a serious buyer. I can assure you that local dealer lets people sit on bikes otherwise they would sell zero bikes and not be in business. There is more to that story. Either you had a bad salesman, there was a safety concern, or maybe the bike you were trying to sit on was sold. There is more to this story than “Indian dealers don’t let you sit on bikes”

Nice video. You are clearly impressed wit h the Indian's you have ridden. They are definitely great bikes on paper -- I have never ridden one. Funny enough, one of my riding buddies and I were just discussing yesterday that there is no Indian dealership in Los Angeles, and we can't figure out why? Indian, if you are listening, reach out to me and let's talk about it!

There is Indian Motorcycle of Orange County 30 miles south of LA and Riverside Indian in Corona. I think LA is particularly spoiled by the absurdity of the bakers dozen of Harley dealers in the area which I think is absurdly over saturated but very interesting hearing from someone in that area.

@@GearsGadgets we do have a number of Harley dealers in/around LA. Keep in mind, though, that LA county is massive -- over 4700 square miles! From my house to Corona is 70 miles. On a good day, that's an hour and a half away in some of the worst traffic in the country. I can't imagine buying a bike that I would have to take so far away for service. No idea why no one has opened an Indian dealership here, or why Indian doesn't open a factory owned one. We need it!

@TheJedRides If you get the chance, both the OC and Corona locations are worth the visit. I've been shopping and comparing the Chieftain and the Street Glide. What I can't abide is that my local HD dealers added markups on bikes. I found the Street Glide that I wanted at a local dealer here in OC, but they wanted EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS more in dealer markup on top of the usual shipping, prep, theft or whatever fees. That put my "dream bike" ten grand over MSRP and that didn't include tax and license. You can't negotiate a good deal when you're starting behind such a large negative equity. You are on to a good idea with Polaris owned dealers. Without going into the negatives, the pros would be that there's 25 Polaris deales between LA and San Diego and only Six Indian dealers between OC and San Diego. Now if they only made a white Chieftain Limited.....

I think if Indian could adjust their price point a bit , that would help. A lot of the mindset may be “If I have to spend that much money, I might as well buy a Harley.” Not a dig at Indian either . Sounds like they’re putting out a very solid product . Shoutout to your uncle 😂

See that's what I don't get about the American cruiser rider mind set. Indians, as a rule, have superior engines, superior transmissions, superior electrics/tech, and superior suspension. So, if I were making the choice between the 2 at the same price point? I'm taking the Indian 10 times out of 10. What does the HD offer? Paint?

Just to let people know that a friend recently purchased a scout bobber 1.5 weeks ago brand new and has lost acceleration engine light on. It turns on no problem mechanically it’s wonderful but no throttle. Under warranty of course. Dealership will Pug in & see. Not discouraging just a little annoying for my friend. Understandably electronics can go haywire. At the moment my friend’s bobber & another are the only 2 silver type colours available in Australia. Forgot the exact paint colour name. Apparently 2 of a kind at the moment available in Australia.

Indian needs to also flood the market with their bikes so more people see more of them on the road thus adding to trust in the brand. Bottom line is Harley is generally cheaper and has way more of a cult like following than Indian.

Nonsense on the algorithm. Purchasers will actively type in "Indian" (or whatever brand) when they want to research a bike to buy and they will see all the Indian content they want.
@GearsGadgets
@GearsGadgets 2 ай бұрын
That is true for purchasers but untrue for where the overwhelming majority of KZfaq views come from which is the “recommended” on the home page. Algorithm gaming is the modern SEO conversations from a decade ago to make sure your website was higher than others when someone googled “Motorcycles” Side note, it’s increasingly becoming untrue for even specific search terms as the algorithm is “suggesting” content that is merely loosely affiliated with what you searched. You might have to scroll down 5-10 videos before you see what you specifically searched.

Fortunately I already have my 2018 Heritage which I love but I bought before I ever considered looking at an Indian. I know more today than I knew then. At what point are you just getting your panties in a bunch over publicly traded corporate marketing strategies?
