bought the bike in the blue and pink color 3 months ago and the first thing I did was to lower the stem and swap the handlebars for a zipp one with less reach. Amazing bike since!

I just bought the ALR as a frameset. Building it up with all the upgraded components in the size I like. I'm putting on carbon wheelset and GP5000 tires. Putting on a 105 Di2 groupset with gears that I like and most important a crank length that is appropriate. One thing Trek seems to do is put on cranks that are quite long, if they do not fit you it's very costly to change the crankset. All in all, buying the frame and building up the bike perfectly fitted for you with components you spec out, for pretty well the same price, maybe a little more, I think that is the way to go!! Nice vid though. You described the Emonda ALR very well, thanks.

Which wheelset did you decide on?

@@marcint001 Wheelset is 35mm deep Woven wheelset (carbon). Handmade here in my home town of Ottawa. It's a small company but quite popular in the area. I've had them on my Trek Crossrip for a year now and they are fantastic. Actually one reason I'm building up a new bike is to fully take advantage of that wheelset which my current bike kinda falls short of. But, that shortfall made me realize I need to jump up to a better frame. I tried to liven up my existing bike, but you know what they say...... it doesn't matter how much lipstick you put on a pig....... it's still a pig😊

I purchased this bike in the azure blue and coral. I've received all kinds of compliments. I love this bike. It hands nice, though a little twitchy due to the short wheelbase. It's a joy to ride.

Yes , wheelsets that come stock on most brands are a throwaway.

My bike is the Domane so it’s a different line. This one is a slightly higher grade of aluminum so I’m sure it’s a bit lighter. Not too sure about real aerodynamic numbers but I’d guess it’s probably faster

Amazing review! How does thie compare to the Canyon Endurace AL 7, with the price difference I could put a nice set of wheels on the canyon.

I would have to compare geometries. I believe the canyon has a much shorter reach. The trek does have some nice cable management which plays a part in the looks. Looks become important too

Hi Mike! will it possible to use emonda's headset bearing on your domane al3? I also have domane al3 and I'm wondering if I could hide the cables using emonda's headset. tia

Good question. I don’t know for sure but my guess is that even if the bearings did fit, I doubt there would be enough space inside the frame to fit all those cables. Not too mention. There’s space to feed them in around the stem. You would need a stem that is compatible. Not sure it would work.

My current bike is a Giant Revolt 0 gravel bike that I use as an all-rounder. I'm thinking of adding the Trek Émonda ALR 5. For 40+ km road rides do you think I'll notice a enough of a difference between these two bikes to be worth $2700?

That’s hard to answer. I think the frame with the right wheels would be worth it for sure. Not sure how much of a difference you’d notice buying the bike as it is.

@@AllThingsSportsMikeMcIntyre I’m finding it hard to answer as well! But from what I’ve read and watched wheels should be one of your first upgrades for this bike. At this point, I just think I’m looking for a dedicated road bike that can stick with me for years and use my gravel bike for what is intended for. Thanks for the advice, Take care.

By that description the Emonda is a great choice and with a wheel upgrade you’ll have yourself a very fast road bike

If this bike is the ALR 5 with the mechanical 105 - It costs $3118CAD where im from which makes it less appealing seeing as you can pick up a really good carbon alternative the same money. $3118 sounds crazy but its about right as we have to pay a 20% VAT which absolutely kills us on big purchases. $3118 and it doesnt even come with carbon wheels or a mid-range DT Swiss wheelset. Im probably going to be paying another $1300 for a lighter wheelset anyway. Other than that. I do wish these bikes came in more colours. Im a sucker for a white and black combination. Prices are so much higher than they were when i last bought a bike in 2016/17

Emonda ARL 6 is the way to go. Available with Shimano 105 Di2.
