The pandemic ruined many many thing, the sports card hobby was definitely one of them. I've stopped buying cards about a year and a half ago. I just can't bring myself to drop 40 bucks for a blaster or 130 for a regular box and getting one auto. Or a manufactured mem card, what kind of bullshit is that? Or some numbered card. The hobby is in shambles.

Here's the issue with the hobby outside of the insanely high box prices (breakers and influencers too!) You get two HOFers in Smoltz and Maddux and you were barely excited. Maybe it had to do with janky box return for $2k, I get it, but everyone is chasing players that don't even have a hit in MLB - just because someone is a rookie doesn't mean a thing, give me the proven HOFer or superstar any day (but not for $2k). If you were Layton, you would've pulled a chase card. They give the loaded boxes to the mainstream breakers.

For $2000 you could have bought PSA gradede10's of all those cards, including the numbered ones and have plenty of $$$ left over. They stick a cheap gold painted frame around a Smoltz patch and want you believe it a hit. IT'S NOT! You can find them all day for $20. The card it's packaged in is irrelevant. Reasonable collectors never buy new. Only gamblers doo! Because of the pathology that it is, they can't stop.

Why does every pack ripping or unboxing channel I watch do people not know how to pronounce names? You completely botched vinnie pasqauntino's name as youve clearly never heard of him or ever his name said. Then Adrian Beltran? You guys that do this, are you even baseball fans? Hate to jump on the bandwagon here, but I have been watching breaks of all sorts - mostly baseball lately. I came back to the hobby a couple months ago and did the proverbial "Buy in haste, repent in leisure." Not that I have caught up with the current trends in the hobby and certainly haven't caught up with which products really sell and maybe most importantly why. Anyway, I watched a break of this product on another channel and within reason the fella pulled arguably the single best card from the entire product - Bryce Harper, Mike Trout Dual Logoman 1/1. That card is currently listed on eBay for $10K. My point? This is lunacy yeah? Never mind that I've spent a small fortune, not spent the amount of time on a new endeavor in years like I have with the sports cards (so that's a good thing iykwim?). Even at $1,000 or $800 for this product it is lunacy, And it;s not just this one, and it's not just bseball, and so on,,,,it's whack. The "live breaks" where companies - real companies - sell spots and all this mumbo jumbo is criminal - literally criminal. Ironically I haven't even watched the stream yet but was drawn here precisely becasue of the title so let's see what happened. Hopefully Panini will drop out of the hobby altogether. And Topps will hopefully bring some sanity - though if they don't the market certainly will. The social media aspect is driven (mostly) by hucksters, fraudsters, and what were decent businessmen (Jaspy's, Layton, etc...) who are now simply put are whores. Can't wait for the market to crash,Can't wait for the literal dumpster fires that will remove 99.99% of the product out there. This is not a hobby. This is a scandalous breach of humanity. All of which has not prevented me from spending a small fortune, enjoying myself becasue I have an activity. I am not a soap box preacher, but this has got to stop. Getting 18-35 year olds spending mortgage payments, and car payments and the kids future tuitions chasing JUNK is not good for society. Could say it's better than hookers and crack but I'm not so sure that is tureare the $1k Addendum: watched the vid; so the Harper/Trout Logoman 1/1 is hardly the holy grail. As you noted there is n Ohtani/Ruth which yeah that is a pretty bitchen notion. STILL even if it fetches 1M - and it wont - that's the cost of 500 boxes and print run is what probably 10,000 boxes or more. It doesn't make sense. Truthfully worse yet are these $500 to $1k boxes where ya get like 100 cards from 10 packs, 95 cards are literally throw away and the 5 cards unless one hits something insanely big is at best $100. You can get $750+ back on that box, butfIf you wanna go big BIG for the return, you have to buy a case. Buying random boxes is like buying a lottery ticket.

Most of these boxes don’t come close to break even if try to resell. Even the one and only ever 2019 Definitive I bought for $1100. I am done collecting. Too expensive and too much product to keep track of. At least I can still watch what others pull.

I bought Topps Gilded FRAMED singles in the past month - Schmidt /10 for $75. Bo for $40. J-Roll /50 for $35. Yount /50 for $25. That's $175 for four framed Gilded autos. The boxes are $600. I just don't get the high end. Yet, I opened a case of Topps Archives and literally nearly doubled my money after selling the autographs and short prints raw and then selling the rest back to my local shop. I stick with low-mid. Chrome is the biggest ripoff.

The cost of these cards are INSANE!!! The prices are going to kill the love of collecting as bad as the high cost of Grading of cards in the early 2000’s! I bought several packs of cards from the $.99 store here in Charleston, S.C. back in 2017. JUST OUT of 2 Packs, I got 2 different Rookie cards of Patrick Mahomes. Now, I can’t find any more cards there. I’m seeing $200+ boxes of cards that I was able to buy for $12 before the frenzy. It’s getting out of hand again.

My problem with high end for the 1k or more for a box that they don’t come up with something more creative then auto or relic or a patch.

Really sick cards though. What'd you get for selling them all? $500? No shame in it. It's always a long shot, but props from trying.

It's all rigged, average people, with average product outlets, can't get good product. There are many ways all this high-end product gets searched before the average guy gets a look at it, it is not worth buying. Sorry, I feel it too, even on the cheaper stuff. Peace

I've thought of buying something like this but i think if there is something i love in the set and just have to have it would be better to just buy those one or two cards individually rather than risk getting a box that doesn't live up to the hype. Never dome of a box of these high end items as they are more misses than hits in a box. With $2k, u might as well buy a $2k repack or $2k worth of repack breaks. Another product is Flawless, NT and Immaculate which are with $10k or more a box especially if it’s an unopened 2020 Flawless Football with the big rookie QB’s.

These are actually awesome collector cards. The problem is what you had to pay for them. They sell these just like lottery tickets people hoping to hit it big when the reality is you just lose money.
